Looking for a good lightweight Linux softPhone
I used to use IDEFISK, but since it was taken over/renamed into Zoiper
it's been really hard work - now I'm told that they won't support my
chosen distribution - Debian Etch - the current stable version of Debian I
prefer.
So, looking to dump Zoiper and go with something else - I want something
light-weigh (So that rules out Ekiga - and Zoiper was going down the
bloatware route

FXS Help Needed...
Hello All,
I have a need to connect an analog device to an asterisk server. The analog device has 4 analog lines going into it (it?s a fax solution). The fax solution answers the analog call, then listens for dtmf. The dtmf code that is played tells the fax device what email address to send the fax to. All calls on our system come into the server through a PRI. The faxes come in over a PRI,

Attempt to Originate between IAX2/xxxx and an application hangs until timeout in 1.8.8.1
I am investigating an issue with IAX2 extensions in Asterisk 1.8.x. My application connects to Asterisk via AMI and attempts to run an Originate command between an extension (such as SIP/5555 or IAX2/8888) and an application (in my case it is AgentLogin).
This works correctly for SIP extensions, in all Asterisk versions. With IAX2 extensions, this worked correctly in Asterisk 1.6.2.20, but

IAX complaints? What are they?
Hi,
We all know what the principal advantage of IAX is, doing it all on a
single port, right? But now and again I hear complaints about it. What
specific griefs have you had with IAX and has it stopped you from
using it entirely? Under what conditions have you had problems?
I have used SIP and IAX for about three years now. We don't do a lot
of traffic, but I haven't really seen a

[IAX] Up-to-date list of soft- and hardphones?
Hello
There's a lot of information on VoIP at www.voip-info.org ...
but there's also a lot of outdated information there as well :-/
Since SIP is a pain to use when NAT is involved, especially when both
the Asterisk server and the remote phones are behind NAT... I'd like
to try IAX to see how it works and if it solves the issue.
I'd like to start with a softphone (Windows

say Asterisk to answer
Hi list,
I have 2 softphones, 1 Idefisk (IAX), 1 Xlite (SIP) registered to Asterisk.
One call the other-one, is it possible to order Asterisk to force answering
the call ? i.e. Xlite call Idefisk, Idefisk is ringing, I send a command to
Asterisk which force answer, so Idefisk answer the call without clicking on
"Accept" button.

Cubix Softphone + Asterisk 1.2.6
I've tried Idefisk and Cubix Softphones, and they both work fine, except
for two issues:
1. Idefisk seems to have a longer delay between the time I can hit
tones, and
2. Cubix, while can send DTMF faster, never actually connects to an
Asterisk-dialed call -- I can't hear the party who answers.
#2 has been asked but unanswered here:

[Softphones] ZoIPer vs. XLite?
Hello
I need to hook up someone's remote PC onto our Asterisk server over
the Net. There are firewalls on each side, so I figured it's time to
give IAX a try, and see if it's less of a pain to use than SIP. And
since IAX hardphones are pretty are, I guess I'll go softphone.
Apparently, the two most well-known IAX and SIP clients for Windows
are ZoIPer and X-Lite, respectively.

UK experts only. BT Outgoing caller ID not showing
Hi
Just moved offices in the UK and moved our Asterisk box from old one to new
one. Using idefisk softphones, Junghanns quadbri card for ISDN 2e interfaces.
At both offices we had one standard number and a DDI range, routed with
Asterisk.
We'd set up the configuration so each idefisk set its own caller ID which then
got sent by the extensions.conf script. Worked fine at old place but in
