Can't open R files
Hello. I'm not sure whether this is strictly the right forum but here goes... I have got a new (well reconditioned) laptop and have installed R studio on it. That works fine if I say write a little prog directly into it or paste R script from a word doc. But if I try to open an R prog (which I've written elsewhere, the laptop doesn't recognise it as an R prog. Instead it gives me

Mappery : uncertain Thinkpads (Repost?)
Followups set, hesitantly, to gmane.linux.redhat.fedora.general
I thought I had posted this to both these groups, but my
newsreader doesn't show it in either.
I have three Garmin GPSs (an Etrex Vista and two Rino 120s),
which I want to use under Fedora 11 Linux with four PCs, and two IBM-
reconditioned Thinkpads, T30 & T42.

Three Identical systems - short cut to setting up the drives?
I am building three identical systems. Well they will have different
host names, and with time the software setups will drift. But at
install time they are identical.
Is there some way, (with dd I might guess) to do a hardare level copy?
All three drives are Hitachi DK23DA-40F (40Gb). Supposedly factory
reconditioned (they are in sealed bags with a drive sticker stating:

RE: pronunciation? -- loving CentOS doesn't mean you have to bash Red Hat

It's good enough that HP is losing lots of clients because HP (among
other tier-1 OEMs short of IBM) is finding that Linux their support
is sub-par. Even Dell and others are just farming support out to
Red Hat.

Custom kernel needed for ndiswrapper? (for Linksys WPC54G wireless pcmcia)
Greetings:
I'm just installed Centos-4 on an IBM T-21 laptop. So far so good. Now
I'd like to pop in a wireless lan adapter. I'm looking at a buying a
Linksys WPC54G adapter (although I haven't done so yet).
After doing some searching, it looks like the best way to get this card
working is via ndiswrapper [http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net] and then
to use Windoze

64-bit Windows advanced server 2003 hangs
I just had the unpleasant experience of crashing a production server
_twice_ when trying to access a file share.
The server is 64-bit Windows 2003 on an itanium3. My box is RedHat Linux
8.0 with Samba 3.0.0-2. Here's some messages from syslog:

Do you have a recommendation for a battery charger? Or a list of features to look for?

Seagate Constellation vs. Hitachi Ultrastar
Happy Friday, List!
I''m spec''ing out a Thumper-esque solution and having trouble finding my favorite Hitachi Ultrastar 2TB drives at a reasonable post-flood price. The Seagate Constellations seem pretty reasonable given the market circumstances but I don''t have any experience with them. Anybody using these in their ZFS systems and have you had good luck?
Also, if

The Sims
I have a copy of the Sims installed on a Win2k FAT32 partition. I know
for a fact that The Sims works under Wine (Mandrake's "Gamer" edition),
but I get an error when I try to run it. The error is as follows:
"Game cannot be started because:
There is not enough memory or hard drive space to run.
Exit now."
I do have plenty of free space and plenty of memory. Does

Software RAID complete drives or individual partitions
I have been reading about software raid. I configured my first software raid system about a month ago.
I have 4 500 Gig drives configured in RAID 5 configuration with a total of 1.5TB.
Currently I configured the complete individual drivers as software raid, then created a /dev/md0 with the drives
I then created a /file_storage partition on /dev/md0.
I created my /boot / and swap partitions on

Speed/lockup problems with wireless client
Hi,
I have samba running on a home LAN using a Linksys mixed wired (100 Mbit
ethernet) & wireless access point, which also does NAT to a DSL modem. The
server is connected to this access point via an ethernet cable. Clients can
connect via wireless or wired network connection.
I am using encrypted passwords, and have in smb.conf:
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=4096

Eaton 5PX 3rd party batteries
Sounds like great advice, thanks!
Would you care to post it to the NUT wiki or in-source FAQ document (or
can I)?
Probably the meaningfulness of specific company names is too
geographically and temporally limited, however the technical part is
universally applicable.
