theoretical question
i have heard some stories from some people who claim to have been able to
set up a partition in linux and install win98 via wine and then having it
fire up. i know wine isnt designed for this purpose but apparantly it has
been done....who knows, maybe someone is pulling my leg.
i'm just wondering if there is anyone out there who has pulled this off and
if so how did they go about doing it. i

Want to help Wine project?
This message is for those who wants to help Wine
project but do not know where to start.
We need contributors of a wide range of skills.
The minimal requirements are:
access to a computer with Linux (or other Unix-like
system) where you can use Wine.
We have a lot of tasks which are relatively easy to
do.
The fact that these tasks are easy does not mean they
are not important.

window behavior
Hello people,
I'm trying to run a cobol application under wine and I'm getting several
problems with forms windows. Some forms windows in my app are appearing
larger than the screen size (800x600) but the wm don't let me resize
then to see all the form. I already try setting the font size to a
smaller size but windows still get larger than the screen. I also tried
changing from GNOME

windows or no windows?
I'd like to have a couple of windows app working in linux without
rebooting (visual basic and JMP). I downloaded codeweavers wine but I
have a question about windows partition or no windows partition... My
present system is not dual boot. So ideally I'd like to run wine without
a "real" windows partition. However, I have heard that wine works better
with a "real"

seeking advice on network troubleshooting strategy
Greetings. The application I am trying to get to work under wine
(Cinema4D network rendering client) works nearly OK. Just one crucial
bit it fails, very unspectacularly and silently, to do.
What it's supposed to do: receiving 3d scenes from a server, rendering
those, and sending them back - this all works just as under windows,
except for the sending back of files. About the only indication

Wine and XP
I have Wine working, and my Windows XP-installation mounted
as read only. Reading the FAQ, I noticed: "DON'T configure Wine
to use an NT-based Windows install (NT, Win2K, WinXP)."
So... is it futile to try to get XP-applications running on my
Linux-box? Should I install them from Wine, and if so, how?
"wine SETUP.EXE"?
I'm mostly interested in running Instant Messanger

CAD on wine - some almost useable, others not at all...

I can't help. But have you looked at qcad? It's a CAD app that runs on
Linux. You can find it at www.qcad.org.

True Windows Partition?
I've downloaded codeweavers-wine-20011108, and installed it on a Red Hat 6.1
linux box.
It won't launch any programs, however, and returns an error message that
says it needs a "true Windows partition mounted under Linux" or an "empty
Windows directory".
Does this mean I need to repartition the hard drive?
Thanks, again,
Roy

which Native DLL's
Hello All,
could someone please tell me which Native DLL's I should use with Wine?
should they be Windows 95,98,NT, or 2000?
I think that part of my problem in the past has been that I have had a mixture and thus I think that this would cause a problem in some of my applications.
I have been trying to get an SDL application to run but I have not had luck so far.
Cheers,
Lonnie

Really basic question about compiling WINE
I am an intermediate Linux user. I dual boot into Redhat 7.3 and
Windows ME. It would be nice to be able to run the stuff in Windows from
Linux (for 2 reasons: to avoid booting and rebooting, and trying to get
away from Windows altogether someday), so I am now learning WINE.
I see a bunch of postings on this list about compiling. Question: Would
I expect to compile, as opposed to just running

TrueType fonts, 3d modellers and wine
Hello,
Many 3d modellers can use TrueType fonts to create 3D objects of words.
Lightwave and Behemont are two that spring to mind. I can't find any on
linux.
However, both lightwave and behemont give me the error:

This is after the font has been correctly displayed in a "font

More than 4 serial ports with wine.

Is it possible to run wine with more than 4 serial ports? Looking through
the source I seem to see a hard limit of MAX_PORTS=9, I would like
something more on the order of 36 serial ports. I need to run multiple
apps with a multi-port serial board, and I am hoping to do it though wine.
When I try to set a com port of COM6 in my .wine/config file I get

I'm trying to install Baldur's Gate II on a windowsless Wine

cups printing quicken I guess wine-bugs is dead.
Hello wine people, this is my first posting here. I am using the gimp
printing ppd, cups and lpr on a hpdj842c. Wine release 20011226. On
Debian woody with 2.4.17. Everything rocks so far except whenever i try
to print wine freaks out and dies. Crossover is using Wine release 20010629.
I have tried printing in linux and it works fine.
I also have crossover installed (I actually paid for it).
