Hi Shahnawaz
Have you considered how you are going to address location issue for Mobile
users calling 911. You should think of SS7 MAP/TCAP to atleast know their

Little confused about Caller ID
OK here it goes..
Caller ID is two parts or actually three:
Part 1 Number only
Part 2 Number + Name
Part 3 Whole lotta stuff (also known as ADSI)
Here is the US, I cannot speak for other countries.
When party A places a call to Party B. Party A's Telco picks up the
number, either from a table on the switch or passed from the PRI from
Party A. Then on the far side (Party B's Telco)

PSTN to SIP line ratio
Hi,
I am planning to deploy an Asterisk PBX for 100-200 users. I am not
sure about PSTN incoming/outgoing line ratio for SIP users. I mean if
you recall dial up internet the common line ratio is 1:10 (one line
for 10 users on access server or an E1 for 300 users). Can somebody
tell me what is the good ratio for incoming and outgoing analogue/
digital PSTN lines.

how to separate individual logs?
Dear All
I have captured a file in my centos showing logs captured from many
modules concurrently. Please find attached a sample of the file. As
you see, there are logs from individual modules that have been
captured concurrently. For example, there are logs from
IPTR,SNMP,HLR,TCAP,XAPP,and SCCP modules but they are coming
concurrently. Each log has the header name of its accompanied module in

Priority based softhangup
Hi,
Is it possible to softhangup a channel based on priority. I mean I
want to put some calls in higher priority lets say 100. If all
channels are busy and somebody wants to dial an extension with
priority higher than 100. How can softhangup drop a line which has
priority less than 100? I will appreciate your valuable help.
Thanks

Location with PRI / Analog lines
Hi there,
I am stuck with the location issues. It would be easy if you have DID
for each extension so that outgoing caller id would be DID of the
respective extension and also physical address. Now if you are not
able to get DID's for some reason. I am thinking of some situations
and appreciate your thoughts.
1. If I have a PRI and map physical number (original numbers in hunt
group not the

DSS1 vs SS7
Hi,
I am requesting for a E1 connection from my telco. They are asking if I
want DSS1 or SS7, and I am stuck here. Could someone tell me the difference
between the two? How should I decide which one to use?
Thanks in advance for your help.

911 emergency service and VoIP
I understand that most VoIP providers allow for 911 calling but that 911
service is not the same as that available to PSTN.

UK issue - Asterisk dialling 999... sort of
Hello
This is a fun one for the list...
Twice now, the Police have contacted us to say they have had a silent
call then hangup from our landline number to the 999 service. As a
matter of course, they follow up these calls in case someone is in
distress. Nobody here was in distress - well, no more than normal! The
Police aren't hugely happy when we tell them it must be a mistake.

911, networks of * servers, etc. (was: VOIP Dialtone?)
OK, that "VOIP dialtone?" thread was getting really out of hand, so
I'll condense my answers into one big ugly message:
1) 911 service. Yes, that is one of three reasons to keep your PSTN
line. The other two reasons are: Inbound calls from local callers
still should work on a POTS line, for now. You can't find VOIP
providers in most area codes, so you'll most

asterisk behind nat
I'm running asterisk on a Freebsd with 2 Nic's.
Inside NIC is 192.168.5.x where the phones are.
Outside NIC used to be a public IP with the ISP's device set to
bridging, but the new WiMAX router only offers me the public ip
94.18.x.x on the outside,
and forwarding everything to 192.168.1.50 on the "Outside NIC"
Some of the phones are being disconnected with Asterisk

User on PC?
I'm looking for a way for linux to query a pc if user X is on, and has
used the pc recently or the screensaver is not active.
If so, I'll route a call for user X to the phone near that PC.
Ideas, anyone?
