looking for some advice to monitor network usage in office
Hi all, I've been asked by a college to setup a monitor to monitor a Windows network, but on internet usage. They want to have detailed usage, i.e. on a per IP / PC basis, and if possible to get stats for every protocol, and see over a period of time what goes on. My first though wat ntop, which does all of this, but it doesn't save the data in a DB, so if the server reboots the stats

Hi There, We currently using iproute2 for load balancing. However we need more upload speed as we load balance over 3 dsl lines. [CORRECTED] Postfix SMTP authentication on remote relay serve
Sorry about the previous post, I see the subject had a typo. So here's the correct one :) Does anyone know how to configure Postfix to use SMTP authentication on a relay host? i.e. I have a Linux server, running PostFix on an ADSL line with a dynamic IP. Thus I can't just send out emails from this server but need to relay it via our ISP's SMTP server, which is very unreliable. Now

best practice: how to setup a central "network installation server"?
Hi, I want to setup a central installation server, but haven't done this before, so I want to find out what would be best practices for this? The server I have already runs as a central repo, which is updated from one or our local centos mirrors, and the other CentOS servers (both i386 & x64), as well as CentOS VPS's get their updates from this server. But, now I want to allow a

looking for alternative to SME & Clark Connect
Hi all, I'm looking for a (preferably free) alternative to SME / Clark Connect. I basically need the following: - firewall - nat - VPN - bandwidth limiting / monitoring - email (SMTP / POP3 / IMAP) & groupware - file & printer sharing - RAID support - if possible fail-over / high availability support. I need to support about 15 - 30 (some part time) students, so I would like to keep

IPV4 is nearly depleted, are you ready for IPV6?
Seeing as IPV4 is near it's end of life (http://www.internetnews.com/infra/article.php/3915471/IPv4+Nearing+Final+Days.htm), I'm curios as who know whether everyone is ready for the changeover to IPV6? Is anyone using it in production already, and what are your experiences with it? -- Kind Regards Rudi Ahlers SoftDux Website: http://www.SoftDux.com Technical Blog:

how to work with Code Repositories, but for web development?
Hi all, I would like some suggestion on this matter please. I have never bothered using any code repositories / version control systems for our web development project, many cause I didn't know any better, and probably cause most of our projects don't really require that we need to keep a history of what has changed. i.e. a client wants to change something on their website, and we change

company exchange server & exim best practices.
Hi all, I hope this isn't too OT, but since I use a CentOS5.2 + Exim mail server (which is hosted in one of our data centres) I don't think it should be. On of our clients use an MS Exchange 2003 SBS server, with exchange for their internal email. We provide them with a domain, ADSL (which uses dynamic DNS) and POP3 email. They don't have an spam filter program on the exchange server

Two ADSL Lines either ECMP or BGP?
Hi - I am trying to find a Linux based solution for one of my clients, I want to bond two adsl lines into one, with redundancy (if one fails the other does all the work). I''ve been looking into ECMP (Equal Cost Multipath), I know BGP would work, but something like ECMP would be much simpler. I have full control of both ends of the connections and I can have both ADSL lines terminate in

how to boot domU XEN guest in safe mode?
Hi all, How can I boot a XEN domU guest into safe mode? One of our servers was forcefully shutdown, and it seems like one of my VM''s could be corrupt, or something. Commit interval 5 seconds EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Setting up other

HVM = fully virtualized. The question is, why are you using fully virtualized domUs?
