As reported in debian bug #554306 [1] dovecot fails to build with GNU binutils-gold or setting LDFLAGS=-Wl,--no-add-needed http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=554306 The problem is that liblber isn't explicitly declared as a dependence when dovecot is compiled with ldap support. What library(help=foo) produces is not HTML and has no hyperlinks, so why do you want it displayed in a browser? If you do want text displayed in a browser, you can set options("pager") to point to your browser (or a wrapper).
