Codec negotiation for Thomson ST2030 and g729
Hi all,
i'm trouble with codec setup on an asterisk machine 1.4.18 and some
Thomson ST2030 as extensions.
In the users.conf file for internal extension i have:
disallow=all
allow=g729
allow=alaw
allow=ulaw
Without any codec installed (i mean with original g729 of asterisk)
all go fine, calling from an extension to one other:

Digium G729 licence unattended install
Hi,
One of the key features of Asterisk is that we can install it on many
hardware platforms.
We've done our best to script this installation process, so that, in case of
hardware failure, we can re-install Asterisk on another platform.
The question I have is how can we adapt our process so that Digium's G729
licences (or other licenced software) could be installed without asking too

G729 Commercial Licenses.
Hi all,
I have purchased 2 licenses of G729 from digium and has done the
registration. It works well and is quite fine with my Asterisk@Home. Just
want to clarify some licensing issues regarding them.
If i had to do a full reformat of my PC and reload a@h again will i be able
to use the licenses again without re-registration?
If no. .Is there are limits for this?
Please anyone clarify.
Thanks

G729 Transcoding problems
Hi
I've bought the Digium g729 codec and have installed it correctly (I think)
>> voip*CLI> show g729
>> 0/0 encoders/decoders of 3 licensed channels are currently in use
if I do an echo test either from a sip Cisco 7960 or another hard phone (unbranded)
using g729 it sometimes works and sometimes the announcement about the
test (echo-test.gsm) fails part way though but the

Licensing issues with MS Domain
I read many posts from the archives but could not find the answer to my
question. So here goes:
I need to run a Samba installation on a RH9 Linux server. I have done such
installation before and was succesful at it. Our main network is W2K based
and users all have accounts in the domain. With great difficulties, I
convinced the MS Net Admin to create an entry for my Samba server in the

Zap channel(s), meetme and codecs/licences
Hi all,
Some simple questions about codecs:
What codec does the Zap channel use by default?
Can this default be changed, and to what? (g729 too?)
What codec does meetme use? (I think this is ulaw, but asking to be sure)
Can you use another codec, or does everything have to be transcoded to ulaw?
Finally ... if I have a 3way call going, between 1 g729 caller and two
other callers, do I need one

g729 setup help
Hi
I am trying to make this setup work
phone1---g729---asterisk1---sip---asterisk2---g729---phone2
I have tried several configurations but none worked
I keep getting transcoding errors
I have installed one g729 licence on each asterisk, but I can't verifiy
because the show g729 command is not available,
I use 1.2.17
Do I need 2 g729 licences per asterisk ?
Do I need to register

Asterisk 3rd party developed commercial software sales licensing platform
I think it's time to 'ping' John Todd and Digium on this topic again.
What happened Digium?
Why did you say you were going to take this project on but have not come
back to the community with an answer yet?

Codec Selection
Hi,
I have 2 g729 licences - what I want to do is use g729 by default but if
I get more than 2 calls at a time, use gsm for the others.
So, I put this on all my sip providers:
disallow=all
allow=g729
allow=gsm
However, this just seems to use gsm for everything. If I comment out the
gsm line, it then uses g729.
I thought it would use the codec's in the order they are allowed - is

G729 Licensing Revisited - I'm Sorry!
Hello Everyone,
We are looking to transition our 23 channels from testing/lab into
production. During testing we used the free open source g729 license
using the instructions found here:
http://blog.manhag.org/2010/05/installing-the-free-g729-codec-for-asterisk/
A little more about our setup. All recordings have been converted to
G729, all voicemail messages are also in G729, finally

OH323 and codec selection
I'm having a small issue with the oh323 implementation when it comes to
codec selection.
Version info:

OpenPhone for windows version 1.8.1
Asterisk is configured as a h323 endpoint which either terminates to the
PSTN locally through a PRI or terminates the h323 call to an IAX provider
remotely. Asterisk also has G729 licences installed.

Cisco 7941 localized menus with SIP firmware
Hi,
Has anyone met any success, installing localized (ie non-english) menus
within SIP firmware enabled Cisco 7941 ?
Those phones seem to be trying to download localized menus from Cisco Call
Manager but as they are managed by an Asterisk server, I'm looking for a
workaround.
Any advice ?

Digium G729 licensing - is it worth the trouble?
I have been impressed with the quality and meagre bandwidth of the G729
codec from Digium. I am in a testing phase of our roll out, we are using 5
Asterisk PBXs in various countries to provide connectivity for our
employees, owners and family. As we are testing, and our setup is somewhat
complex due to the peculiarities of our connectivity, there has had to be a
lot of changes to servers, cards to

g729 quality at GSM bitrates
Greetings all,
I'm trying to improve the codec selection on a few of the asterisk boxes we
have to keep the g729 licences free for calls from ATAs that don't support
anything apart from g711 and g729. GSM seems to offer noticably inferior
call quality (at least when using a softphone + decent headphones), but it's
about where I want the bitrate to be.
I know there are lots of Speex

trying to understand OSS, GPL, BSD & other licensing model for software distribution.
Hi all,
We are busy developing some software (some is web based, others not)
and I am having a bit of hard time understanding (or rather, choosing)
a license model to work with, We will offer some free software (PHP
based scripts, and even Windows based applications) and for this I'm
sure the GPL, or even LGPL (for the network side?) will work fine.
But, we also need to suppose these

Asterisk codecs and packet size
Does anybody knows if it's posible or if there is some develoment in
course to be able to use longer transmit packet sizes (as long as I know
this is fixed in 20ms now) with the compressed voip codecs in asterisk
(g729, g726, gsm, etc).
I need to use asterisk to connect remote sip clients with 24kb bandwidth
lines and I'm using a licences g729 codec but because I can't increase
