real SATA RAID
Hi
Last week I had a lengthy thread in which someone indicated the my SIL
card is a FRAID (don't know if F stands for the F word or Fake, though it
doesn't really matter). I want to replace the controller with a controller
that Linux will see the RAID1 group as a single HD and not multiple HDs as
it happens with the SIL controller. Recommendations anyone?

Intel DG33BU motherboard
Hi
I've installed CentOS 5.2 (i386) in a computer with a DG33BU motherboard
... When I installed it it crashed because of ACPI issues. Searching Google
I found that I need to turn ACPI off in order to successfully install
CentOS, which I did.
After a while I noticed that because of ACPI is off the Linux kernel

Postfix problem
Hi
I have a CentOS 4.2 server with postfix. The problem I'm having is
that postfix insists on using $myhostname in the from field even if I
instruct it to use $mydomain in /etc/postfix/main.cf or even if I hard
code the domain name into $myorigin. What am I missing?
BTW: postconf shows output shows that $myorigin is configured to use
$mydomain, or the domain name itself ...

sound problem
Hi
I have CentOS 5.2 installed on a computer (the same one that I just posted
a message on: Intel DG33BU motherboard) and for even though audio is
reported to be found and working Linux just doesn't play anything through
the speakers. The computer dual boots Linux/Windows and when in Windows
sound works great, so it's strictly a Linux problem. Can anyone try and help
me find out where

peth device
Hi
I reached the conclusion that my networking problem stems from the
fact that I have no peth0 device. I''m trying to locate what creates the
device, but until now no success. So I have a simple question: What
creates the peth0 device in dom0?
TIA

Polycom SoundPoint 501
Hi
We've setup an Asterisk PBX recently and I encountered the following
problem: When [mac address]-registration.cfg file includes the FQDN of
the Asterisk PBX for the Polycom SoundPoint 501 phones it will not (even
try to) register with the Asterisk PBX unless the DNS (it asks)
successfully resolves the name: _sip._udp.[Asterisk FQDN]. Did this
happen to anyone else?

compiling rpms
Hi!
i compiled rpms like postfix with mysql support. My problem is when i
compile programs i can't distinguish the difference between postfix
w/o mysql and postfix w/ mysql because they have the same
filename(postfix-2.x.x.i386.rpm), what i like to happen is when i
compile postfix w/ mysql support it will show something like
postfix-mysql-2.x.x.i386.rpm. so when i install and try to query it,

multiple auto attendants
Hi
I was given the task to try and build a VOIP solution to an office
building with multiple tenants in all sizes and shapes. Some of them
will require auto attendants and some will simply want direct lines to
their phones.
The question I have is: Can asterisk be configured to handle multiple
auto attendants?
TIA

yum pinning rpms
I did a little googling for this, but only found meaningless
references, since pin has too, too common other meanings.
Is there a way to pin a version of a particular package with yum/rpm?
I have the rpms for the beta 2.0 version of OpenOffice installed, so
I'm not interested in the updates for OpenOffice 1.1.2-24.6.0.EL4
which are now coming in. Is there a way to instruct yum to ignore this

I have a serires of servers that their hostname (not FQDN) is built in the
same manner [header, 3 letters][collo, 4 letters][environment, 3

There''s no specific separator between each part of hostname. Is there way I

I'm trying to make a Linux server (RHEL 5.3) join my company's ADS
domain. The company's domain is built from serveral kerberos realms
and Windows domain. the Linux FQDN resolves to the name of one of the
kerberos realms we have, but I was asked to to have the linux server
join a different kerberos realm and windows Domain. When I attempt to

drive mapping's connection problems
Hi
My company network is built from a series of Solaris
machines running samba (2.2.x) and windows 2000 clients.
The domain controller is samba 2.2.8a. When someone logs
on the login script maps a few shares to drive letters.
Recently the drive mappings started getting disconnected
and when pressed they print out the error:

drbd82 RPMS for testing
All,
There are drbd82 RPMS for CentOS-4 and CentOS-5 (i386 and x86_64) for
testing here:
http://people.centos.org/~hughesjr/drbd/
These are designed to be able to live in the same repository as the
current STABLE versions.
These RPMS are designed as CONFLICTS and not upgrades as there may be
some manual actions to upgrade, especially on CentOS-4.
Here is an article on the upgrade process:

Heartbeat for Centos 5- Can't build RPMS or install prebuilt RPMS
I am stuck. This is X86_64 platform.
In the extras repos, there is the SRPMS for heartbeat along with the
RPMS for it.
I have downloaded both. But I can't build the RPMS from the SRPM as it
fails compiling something in BUILD/heartbeat-2.0.8/lib/crm/pengine
Additionally, I can't install the RPMS:
rpm -Uvh
heartbeat-2.0.8-3.el5.centos.i386.rpm
heartbeat-2.0.8-3.el5.centos.x86_64.rpm

The Custom Kernel Howto says:
With the buildroot correctly set up, it's time to modify the kernel

new freenx and nx RPMS released, manual action for x86_64
There are new RPMS released for nx and freenx in the CentOS-4 and
CentOS-5 Extras repository.
I normally do not announce that here, as those can easily be obtained on
a normal "yum upgrade/update", however in this case there are special
actions required *_IF_* you have the x86_64 architecture for either
CentOS-4 or CentOS-5 with the current versions of nx and freenx installed.
