fake security descriptor (PC Verifier install)
Hello, I am attempting to install 'PC Verifier' for credit card processing. (I'm tired of having to boot into windows.) I've searched the archives and found mention of this error, but wasn't able to find a fix or solution. What is a 'fake SECURITY_DESCRIPTOR'? Is there a way to correct it? Here is the output from an installation attempt: wine /media/PCv1.75/setup.exe

Eg. validate_nt_acl_blob()

Bug in file.access on Windows when using network shares
Dear Nick, thank you for your report. In general one cannot know reliably in advance whether reading a file will work, if nothing else, there are possible race conditions with other applications and/or the system (e.g. a service may lock the file, move it away temporarily, etc). The only correct way to handle errors is try the read and catch errors. Please note there is a disclaimer in

MDL ISIS Draw 2.5 + AutoNom2000 in WINE = need help
Hello, I have successfully installed MDL ISIS Draw 2.5 (a program used in chemistry) under Wine (0.9.12 in Debian). Now, I need to install an addon (AutoNom2000, which is used to give IUPAC names of compounds) for this program. (This addon requires Windows 2000/XP; Wine was configured to "mimic" Windows 98 by default). When I try to run its installer, I get the following:

Update 4.10.2 to 4.10.4: Cant create files in subdirectorie anymore
Hi everyone, since i upgraded from 4.10.2 to 4.10.4 i can't write into subdirectories of a share anymore. This worked perfectly fine before i upgraded and also works again if i downgrade.? I think either something is fishy with the 'filename_convert_internal' function of ".../source3/smbd/filename.c" or my configuration needs to be adjusted for 4.10.4. I tried several

Bug in file.access on Windows when using network shares
Dear Tomas, Thanks for your email. This can be easily reproduced if there is access to a shared folder. I've reproduced this behaviour on both Windows 7 and Windows 10. Steps to reproduce: 1. Ensure Offline Files is turned on within Windows 2. Using Windows Explorer, browse to a folder shared on a network using a UNC path, e.g. \\mypc\myshare\ 3. Create a test file, e.g. test.txt 4. Bug in file.access on Windows when using network shares
Dear R-Devel, I've run into an issue with a package (vcfR) that uses file.access to check a file is readable before opening it. The issue is actually in base R though. I've looked into the package code, and it calls file.access(path, mode = 4). I've created a minimal working example of the code in winAccessW from src/gnuwin32/extra.c, and the problem arises when GetFileSecurityW is

LDAP permissions - ldbedit/ldapmodify?
The story gets deeper, also.. (nothing is ever easy, right? :-)) Using the ldbsearch command above, I could at least view the SIDs that have access to the OU. One of them should be a group called "mysecretou Managers"; I can see from ADUC that my user is indeed still a member of this group (so far, so good). However, "wbinfo -s S-1-5-21-000000000-1111111111-2222222222-1234"

'Windows' path using GetFullPathName() -- code below. My question is how best to do the opposite -- not necessarily from a 'Windows' program. Ex., given a path such as 'C:\PRETEST\GEM01494\GEM01494.RTF', how do I get '/home/justin/.cxoffice/dotwine/fake_windows/pretest/GEM01494/GEM01494.rtf'? I currently have a 'solution' using a lookup table {
