DirectX problems
Hi,
Maybe you've talked about this many times before, but i've got a problem with
DirectX.
When i try to run any application that uses DirectX it just tells me that i
don't have it installed on my system. The fact is that i do have it
installed, and works fine in Windows ME, maybe the version is too recent? i'm
using DirectX 7.
My system is:

Two different windows configurations
Hi,
i have compiled winex from source, and i also have windows 98 with directx
8.0 running in my computer.
I would like wine not to use my real windows 98 configuration, but a new one,
with its own libraries, this is because i know i should not try to emulate
real Directx.
I think wine can create a fake windows directory which contains all the
libraries, but don't know how to create it.

Request for moderation: mailing lists winehq
Hello all,
we're seeking people that could do our mailing list moderation, since
we're getting about 15 to 20 spam bounces per day on our mailing lists
(wine-announce, wine-bugs, wine-cvs, wine-devel, wine-patches, wine-users).
Needless to say this amount has increased since we started doing it.
Currently Ove Kaaven and me do the moderation stuff for all the mails
that bounced due to the

Emulation vs Virtualization
Would someone please explain in simple english what the functional
differences are between emulation & virtualization are as far as being able
to run Windows applications under Unix / Linux in a "real world" (ie
commercial office) environment ??
For what its worth I'd prefer to use an open source unix (FreeBSD / OpenBSD)
rather than linux, however there are other issues

Tale of kernel 2.2.19 upgrading
I'm a bit of newbie to Wine in many respects so this may be obvious to more
seasoned Wine veterans, in which case I apologize.
I rely on Wine to run Lotus Notes on Linux - this project has released me from
my NT workstation :-) So after a kernel upgrade from 2.2.17-21mdk (as supplied
with Mandrake 7.2) to an unpatched 2.2.19 about the first thing I tried was
Lotus Notes on Wine. Parts of it

WinME
Hi,
Is there any way to run win32 applications emulating winME.
I'm talking about the ie6 setup tool. (I can't connect to the internet under
windows).
I'm running wine-010623-stripped from daily wine and am using glibc 2.1.3
on a Redhat 6.2 system.
Cheers

Want to help Wine project?
This message is for those who wants to help Wine
project but do not know where to start.
We need contributors of a wide range of skills.
The minimal requirements are:
access to a computer with Linux (or other Unix-like
system) where you can use Wine.
We have a lot of tasks which are relatively easy to
do.
The fact that these tasks are easy does not mean they
are not important.

about the database hack
Hi,
Just wanted to know if this also applies to the codeweavers website or only
wineHQ was affected? Being wine a hosted codeweavers project it leads me to
think the hackers may have compromised some of that info too.
thanks for the honesty on the announcement and hope you can get everything
sorted out :D

Server Hacked: Cpanel
Hi,
I have servers of mixed OS, some Centos, some Fedora, and after the flame war that erupted last week (where I said basically nothing and just watched), my server was hacked by this team of hackers, actually their friend:
http://www.sibersavascilar.com/
This made Karanbir's statements about mixing Cpanel and Centos (any maybe any linux distro) come true very quickly. If

Horribly Nube ?
You gotta start somewhere I figure. I am enjoying wine 1.1.0 and have used it on and off mostly off for several years. Now I am getting serious and I haven't figured out the documentaiton. I got some bad advice from old docs which discouraged me. Anyway, where does one put the "native" dll's from one's windows installation? I know how to use winecfg to activate them and

little problem with winelib...
hello everybody,
i have a slight problem, i want to write a wrapper around win32 binary dll and
use it with my *nix applications, and i have been through the winelib
documentation, and spent pretty much time trying to make a working wrapper, but
i can't seem to get it working (with and without prototyping the calls i seem to
get many "undefined reference to '....'"'s)...

Dovecot in-house benchmarking
Hi,
Before some major changes in our infrastructure, I was interested in
the performance impact of moving indexes to our NAS (Emc Celerra
v5.5). So I downloaded both dovecot-1.1.19 and dovecot-1.2.6, compiled
them and wrote 2 confs for each of them, one with local indexes and
another with indexes in the NAS.
Then I created 19 pam users, and tested system performance this way:
- uninstall

Hi, I have a strange project...
I have a java application that uses JNI (Java Native Methods) that allow
it to use a windows DLL.
I would very much like to run this application under linux using wine to
run java and link to the DLL. I think it will work but am having trouble
with the wine configuration. In particular:
The windows version of java running under wine starts but when it trys to
load a class, it first trys to

some security measures I would like to share
I apologize for the html, but it is a copy from a web post I did.
I wanted to share this with list members and hope it helps others.
I tried not to be redundant and add things I have not seen posted before.
Always interested in constructive thoughts, better ideas, etc.

auth_user setting?
Hi all,
I've installed rc23 in a new testing machine, and i've had some permission
problems related to dovecot-master.conf. As I have my master passwords in
that file, I don't want it to be world readable.
dovecot -n shows that auth_user is nobody, so setting the permissions to
nobody.whatever 640 solves the problem.
Anyway, I've tried to change the auth_user setting with no
