./tools/wineinstall
Great work, but I have a suggestion:
Near the end of the install I get the following message:
"Could not stat /mnt/fd0 (No such file or directory), ignoring drive A:"
would not `grep /dev/fd0 /etc/fstab | awk '{print $2}'` have been a more
sensible default? or perhaps something a little more clever that takes
account of zip drives etc?

How to get IE6 stable?
Hello,
I installed IE6 with both WineTools and IEs4Linux (under different user
accounts).
Most of the features work, but IE often hangs. Then I can only kill the
process.
Has someone got IE6 stable under WINE?
If so, which WINE version do I have to use and how shall I configure
it?
Thanks in advance,
Colin Finck

Can I use "mcnemar.test" for 3*3 tables (or is there a bug in the command?)
Hello all,
I wish to perform a mcnemar test for a 3 by 3 matrix.
By running the slandered R command I am getting a result but I am not sure I
am getting the correct one.
Here is an example code:
(tt <- as.table(t(matrix(c(1,4,1 ,
0,5,5,
3,1,5), ncol = 3))))
mcnemar.test(tt, correct=T)
#And I get:

MGE Pulsar Extreme - restart problem
Hello,
looking for replacements for some older Powerware equipment I found the MGE
Pulsar Extreme 1000C and I'm currently testing one with nut-2.0.3 on a
self-brewn i386-linux.
Upto now everything seems to work fine - except I can't get the power outlets
switching on again after mains returns. As this works with Personal
Solution-Pac 2 on W2k I thought that there might be a way to

Missing headers in Icecast2
Hi everybody,
Assorgia and me, we have worked on the Flash client for Icecast2. We got
successful results with:
-Windows (Netscape, Mozilla, CompuServe, or Opera) -Macintosh and
Linux(Netscape, Internet Explorer for Macintosh, Safari, AOL, Opera, or
CompuServe)
For Windows (Internet Explorer or AOL) some headers sent by Icecast2 are
missing. These headers are sent by Icecast1 but NOT Icecast2

Icecast in Macromedia Flash
Hi Stephan,
Thanks for reporting. Now we know it doesn't work on IE 5.5/Windows (but it
works on IE5.2 on MAC). You had nice idea to store the file on the icecast2
root. Unfortunately, I already tried it few days ago and it didn't work
either...
Cheers,
MAX

Camera Communications
I have an Olympus camera which communicates with the software through
a special cable connected to COM2:. The software works in WINE, but it
won't communicate with the camera, it says my COM: settings are wrong,
but I've tried changing settings to about every combination possible
with no luck. Any ideas? Has anyone gotten this type of camera to work
in WINE?
Thanks,
BIll K.

Almost MS-free
I am two applications away from being MS-free. The second is
Photo-Paint, but that's another message. The first is CompuServe
2.6.1, a/k/a WinCim. If I try to run cs261.exe under wine, it crashes
with a blank error window after attempting to run InstallShield. If I
just try to copy the files from my old computer and run wincim.exe
under wine, absolutely nothing happens (which is absolutely

Building ZDoom with winelib
Hi all,
I'm trying to build the Windows version of ZDoom 2.1.7 under Linux
with Winelib. Of course, I know that ZDoom can be compiled natively
under Linux, but I'm aiming to port Skulltag (which is based on ZDoom)
to Linux and if ZDoom can't be build with Winelib, Skulltag can't be
either.
With little modifications I was able to compile ZDoom with winegcc,
but during linking the

What affects file locking?
Hi--
We are in a production environment with one WinXP box and several linux boxes.
We have discovered that the WinXP and linux boxes seem to respect each other's
file locks, but that the linux boxes do not respect each other's locks. In other
words, box 1 can have a file open, and at the same time box 2 can open it and
edit and save the file.
We have smb.conf set with level2 oplocks

Problem mapping drive names on Win95
Hi,
in my Office, I'm trying to replace a Novell-server by a Linux-server.
On the Novell-server, there is the SYS: volume. On this volume
is a directory named DriveT. I did a map on it, so this SYS:DriveT was
used as T: . If you link Excel sheets, which are stored on T:,
to Word documents, Word unfortunately saves the UNC path,
which is \\SERVER1\SYS\DRIVET instead of T:
On my new Samba

Calling Other (non-C or Fortran) Programs from R
Hi!
I wonder if anyone has experiences of calling other programs
from R (i.e., not C or Fortran programs).
Specifically I want to call LEM from R and execute it in a
loop to process its output in R. Thanks,

Winetools is terrific
Yesterday, I finally jad an extended opportunity to try using wt to set
up wine again. Last time I tried, ie wouldn't work when I got through.
This time, it worked great. I am thinking that part of the problem was
due to the time required for the download of IE, using the dialup
connection. Winsserver timed out a number of times. By installing
again, the downloaded stuff was already there,

> having two NICs on the same subnet
I'm trying to wrap my brain around that in the larger network picture. Two
NICs in the same subnet (presumably on the same computer) would have access
to the same other devices. This could potentially increase bandwidth
(maybe?) and offer redundancy (if NICS, wiring or switches were the biggest
source of failure). I'm not sure how the OS would
