Apparently it seems to work but when I try to open a file to
convert it, TMPGEnc opens a popup telling that it cannot open the file
or the format is unsupported.
Since I'm trying to convert a sample file that TMPGEnc reads regularly
on a win box it seems that it can't open the file.
So I enabled dubugmsg for file and dosfs with the following command line:

Close without saving crash apps
In all Office 97 applications if I try to quit the application after modifying a file, wine crashes without showing the expected "save the file before quiting?" dialog. It seems that the dialog itself causes the crash.
The only error message that I got in cosole is:
XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporally unavailable) on X server ":0.0"

[OT] (newbie alert) - home DV video and Premiere?

Not as such, no. I think what you're looking for, for your purposes, is an
ACM codec, to produce Vorbis data wrapped in a RIFF-WAV header. For use in
WAV and AVI and the like.
I did come across such a beast a while back, but I think it had trouble
recognizing/decoding RC2-encoded data.

wine serial support
Hi,
I use wine to run a terminal emulator (NetTerm).
It connects to a Linux Server (it was meant to run from windows) that runs a commerce software.
This Linux commerce software sends the terminal emulator escape codes to interface with a
"ticket" printer attached to a serial port.
The reason to go thru all this problem is that the printer has a proprietary, closed source driver

2.5.1p1/p2 PermitRootLogin broke (Solaris)
I updated my Solaris 8 machines from openssh-2.3.0p1 to 2.5.1p1 yesterday and
it fixed the cron/audit issue but now root logins are no longer permitted. I
updated it to 2.5.1p2 this morning and that is still the case:

[PATCH] nv50: enable MPEG-4 for NVA3+ (VP4.0)
From: Martin Peres <martin.peres at labri.fr>
This patch is a follow-up from Ilia Mirkin's enable H.264 patch which
solves the problem that prevented MPEG-4 videos to play correctly.
Tested on an nva3.

gratuit mpeg-4 content stream licensing
Obviously not official, but I came across the following article about
Apple's release of QuickTime 6. http://news.com.com/2100-1023-943990.html

Review of Mpeg-4 & on2's vp3...
The site:
http://www.techimo.com/articles/index.pl?photo=33&SID=12&tag=SNnb323
has a review & comparison of several mpeg-4 codecs, and they also
include vp3. (Be warned, it's a very big web page, due to all of the
image examples!)
Not really all that informative, but I thought somebody might be
interested in hearing about it.

Bit peeling(?) used in MPEG-2/SVCD Nero plugin?
Not vorbis-related, just I think I found a similar technique being used...
The description of the MPEG-2/SVCD plugin on the nero site says that it
can encode exacty to the size of the CD (to maximize quality given a size
restriction). It also says (in a separate point) that it uses two-pass
VBR compression.

libshout: Streaming MPEG Audio Layer 2
Hi,
I have been trying to stream MPEG Audio Layer 2 using libshout in my
dvbshout program:
http://www.ecs.soton.ac.uk/~njh/dvbshout/
However I have been using the shout_send_raw() API call because the
MPEG audio header parser rejects audio that isn't Layer 3. Streaming
layer 2 works in exactly the same way as Layer 3 and without any
problems.
Would it be possible to get src/mp3.c

By analogy OOXML is called an open standard too. Still there are
apparently significant IPR risks involved.
I wrote solid IPR evaluation for a reason.
