X just died then restarted
Just had a weird thing happen that I've never encountered before. Running Centos 5.x (updated) on 32-bit (Athlon XP). Was going along in Firefox when suddenly my screen went black and the hard drive light came on mostly steady for several seconds. After a little bit I got back the X login screen. It normally comes up on F7, but F7 was dead (with some text I'll paste in below in case it

Ok... I am running fedora core 3 and trying to authenticate to a windows 2003 server... I was able to join the domain without any problems... I was having problems creating the directories... Found an article that mentioned to add client schannel = no to get to the point I am at now... The account is granted access... The directories are created... I click ok... Then it gives me an xsession

Memory usage bar plot
Hi, I haven't tried the code yet. Is there a way to parse this data using R and create bar plots so that each program's 'RAM used' figures are grouped together. So 'uuidd' bars will be together. The data will have about 50 sets. So if there are 100 processes each will have about 50 bars. What is the recommended way to graph these big barplots ? I am looking

gconfd problem : cannot create /usr/share/tomcat5/.gconfd
Hi folks, after several updates and a reboot I get errors concerning gconfd wanting to create a directory "/usr/share/tomcat5/.gconfd" which fails and other errors - when I start Tomcat5. Why is gconfd (suddenly) needed/activated if Tomcat5 is started? Can I disable that - and how? Dirk

I appear to be attacking others
It looks like my CentOS 4.2 box is attacking other people with some type of ftp attack. I got an email from somebody saying they were being attacked by my IP address. Further investigation /var/log/messages shows a whole bunch of sshd attacks on me, none of which appear successful. I'm running ethereal right now and I can see that my system is doing some kind of ftp attacks on others.

Installing Office on Crossover
Dear friends: I have been trying to install MSOffice using Crossover. I have an old license from 2002, which entitled me to install the Crossover Plugin and the CrossoverOffice Set up. Support for them has expired, but both programs uinstalled fine into their own directory in KDE. But I do have a problem installing MSOffice. I keep getting the error message "Unable to get a list of

Xrdp
The VNC server just listens to the appropriate TCP/IP port and then runs Xvnc which does the actual VNC communication. Ideally I'd be able to do the same thing for RDP then the daemon doesn't get any more complicated, and a bug in the RDP layer can't crash the server. I don't know enough about how NX works but I suspect we could do the same thing as for VNC and RDP. I'm

Code review for stopper: 7315 xVM VNC service doesn''t work
http://cr.opensolaris.org/~johnlev/xvm-vnc-chown/ Now Xvnc runs as the ''jack'' user on the live CD, the password file must be owned by jack for it to work. Note that a full fix for this would make this VNC service only exist on the live CD[1]. As a temporary measure, we just disable ourselves post-install. Process question: after putting back to pkg-gate, does this need

mysterious weekly shutdown
I have a Centos 5.4 machine that has, for the past two weeks, apparently been shut off over the weekend. It's just sitting there turned off on Monday morning and when someone hits the power switch it comes right back on and everything works again. This happened last weekend, and again over this past weekend. Here is /var/log/messages from shortly before it apparently shut down this weekend.
