Please Recommend Affordable and Reliable Cloud Storage for 50 TB of Data
Hi, Could you recommend affordable and reliable cloud storage for 50 TB of data? Here are some important factors to consider: 1. Personal/non-commercial use. 2. Must be affordable, since I am unemployed most of the time and have super low levels of income for the past 12 years since I graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2007. 3. Cloud storage provider must not be a

[HW] Do the HDD cages in rack mount chassis indicate visual/audio HDD failure?
I have no personal experience with rack mount chassis. >From the past postings, I reckon there are members, in this list, who have experience in rack mount setups and would like get their advice. To reduce the H/W cost, I am considering Linux mdadm RAID10 on a 2U chassis. I would appreciate clarification on the following: In rack mount chassis, do the cages that house the hard disks have

cron.hourly runs twice
For some reason I cannot fathom, cron.hourly runs twice each hour on one of my two CentOS-5.4 systems, as reported in /var/log/cron: ------------------------- Mar 16 14:01:01 helen crond[27833]: (root) CMD (run-parts /etc/cron.hourly) Mar 16 14:01:01 helen crond[27834]: (root) CMD (run-parts /etc/cron.hourly) ------------------------- On the other it just runs once, as expected.

HDD Problem....
Ok so I have a 500GB WD "Blue Scorpion" HDD that I'm trying to access via USB, when I boot up my CentOS laptop the lights on the external USB casing light up...and I can hear the drive making noise, but after a few minutes I hear an abrupt "click" and the drive doesn't do anything. I can SEE it in the Disk Utility in CentOS,...I even tried to format it from there as

SSD for Centos SWAP /tmp & /var/ partition
Has anyone actually used a SSD in a Centos setup? My little experiment with a s/h WD drive for /tmp and SWAP partitions kicked the bucket on Wednesday, when the poor WD drive caught the click-of-death. It was a s/h drive to start with and lasted about 4 months. But that was without the /var/log/ partition being written to it, as I mounted that back onto /var/log from the original drive. So

CentOS 6 supported hardware
Has anyone seen a supported hardware list on CentOS 6? I've been looking around for the last few days; even looked at RedHat's site but didn't find one. I've got a Dell Inspiron 1501 with a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN mini-card in it and I'm trying to find out if it's going to have native driver support for the WIFI. thanks, -- Mark Weaver Computer Information Systems

Remote backup of server
Hello, I want mount directory of one server to another over internet. I was looking to NFS4, but there are no security mechanisms. I need encrypted connection using private key (something like SFTP). Or - if there is in CentOS repo (or EPEL) package, that can mount directory over internet using private key and make differential backup (like rdiff-backup). Thank you very much for links or other

CentOS-6.5 LiveDVD problem
I downloaded the Live DVD for CentOS-6.5 and burned a DVD-R using a CentOS-6.5 desktop. To test the validity of the new DVD I then rebooted the same desktop using the same Live DVD. No matter which Live DVD boot option I choose I see this after the splash screen completes the Circle (sounds like a good title for a novel). <--- Kernel panic - Not syncing - Attempting to kill init! What is L2ARC write pattern?
Hello all, A few months ago I saw a statement that L2ARC writes are simplistic in nature, and I got the (mis?)understanding that some sort of ring buffer may be in use, like for ZIL. Is this true, and the only metric of write-performance important for L2ARC SSD device is the sequential write bandwidth (and IOPS)? In particular, there are some SD/MMC/CF cards for professional photography and

help ith burncd (Input/output error, 6.1-RC, plextor PX-740a)
I have a new system which includes a Plextor PX-740a DVD+-R/RW CD-R/RW drive attached to an Asus A8V-MX motherboard. When I try to use burncd to burn a cd, it writes all of the data, says "fixating CD, please wait.." and then reports burncd: ioctl(CDRIOCFIXATE): Input/output error Oddly enough, the CD seems to be usable. I can successfully burn the same file if I use cdrecord. The

Problem with 16-in-1 card reader
My new PC has an internal 16-in-1 card reader connected via USB 2.0. The device is the Techsolo TCR-1640 (http://www.techsolo.de/product/cardreader/tcr_1640/index.php). I boot from a compact flash inserted in it and I can mount and unmount the same CF once the system has booted and has mounted the root partition from my graid3 array. The problem arise when I replace the inserted CF with another

broken controls in "Captain Claw" game
Hi. I want to play the old '97 game "Claw". It installs and runs, but strangly I can't jump in it! No matter what I use, keyboard or gamepad. Normally, if you tap the spacebar, the character makes a low jump; if you hold the spacebar, he makes a high jump. However, under wine all jumps are low. Other movements work fine though. I even tried to run the game under winxp guest in

USB-Storage after perfect booting
Hello, I'm doing experiments with my unuseful 8MB SMartMedia card on a preety USB CardReader. This may be is an off topic, but I don't have many friends that deal with this kind of stuffs. Everything is fine, I use the media just to load a kernel and an initrd with some drivers to boot from network (I have a lot of boot ROMS and their sucks) I tested on a lot of PCs using the Andrea

Whitespace standard?
I've noticed that throughout the code there's quite a variety of formatting styles, especially the size of TAB characters (4 or 8) and size of indents (2 or 4). Is there any agreed standard for new code now? Oh, and whoever wrote the ogg code must get an electric shock every time he hits the spacebar. It's full of spaceless lines like
