Connecting to Newsgroup

AW: Newsgroup - another try?
| I can think of two disadvantages of a newsgroup | | 1) Access | Everyone with an email address can sub_scribe to the R mailing lists. | However, not everyone has a news feed. I don't. Everyone who has access to the internet can also have a news-account. There are a lot of good free news-servers (most of the time hosted by universities), and on the client-site you can often use your

OT: list format vs newsgroup format
Arrrrgh I hate trying to sift through all these messages and keep track of the various threads going on ......... Who else on here prefers the newsgroup/threaded approach? If you haven't already, check out news.gmane.org for mailing lists turned into newsgroups readable by news readers....... only problem being that this list requires list membership before

R-help in a newsgroup
Hi, I find a lot of the R-help email traffic overloads my inbox. My IT managers are not really happy for me to be subscribed to several high-traffic email lists. I don't want to lose my contact with the R-help emails, so I'm having to consider various ways of handling the traffic. Anyhow, I'm wondering how many people on the R-help email list would prefer that most of the traffic

Newsgroup - another try?
As nobody seems to answer my request, I simply post it again. Is there any reason why the r-help-mailinglist should not be converted to a newsgroup? These were the advantages of a newsgroup I mentioned earlier: -) you can easily search the archives -) the discussion is faster (I experience that the R-mailinglist has a lag of about 1 to 2 hours (not for everyone!!!). When I ask a question, I get

S: expert mailing list for general statistical questions
Hello R users and experts Once in a while I have got questions that are not so much R-related but related to (social scientific) statistics in general. R-help would be the wrong list for such posts, and I am looking for a similar mailing list or newsgroup (nntp). (It is just a personal taste that I don't like web forums.) I have googled and found a variety here:

vast quantity of samba messages on comp.os.linux.networking
i thought i'd review some of the newsgroups to see if there were any samba related questions. i've been on it for half an hour now, on _one_ newsgroup (comp.os.linux.networking) - approx 20/25 out of 1841. if anyone follows newsgroups for fun, answering questions, then can i ask you the small favour of occasionally also randomly reviewing this and other suitable newsgroups

Newsgroup
This morning I had 37 messages from the r-help list in my mailbox. I think its becoming excessive for an e-mail list. I wonder if whoever looks after this list could either move or gateway it to a usenet group? That would also eliminate the need for special purpose archiving and searching facilities since the site: http://groups.google.com would automatically provide that. That site also

Wine-users mail storm - long explanation
Hi All, >>>Clarification: I'm getting a flood of wine-users emails. Yes, I'm seeing this too. I spent all day today trying to understand why this is happening, and failed, but I think I have just now figured it out. As far as I can tell, the flood of messages are all the messages that were posted to the newsgroup since the last time the newsgroup and wine-users mailman list
