I've set up my ups solution with a dedicated box (laptop with its own
powersupply) connected to the ups, and have set up upsmon.conf to use a
customized script (SHUTDOWNCMD
"/usr/local/upsmonitor-files/shutdown.sh") that shuts down my ESXi boxes
properly.
However when ups power reaches the shutdown point, it seems that NUT

The VMWare headache and NUT
I'm having an UPS connected to my ReadyNAS 2100 (running NUT, btw) who
is in turn providing iSCSI storage for my two vmware host boxes.
The same UPS provides power for those two boxes.
I have a proper license, so the vmware vMA 4.1 _CAN_ in theory shut down
the hosts (not a read-only connection as you get with the free version),
but I'm having issues getting NUT to ... play ball with the

NUT, USB, OpenIndiana
I'm about to deploy en OpenIndiana (the heir of OpenSolaris) box as my
main iSCSI backend. However, all attempts at getting NUT 2.6 to work
with my usbhid-ups cyberpower has resulted in the driver going down with
a segmentation fault.
Is there a known problem with nut+usb+openindiana (opensolaris), or am I
just doing something wrong?

Energy efficient UPS - anybody?
Hello,
i`m looking for a nut-compatible low-power UPS (need to hook a home-server+dsl equipment with a load of ~50W to that) which should be as energy efficient as possible and be also affordable.
i currently have an older powerwalker which constantly burns ~15W for nothing. The transformer inside getting that hot that you don`t like to touch it and i think 15W out of 50 is a little bit high

is there some easy way how to shut down vmware ESXi host?
We have same apc smart 1500 and I passed usb port into one virtual linux, so
it can monitor ups state via NUT.
So how can i make esx server avare of low battery? Maybe using vsphere-cli
utils?
With regards

ZFS on a 11TB HW RAID-5 controller
Hello all,
I am a complete newbie to OpenSolaris, and must to setup a ZFS NAS. I do have linux experience, but have never used ZFS. I have tried to install OpenSolaris Developer 134 on a 11TB HW RAID-5 virtual disk, but after the installation I can only use one 2TB disk, and I cannot partition the rest. I realize that maximum partition size is 2TB, but I guess the rest must be usable. For

Cyberpower 1500AVR
All,
I just had a power failure that caused me a little drama. This
spurred me into trying to get NUT up on my cyberpower 1500 again. For
about 6 months I tried to get it to work with the new power panel drive
with no luck. Today I removed all the old files for NUT and installed
the newest version I could find (2.4.3) and it works perfectly now with
my UPS.
Hopefully now I

how normal is this temporary power loss for a single UPS?
Hi
Occasionally I get emails from my NUT system saying that one of my UPSes lost power for about a minute.
Losing power:
Date: 15. nov 2010 17.40.25 CET
regaining power:
Date: 15. nov 2010 17.41.34 CET
69 seconds later. But why? None of the 3 other UPSes reports any power loss. What is the problem?
So I made some scripts that logs the input, output and frequency at the time of power loss,

Hi everybody
I'm rather new to running wine so this might be a problem that is easy to

I have done some debugging on my own without any luck.
My installation is able to run programs like Textpad 4 and notepad.exe.

RAID10
Hi All,
I am looking at ZFS and I get that they call it RAIDZ which is similar to RAID 5, but what about RAID 10? Isn''t a RAID 10 setup better for data protection?
So if I have 8 x 1.5tb drives, wouldn''t I:
- mirror drive 1 and 5
- mirror drive 2 and 6
- mirror drive 3 and 7
- mirror drive 4 and 8
Then stripe 1,2,3,4
Then stripe 5,6,7,8
How does one do this with ZFS?

No subject
doing something wrong by not registering our workstations with a DNS?
I have been searching through the documentation today without finding anything
relevant on the subject. When our PC's are configured via DHCP to use our
caching only DNS, will they start looking up machines on our local network using
DNS and forget everything about WINS and broadcast?
It worked just perfectly for nearly

abusing nut ups to do temperature shutdown WHILE monitoring UPS'es
Hi
I am thinking about using the existing NUT software to tell the slave
servers
to shutdown if the temperature in the server room becomes too high.
I was thinking of monitoring the temperature on the master NUT server
and
then just letting the slave clients shut down. But the slaves (and
master
server) needs to do a complete power off even though the UPS's does
get 220v power all the

Problem using an Eaton Ellipse ASR 750 VA on FreeBSD
Hello guys,
I have to manage an Eaton Ellipse ASR 750 VA UPS under a FreeBSD 8.2 server.
I used nut from ports collection but I'm unable to detect the UPS by USB cable.
Here is the output of 'usbconfig -u 4 -a 2 dump_device_desc' :
