Installing Wordview with Winetools
Dear friends:
I am pleased to say that I successfully installed Internet Explorer
Sp1 on my Linux (Scientific Linux 4.0, which is based on RHEL 4)
using Wintools.
After installing IE6, I thought installing WordView (the Word97
word view program) would be a snap. But instead Wintools failed
to install it in several attempts. It started, downloaded the file and
tried to install it. But at

Help using system() command to execute Perl script through MSDOS
I am working on creating a program for some simulations I need to do and I
want to execute a Perl script that I wrote using the system() command in R.
I have spent a couple days trying to figure this out and it appears that my
problem occurs when sending the perl script file path through R to MSDOS. I
have tried using double backslashes, quotations, etc. Moving my files to the
root directory with

Ugly menu/dialog font of applications, using debian sarge and wine 0.9.8 and 0.9.22
hello,
I have a problem with an unsuitable font in the
windows menus/dialogs with the above versions of wine
(dont think this depends much on the versions, though.
Have not tried other versions so far.) when using
debian sarge.
The font seems to look a bit ugly, usually destroys
partly the menu/dialog structures, and, most
important, has no German umlaut's (the diphtongs ae,
oe, ue and

How do I install Wordview 97 on Wine 20041019?
Dear friends:
[Using Wine 20041019, the one recommended by WineTools 2.1.2]
Using WineTools, I succeeded in installing ALL of the Windows files
including IE 6, WMP 6.4, the MS core fonts, etc. etc. and all of the
other system files. However, I have repeatedly failed to install MSWord
97 Viewer or Office 97. It's supposed to install but it fails every
time. Would be happy just to have

How convert Linux path to Windows path like "cygpath" does?
I'm forced to use Windows at work, so I make very heavy use of Cygwin (http://cygwin.com/), a very wonderful thing. One way I use it is with this handy little shell script:
Code:
#!/bin/sh
MSO="/cygdrive/c/Program Files/Microsoft Office/OFFICE11"
if [ -n "$1" ]; then
"$MSO"/WORDVIEW.EXE "$(cygpath -w "$@")" &

Re: Problem: Print to PDF using MS Office
I've downloaded and installed Microsoft's WordView to
display .doc and .docx files using Wine. To convert them to .pdf files, I
downloaded and installed cups-pdf so I can "print" .pdf files.
"PDF" now appears as a printer in WordView running under Wine, but when I
"print" to it, nothing shows up in Print Status. "PDF" also shows up in my

printing with wine thru ghostscript
The printing howto is a little vague in this area. How do I go about
printing through ghostscript from windows? I know how to teach
ghostscript to print the ttfs (generate the appropriate afms, add them
to the fontmap). Where do I place the afms for wine to use? If I
provide afms for each truetype font for wine, and then use a postscript
printer ppd file, and set lpt1 to be |lpr, will this

Wine and winsock
Having gotten the latest CVS to build, I'm trying to get IE working
again (yeah, yeah, I know...)
I can get it to load, but then it doesn't seem to be able to make any
network connections. I can't browse anything. It doesn't matter whether
I use ip addresses or dns names. This was working on previous versions,
but I can't quite figure out what changes broke this. Any help or

newbie: wine-20011004 & word97 saving
I've just installed wine 20011004 using tarball. Wordview and word
seem to run nicely, but I cant save edited files. Word claims that the
file already exists or that it is RO or that there is not enough
memory and/or disk space. Anyone knows a solution to this??
Thanks in advance!

memory leak?
Hi list,
I'm configuring microsoft doc|ppt|xls viewers to run under KDE. After a
bit of hassle even printig works ok :) Great work, guys.
I noticed while running xlview.exe that wine proccess grows about 3mb in
size each 5 seconds. Running with --debugmsg warn+all shows lots of
'warn:heap:HEAP_Is_Real_Arena Heap 0x40ef0000: block 0x300476d2 is not
inside heap' messages. With

Type1 Fonts
I've narrowed the my Cups printing problem down to Wine not loading my
Type 1 fonts.
I have several Type 1 fonts installed in 3 places, all of which are in
my fontpath ("xset q" lists them). I can use the Type 1 fonts in X and
with KDE-2.2.1 even as AntiAliased, however, when I try to print from an
app under wine I get a memory error and a message at the command line

Wine release 20010216
This is release 20010216 of Wine, a free implementation of Windows on
Unix. This is still a developers only release. There are many bugs
and unimplemented features. Most applications still do not work
correctly.
Patches should be submitted to "wine-patches@winehq.com". Please don't
forget to include a ChangeLog entry.

smbldap-tool scripts not executing
I'm running a samba pdc+ldap and am having issue with a windows 7 client.
Checking the logs, I see nothing about smbldap-useradd. If I manually run
smbldap-useradd -w hostname$, I'm able to add the client to the domain, but
then run into the trust issue preventing anyone from logging in.
The PDC was running Samba 3.6 from Sernet, but downgraded to 3.5 as part of
CentOS 6.
As a test, I put
