Logwatch / spamassassin
Hi all,
Well it took a while for me to figure it out, but apparently my logwatch no
longer can be mailed locally on my computer as I believe spamassassin is
eating it.
I can send it out to an email address outside my server though. So
spamassassin is only checking incoming I guess.
My question is....how do I...or should I.... Make all local mail go straight
to the boxes and skip spamasassin

restrict postfix to only certain users getting incoming mail
Perhaps I am trying to do the impossible.
centos6, spamassassin, procmail, dovecot, postfix.
Postfix, by default, accepts all incoming mail to any user listed in the
shadow/passwd and alias files.
I cannot find a way to stop that without manually blocking each non
wanted user (like nobody, apache) without killing local delivery.
For most of the users listed in those files, who cares. However

Cron for spamassassin
Hi all,
Question: Do you run the cron.d for updating spamassassin that came with the
distro (centos 5.x)?
I tried doing it when it was first set up and it just kept failing.
Although set to run, neither sa-update logs nor cron logs show any activity
at all on this cron.
And thus I usually do it by hand, running sa-update -D on the command line
every week or so.
The cron.d/sa-update file is

postfix and spam, I am impressed
I have had the same email address since 1997 (when microsoft stole
bob.com from me thanks to network solutions...)
In the early days I of course was free with my email and used it everwhere.
Fast forward to 2012, some 15 years later.
woof..the amount of spam sent to me has always just kept getting worse
and worse.
On my centos 5 server I just used sendmail with spamassassin and it

my spammer list
Hello,
Thanks to some nice people on here and other forums I have pretty much
finalized my whole mail system on centos 6.x.
With all the checks, greylisting, dev/null of any 8+ spam level SA, I
still get a few mails.
It seems like everytime I enable a new protectant, the mail stops
spamming for a few hours...then the spammers decide I am worthy of using
better methods against me..and more

reinventing the wheel? page checker
Not sure if there is an app like this yet.
I want to keep tabs on my web applications and thought of using a 'page
checker'/
I was thinking either running a sum on the directory or each file...but
thinking a simple date check would
be fine.
The idea is web application, except the uploads area for photos, never
has changes to its files except when I change it.
However, if it gets

my notes on bond, bridge, network, kvm, host and virtual so far
I put this page together just so I won't spam the board anymore begging
for help..lol
http://bobhoffman.com/vmissue.html
This shows a working effort of bonded eths, bridged into a vm, and a few
other things.
The only missing thing is something on the host that ends up putting the
VM internet
connection into some kind of limbo.
Whether it is hardware related, bug related, libvirt nat

DKIM
Okay,
Yahoo is bumming me. Only system my mail is having an issue with. All mail
is accepted, but junked. I can only think it is the DKIM/Domain keys.
It is apparent that the dkim-milter is not part of the centos 5.x distro nor
is it part of the mirrors, as far as I can tell.
So...have any of you done it with your servers for sendmail?
There are some sites that claim to have rpms and I have

redhat vs centos
I have been reading the threads on here with great ernest about redhat
making a move to throw off centos compilations.
I read some stories about microsoft wanting to work closer with centos
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/05/17/microsoft_and_centos/
I have to update to centos 6 due to some needs of clients who need newer
mysql and php (and installing them on centos5
was too hard for me).

Centos convert to rhel?
Hate to ask, but after reading the last few months of centos history online
I am worried.
And to learn the lead guy seems to have absconded with the cash and left all
the hard working devs high and dry..well that is scary.
They all worked so hard and who knows what will happen now.
If centos falls I have no choice but to go to redhat. I am wondering if the
conversion will be easy or a complete

oops, or how to bring a datacenter router down with one setting
so I gave up on bonding.
I found about 300 posts showing eth0 and eth1 both pointing to br0 (bridge)
as interfaces.
I followed them correctly, or so I thought.
I pointed both ethx to the bridge, restarted network and bam...!!!
entire ip block went out.
when I called datacenter they told me the router was under attack and I
was like 'uh oh' and told them to just shut off my computer I

Spam, fail2ban and centos
Been working on my anti-spam centos mailserver for a while now and
thought I would share fail2ban's help.
I installed fail2ban a few weeks back. It was tough to get it working
properly but pretty much working now.
Although it works fine for brute force, I thought I would run it pretty
tough against spammers.
I started with a regular mail server, my old one, that is horrendously

Update on spam, postfix, fail2ban, centos 6
I have been using centos 6 in a virtualized system for a few months now.
Took a while to batten down the hatches with postfix, rbls, and to use
fail2ban correctly.
The mailserver for my website(s) are located on the http server as
well..an 'all in one' server.
DNS servers are separated.
My two sites, and their emails addresses (1 for each) have been around

how is this possible?
I got a spam today (from a yahoo server, surprise!) with nothing but a
single link.
http:// 2927755261/
I separated the http so it would not be a link in your email... suggest
not going to it without proper measures.
it takes you to a record search site.
When I look up this number block here,
http://www.ip-adress.com/ip_tracer/2927755261
it comes up with a different ip address...

Tmp directory and sticky
I noticed after my install that the tmp directory was
A- not a sticky
B- still executable
I went and changed etc/fstab to add loop, noexec, nosuid,rw, which I hope is
the right thing to do.
I rebooted and it looks like it worked.
When doing an ls -l on the main directory, the tmp folder lit up all green
in putty (cool, I hope)
But the chmods I did with winscp will not take effect (they do on

add on sata card relabeling drives, installation
Hi all.
I have a new server and am playing with the installation. (centos 6). My
onboard sata card has 6 drives attached to it,
yet the server has 8 bays. I bought a sata controller card (adaptec) and
added it to the mix, adding two more drives.
Everything works and all is accessible, but there is one annoying issue.
When installing with anaconda, the 2 drives located on the add-on sata

auth-master: Permission denied [sigh]
I've been messing with this for too long, now, and I'm blind to whatever's
wrong. Or I'm simply being dense. Either way, I need help with a common
issue.
I'm trying to get Postfix+Spamassassin+Dovecot going on Fedora 10. (I'll
get back to the global Sieve thingy soon, but I need to get this going,
first.)
When using the simple:

your advice on backup procedure
Hello all,
I am down to my last hurdle of my project, backups.
I am thinking of three different ways to go and wanted to ask for input
on what you think is the better choice.
Not asking for 'how to' but more of 'what is best in your experience'
The scenario...
centos server acting as a virtual host. Virtual machines are webservers
and dns servers. All on one machine, all running

control panels, like or dislike?
When I first started using webservers I leased shared hosting. Then I
moved to vps. Then to dedicated.
In all that I was with various control panels.
In almost all cases bugs in those control panels would cause all sorts
of issues.
(ensim, cpanel, plesk).
The load on the server seemed greatly increased (especially with ensim).
When I built my first server 4 years ago I decided to heck with

called a spammer today
thought you would find this interesting...
I get a LOT of political spam on one of my mails due to hosting a
political site once.
I have been slowly blacklisting the bulk companies and 'the net' of
private people
pushing political spam.
There is one guy who has been sending me stuff for years and I just have
it go to the junk folder and deleted..forgot about it.
