Asterisk distributed deployment
Hello all, I post this issue thinking too that could help other people on an asterisk deployment over distributed offices considering both quality, prices, devices and so. Well, i am working on a deployment of a telephony system based in asterisk. My company have a central office with seven remote offices connected all through a VPN. To reduce and evaluate costs i consider solutions like:

Re: Asterisk-Users digest, Vol 1 #1835 - 12 msgs
Thanks Brian, and thanks again for the included definitions <grin> - that helped too. Your comments are really helping clear many questions. I suppose our intensions are to become an IXC. So if my local carrier is sporting old technology, they'll provide TDM services. So if I understood you correctly, the "in-band signaling" is typically SS7, and the alternative is typically

PBX appliances
Hi List, Does anyone have experiences to relate on the various Asterisk-based PBX appliances out there? Like the Aastra 160, Digium S844i, etc. Do the Epygi Quadro and Grandstream GXE also use Asterisk? Thanks, Femi -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

SS7 signaling/Softswitch
I'm confused a bit about the following and was hoping to get some answers on this group - What is exactly implied when we say asterisk can connect to a PSTN. Does it mean connecting to the PSTN via PRI/T1/E1? If yes, then I assume asterisk does not need to do any SS7 signaling and all it does (playing the role of a PBX) is to connect to a Class 5 Switch at the CO. Is this a correct statement?

Need Advice
I need to place a SIP FXO gateway in Central America. I've been looking at Quintum products, but the prices are about $150/FXO port. I have a Dell SC400 on the shelf, and I'm considering just installing Asterisk and two TDM04B cards and shipping it down. Does anyone have multiple TDM cards in the SC400? FXO ports on a TDM card are about $75/FXO port. With the Dell, there will be

Incoming calls through SS7 for data modem transmissions - possible??
Hello, We are working on implementing a solution for a medium service provider. They were previously using a Cisco AS5300 gateway with some PRI trunks to receive modem calls, then route them out the Internet. The Telco they were buying the trunks to discovered this configuration and restricted them due to legal conventions, and stated that in order to continue doing this, they would have to talk

SIP configuration issues
Apologies if this is a repeat: I trawled through the archives and couldn't find a reasonable answer, so I'm asking here. I have an Asterisk install connecting from behind a NAT device (DSL modem) to a SIP proxy (in my case, Broadvoice). I have an sjphone softphone on a Windows PC also behind the NAT device that connects to the Asterisk install, and using this setup I've been pretty

OT: DS3 -> VoIP Hardware Recommendations
Hello all, We are looking for some hardware requirements/recommendations to be able to handle a full DS3's worth of TDM -> VoIP traffic. The DS3 would bring 24 calls per T1 x 28 T1s = 672 simultaneous calls. We would then need to convert those calls into G729 SIP VoIP calls to send to our asterisk box over ethernet. Since everything is going in/out of asterisk is 729, and no features

ISDN/SS7 book?
hi some time ago, I asked the list of a good book for learning ISDN and SS7. I don't need to know how to write a channel driver or something; I just want to know more about the possibilities and what's really sent back and forth. I was told the book "ISDN and SS7: Architectures for Digital Signaling Networks" by Uyless Black (ISBN 0132591936) was a good choice, but this

Follow Me CID
Hi, We have recently implemented asterisk as the office PBX, and as a GUI, we chose Elastix. All seems quite easy and am very pleased with the way Asterisk is running and handling calls. To summarize briefly, our setup looks like this: LAN -> Asterisk PBX (Elastix) -> Asterisk TDM (basic CLI with libSS7) We get a whole 3 digit number series from our telco. So, like, +1 312 765 7xxx

What Media Gateway (connected via SS7) do you use
Hello on Behalf Of idont know, Sangoma has a Media Gateway solution via SS7. They I believe are the only ones capable of connecting Asterisk via SS7. You may want to check them out. Softswitch
Pardon my ignorance, but I was hoping someone could clear up something for me. - For a few POTS lines, digium has a single port card for that, or a T1 card to a channel bank. - For 10 or more lines, digium has a T1 or E1 card for that too based on PRI channels - For 100's to 1000's of lines, I suspect a soft-switch is in order??? A traditional phone company will sell: - POTS lines for

pri gateways and asterisk
Hi all, I am planning to use VoIP gateways to connect remote offices to Asterisk. Not having much experience with these and Asterisk I would appreciate any info/experience that you might share with me as to their interoperability with Asterisk. I am interested with in rather bigger gateways (order of E1's) from: AudioCodes - Mediant Mediatrix - 1531 Quintum tenor Multupath D3000 Has anyone

Question about SS7
Hi, I have read about SS7 recently and learnt that it is a signalling protocol used in PSTN for call management, setup, etc. The thing that I don't understand is how SS7 plays a role in VOIP. When I make calls between landline and Asterisk via PSTN, I don't need to do anything with SS7. Is it because the SS7 signalling is already done by Asterisk already? From the prespective of

SIP-T Support (I got my head in an SS7 cloud)
Hey All, I'm just daydreaming here.. but what's the status of SIP-T in Asterisk? I haven't been able to find a whole lot of info on SIP-T but seems like just an extension of SIP. Right? Now if I had a PSTN Gateway (that is a SS7 gateway) that supported SIP-T, could I signal * with SIP-T from it and have asterisk utilize MGCP to sieze a particular DS0 on a remote DS1? Hmm.. What am
