CID blocking ...
Hey all, when you guys have requests from clients to block their CID from showing through, what are others doing? I had a coworker throw in some "Name Here"<0> garbage which none my carriers like. I don't want to do "Private"<12345678910> so any suggestions. -- ==================================================== J. Oquendo SGFA #579 (FW+VPN v4.1) SGFE

Quick and dirty too hungover to think/search... ;) Sorry list AsteriskBoxA -> SBC/PSTN voodoo -> world wide Interweb -> AsteriskBoxB Account on BoxA UsernameJohn<12125551212> Account on BoxB UsernameJohn<102> They're both the same users, had to do some funky trunking (managed firewall provider is playing not in my backyard games)... VoIP Abuse to Twitter (real time VoIP Abuse)
Apologies for cross posting but some of us aren't on the other list (vice/versa) and thought both groups would benefit. For those familiar with the VoIP Abuse Project, no need to explain the gist of this. I got tired of parsing through the alerts (lists) I receive via email daily. They're long and sometimes I don't have the time to post them all. So for now, posting VoIP Abuse

How to detect fake CallerID? (8xx?)
I have a 'time and attendance' application. Think janitorial or security kind of thing where an employee goes from location to location. They're supposed to 'clock in' when they get to a site using a phone at that site to prove they're there. Some employees have discovered 'fake caller ID' services can be used to say they're on site when they are not. How

Commercial CID spoofing system
FYI. Reading is free; if you don't have an account it is trivial to sign up, and they're very politically correct, as might be imagined, about using email for selling purposes. http://www.nytimes.com/2004/09/02/technology/02caller.html?hp

fraud detection
hello everyone. i am concerned about security to the PBX and i would like to discuss different fraud detection methods. Apart from making everything to secure the PBX (latest patches, iptables, firewalls, no outside users, strongs passwds,...) i would like to find out if there are any fraud detection techniques. As for my setup i do have a PBX running asterisk 11.4 and it has 3 sip trunks (over

Toll fraud detection/password script
So I was bored yesterday and tried solving a few problems with one stone: 1) Notify me of potential brute forcers (multiple attempts to register multiple numbers from one address) 2) Notify me of (l)users who are having password issues So I whipped up a simple script to run in cron and notify me that UserX from X_IP_Space had X amout of password issues. I'm currently running this from cron

New York Times - R - article a fraud?
I worked on some ad data before and I found NYT article very biaised and not far from a fraud... Anyone knows if they got money from a - company - to play 'R'? Check out the title: R U Ready for R? Seems to me this title was stolen from XLSolutions www.xlsolutions-corp.com and they never mentioned XLSolutions in the article! They mentioned commercial R....never mentioned

fraud advice
Hi, Embarrassed as I am to write this, I am hoping for some advice. One of our very first PBX installs, now six years old, was "taken advantage of" over the past few weeks. A victim of sipvicious, I assume, that managed to guess one of the SIP passwords. 4000 calls to various middle eastern destinations have been placed, which ended up being sent over our customer's PSTN

How to deal with PayPal frauds?
I charge my customers through PayPal, but recently faced a fraud which previously had only heard about. Somebody registered a few accounts, paid online with paypal (as my service is only prepaid) and started making expensive long distance calls. In fact the IP registering the accounts was from Florida, and IPs making calls were from Africa. After about 20 minutes the first payment was reversed.

DID/CID doesn't match "." (dot) in CID field
Hi all, using Skype for Asterisk I have the following problem. In my dialplan I need to have a CID matching (example.skype) over a DID (test.skype) : [example] exten => test.skype/example.skype,1, NoOp(nothing) exten => test.skype/example.skype,n, Hangup() Where test.skype and example.skype are Skype business account. In this case, when I get a : CLI> show dialplan example I get: [

AGI Script for CID Rewrite and CID Name lookup
I recently changed to all IAX providers for my DIDs, and none of them offer incoming caller-names. Back in the days when I did have incoming caller names, I found the names provided by the various phone-companies fairly useless -- "WIRELESS CALLER", "YOURCITYHERE" etc. Last Friday I finally set off to roll my own, in order to meet the following requirements: - uniformely
