user.dll problems
Hi, I'm having problems getting Half-Life to setup using Wine. I have RedHat Linux Roswell, and no windows files. I used the autosetup utility to install Wine and it seemed to work. After fixing my wine config I went to run a windows app. When I run the setup.exe file I get this message: err:module:BUILTIN_LoadModule loaded .so but dll user.dll still not found Could not load

Logitech Wingman Formula detected but does not work
Hi everybody, I'm trying to run Grand Prix Legends with Wine. (codeweavers-wine-20020904-7.i386.rpm) Now I can start the game, but when I want to do the steering-setup within the game, the wheel does not work. The log gives the following: [frank@hal9000 gpl]$ wine --debugmsg +joystick c:\\sierra\\gpl\\gpl.exe fixme:cdrom:CDROM_GetIdeInterface CD-ROM device with major ID 11 not supported

apply a function to several lists' components
Dear R-user I have 100 lists. Each list has several components. For example, >data1 $a [1] 1 2 $b [1] 3 4 $c [1] 5 There are data1, data2,...., data100. All lists have the same number and the same name of components. Is there any function I can use for applying to only a specific component across 100 lists? (e.g., taking mean of $c acorss 100 lists) or do I need to write my own

getting closer to run homesite4.5
Thanks to Dimitry's tip I'm getting closer to run Allair's Homesite4.5 but I reached a point where I don't know how to debug the remaining problem(s). I used to get a runtime error, but with getting native stdole32.tlb this doesn't appear any more. Now I have 2 scenarios: 1.) starting with native comctl32.dll (and commctrl.dll) - the small centeres window appears (with

Could not load 'USER.DLL' (RH7.2)
I find that I can't run 16-bit apps because of a problem with user.dll. Here is an example. [john]$ wine /mnt/C/Win31/cardfile.exe err:module:BUILTIN_LoadModule loaded .so but dll user.dll still not found Could not load 'USER.DLL' required by 'CARDFILE', error=2 Terminated A 32-bit app (such as notepad.exe) does work though, other than some minor issues related to fonts. Re: Red Alert / Red Alert II / Tiberium Sun: Overriding wsock32.
Using posix file capabilties you can give wine only root permissions for creating raw sockets. A lot of distributions are doing something similar these days for ping which also required complete root permissions before.

Re: Red Alert / Red Alert II / Tiberium Sun: Overriding wsock32.
When I worked on Wine's ipx code for Red Alert and friends posix file capabilities weren't around yet. I haven't used them yet. You can find info about it on http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/library/l-posixcap.html I think that you need to set the property on wineserver.

Full screen and virtual desktop
Hi, I'm currently playing Outcast with Wine. As this game runs in a very low resolution (512x384), I need to play in full screen mode. Besides, I also need to kill the game when exiting since I can't skip credits (bug 13757 <http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13757>).Therefore, I use a virtual desktop to avoid resolution problems when killing Wine. So my question is : if I

red wines & tannin
I find that certain red wines(and only particular wines) cause me to have headaches. I suspect this is because they contain more tannin than other reds. How do I know about the tannin content when I buy a bottle? Do wred wines from certain areas have more tannin than from other areas? Or is it merely a trial & error process? thanks, Howard Richler

Red Alert / Red Alert II / Tiberium Sun: Overriding wsock32.dll to avoid IPX
Background: Red Alert / Red Alert II / C&C / Tiberium Sun uses IPX for LAN play. According to AppDB, this works, at least for Red Alert II (Orginal RA is not on the first page of Google results...), but it requires Wine to be run as root. Since I do not have IPX installed and I'm not normally in a mood to recompile my kernel, and the Windows users that I want to play against do want to

Mouse crazy on Full screen app + Tablet PC
Hi, I don't really expect this to get fixed but I have an issue and I was hoping someone would be able to at least diagnose it. I have a X41T Thinkpad. It is a tablet pc and when I have a full screen app (i.e. game) open the digitizer pen goes nuts. The cursor tries to go off the screen. Holding it perfectly still will cause the mouse to glide slowly across the screen while moving it

[CoD:Black Ops] - Using STEAM, Keyboard Not Work In Full Screen?
[CoD:Black Ops] - Using STEAM, Keyboard Not Work In Full Screen? Hi, I can't run Black Ops in full screen under current Wine. I'm using Valve's Steam client which is the issue. I have to log into Steam client to play the game. After I run game, Steam steals the keyboard focus and I am stuck in the game (full screen) with no exit? (have to reset my computer to get out of it)

Red Alert 2: Mouse Problems
I've just tried to launch RA2 using wine, with great success: it ran perfectly and fast at the first try. However, the mouse is screwing around. If I run as root, everything works fine, but the mouse pointer is invisible. I can move it around and control the game blindly, but that isn't really fun. If I run as a user, the mouse pointer is there, but RA2 doesn't recognize the mouse

Re: C&C Red Alert 3 - Lan (and also hamachi) play
You can try this, or check multiple solutions on the bug report URL I posted here. Lan play seems to be different from online play and you might have luck. With hamachi, however, no matter what I do it'll always fail.

Red Alert under WINE
I've heard a lot of people talk about being able to run Red Alert under Wine, but I don't seem to be able to do it. I have installed red alert to /windows/D/wine/games/redalert using # wine -winver win95 /cdrom/setup.exe This then runs through the installer OK, but when I try to start RA using: # cd /windows/D/wine/games/redalert # wine -winver win95 ra.exe After a short time, the
