Memdisk + Freedos problem
I and some other people have problems with running the freedos image included in Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD), when using memdisk for floppy emulation. Memdisk starts booting the image and freedos shows the following menu: 0 Boot Clean 1 Boot UMBPCI (silent) 2 Boot UMBPCI (optimal) 3 Boot UMBPCI (semi-defensive) 4 Boot EMM386 (optimal) 5 Boot EMM386 (semi-defensive) 6 Boot no UMB (defensive) 7 Boot

Xen3 on Etch - Rebooting when 2nd DomU started
Hi All, Fairly new to Debian and Xen but I have a box running with lots of DomUs under Xen2 and it is fine. I have setup a new IBM eServer P4 and loaded Etch and loaded Xen3. It runs up my first DomU beautifully but when I start my second DomU it crashes the PC and reboots. If I comment out the line in /etc/xen/xend-config.sxp (network-script network-bridge) It will run 2 DomUs Have I run

Minimal hardware requirements
Hi, all I am doing "prrof of concept" system. I will have two IP phones connected to Asterisk box. Box itself will have 1 PSTN conenction and one analog phone conenction. A basic minimal configuration. At the moment I am planning to use an old PII-350 with 128M of RAM I have lying around. I can not test anything yet, as I am waiting for phones to arrive, so question is will that be

firewall and * suggestions
Hi, I am going to set up an office of 30 employees and since it's the first time I thought I will ask for suggestions (trying to make a CentOS base office :) ). I was planning to re use an old Compaq LPr PII 450, sw mirrored scsi 10000rpm disks, 448Mb RAM, to build a CentOS based firewall and I was wondering if this hardware would be enough to serve 30 clients (I already have a centos

Any interest in ATLAS-enabled R-1.4.0 for MSWin?
Hi all, I've compiled R-1.4.0 on my NT box with link against ATLAS. It has passed all the Rcmd CHECK that I could run. If there's sufficient interest, I can make the SetupR.exe available (on CRAN?). Just drop me a note if you're interested. Note the following: o I can only connect thru 56K dial-up until Jan. 2, 2002, so unless there's overwhelming demand, I won't attempt

Easiest (best?) linux distribution for dedicated Asterisk box?
First off, I'm sorry for sending so many messages to the list-serv. Hopefully this will be my last for a while! I was going to use my WRT54G router as a small Asterisk box, but I forgot that I had a spare eMachines computer (Intel Celeron 633 MHz, 20GB HD, 64mb RAM). Will this machine work OK for a very simple dedicated home Asterisk box? Also, what is easiest linux distribution to use and

hardware requirements of asterisk
I have been playing with 2 Asterisk boxes for testing purposes, it has been going very well. The 2 boxes are PII celeron 400 (HP Deskpro) with sound cards and lan. I have iax connecting the 2 boxes. For making cals and testing out recorded message for 1 connection it was working quite well. However, when I stressed it a bit with 2 users making calls, we started to here voice degradation and

General question
This is probably more of an IPTables question but... Is there any experience with using as gateway/firewall for a larger office, with 50 or more users, mail and web server? Thanks

shorewall.net is back
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 The server rebuild was a complete failure. For some reason, neither FC3 nor SuSE 9.2 like the graphics card in the box. IXFR regression in nsd 3.2.9?
We upgraded to NSD 3.2.9 (from 3.2.8) because we encountered the problem "Fix denial of existence response for empty non-terminal that looks like a NSEC3-only domain (but has data below it)." (a nasty problem with DNSSEC). But we now have IXFR issues. On one name server, NSD 3.2.9 works fine, zones are IXFRed and work. On another name server, with much more zones (and big ones), we

Slow performance with Win95 client
Hi I am new to this list, but I have been having problems with samba for some time now. Here is the problem When my Win95 clients access the samba server I get real slow transfers, even if I only have one client accessing the server. It transfers at like 70k/s to 150k/s, and the collision lights on the hub start going crazy. even for 10 megabit networking, this is rather slow. (it takes like 3
