Which phones are good, or at least acceptable, for home and office
I am looking to replace all of the old "Bell" (POTS) phones in my home and office with IP phones. As you can imagine I don't have a huge budget to work with but I want phones that will provide acceptable voice quality and durability. There are basically three categories as I see it 1. satellite phones (low cost, low function) 2. primary domestic phone (good quality, POE capable,

Extension status as XML for an Aastra 57i
I'm in the process of converting our current hybrid key system to Asterisk and Aastra 57i phones. One of the features that seems to be a show stopper for almost everyone in the office is the inability to see who is on the phone. Can someone point in the right direction to setup an XML app on the phone so they can press a soft-button and get a list of extensions and their statuses? I know I can

Using a sidecar? Ideas?
I'm looking for some ideas of people who have setup a sidecar (eg: Aastra 560M). Obviously it's handy for BLF (to see who's on a call)...but what else? Anyone want to share interesting things they've done with a sidecar? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Best "Console" phone?
I'm looking for recommendations (good/bad!) on what people use for a reception console type of phone. So-far I've used Grandstreams and Snoms, both have good and bad points.. Not after anything too fancy - programmable "extension" buttons would be nice, good display essential... (Brief background, I have a proposition for a 120-extension setup, but it's a managed office

High volume BLF - Suggestions?
Hi, We have a user who is putting large call volumes through Asterisk, and wants to BLF monitor up to 90 extensions. We are struggling to find a handset that can keep up with Asterisk :) 1) Is there a handset that will do this? 2) Is there a different (standard) way to send BLF and allow directed pickups? 2a) Or even a handset specific way? Asterisk handles the BLF volume fine, even on quite

Pinouts for T1/E1 crossover cable WAS "RE: whatcable to connect a legacy PBX to a TE410P ?"
The "telco guys" probably did something non-industry standard and reversed send and receive in the jack that they plugged the CAT5 into. Sure it works, sure it is easier, sure it is not the correct way of doing things. Issue with Asterisk & Aastra 57i at v3.2
I recently tried to update my Aastra 57i to version 3.2 and ran into a problem. It won't properly register and says "contact mismatch". I added "sip contact matching: 2" to aastra.cfg, but that didn't help. When I look at the SIP trace, but I see is the Aastra sending a REGISTER and Asterisk replying with the 401. The phone then sends the REGISTER again, this time

colors in the console
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Up until a few days ago, when accessing the CLI from my terminal program (Private Shell), the output was in color. I haven't upgraded, rebuilt, or to my knowledge, changed anything in Asterisk that would change this. My terminal settings were the same as well. I have two computers that I access the CLI regularly on, and neither show

Music on Hold Problem w/ Transfers
I think I'm missing a change between 1.2 and 1.4. When using 1.4 (so far 1.4.9, 1.4.13, and 1.4.14), music on hold is not working for transfers or parked calls. It does work when putting the call on hold. If I revert back to 1.2.23 using the same config and same music on hold files, it works. I've looked at the sample config files for 1.4 and nothing seems to jump out at me as to what

A little OT but need an opinion on Aastra 57i CT
Hello All, I have a need for a wireless solution and have been looking at the Aastra 57i CT phone that have the wireless handset with them. Aastra says they will cover "up to 300,000 square feet". I am finding this hard to accept. I was also wondering about the "secure WDCT cordless technology" Could this be a form of DECT? Any one using these that can shed some lite?

Receptionists Phone suggestions? (Not Snom370)
Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent receptionists phone? Aastra? Grandstream? Something with (potentially) lots of BLFs, large(ish) screen, headset and most importantly the ability to transfer calls? I've installed five Snom 370s that seemed ideal but my client is very very unhappy as the Snom 370 can't transfer a call correctly if there's another call coming in (details

Aastra phones?
Sorry for being a little off topic, but I'mconsidering a few new phones for my Asterisk installation. I have a mix of Polycom 500/600s and an Aastra 480i CT. I'm considering adding a couple of Aastra 57i or 57i CT. Does anyone here have experience with the 480i CT and the newer 57i CT? I'm curious as to the real differences. Advice on best operator phone (with attendant console)
One of our clients is using a Grandstream GXP2000 with an attendant console. We have used the same phone with past clients successfully however this particular operator processes around 200 calls a hours and the GXP2000 for sure does not like the quick line shuffling and call volume. We get the following problems randomly: 1. menu stops working 2. transfer key stops working 3. Line 1 LED gets

Why doesn't Pickup() work??
Hi, I'm using an Aastra 57i together with Asterisk 1.4.13. The 57i is configured for call pickup as recommended by Aastra. When the LED flashes, I press the corresponding button and the display tells me "Call not possible". In the CLI is see the follwoing output. Why isn't the call transfered to user2 and what does "No target channel found for 31 mean"? User2 can

Stopping putgoing calls after working hours
Dear All, I am trying to find a way to stop people who use phones after business hours (a policy the company wants to implement), we have cisco 7940 and 7910 phones and sadly they don't have a phone lock password system (on these ciscos it locks config menu changes but not the calls but the cisco 7920 has this feauture). So I was wondering is there a way to make this happen in asterisk??

Problem between Asterisk and an Aastra 57i
Hi, I'm currently trying to connect an Aastra 57i to our Asterisk Server. The strange thing is, that altough I have definitely entered the correct IP address of the server, the phone doesn't even attempt to register. Here is the configuration file (local.cfg) of the phone: firmware md5: dee6e938b469e217a87138076f47fe41 boot count: 1 tone set: Germany language 1: German time server1:

Aastra phones and park/pickup feature
We are installing Aastra phones (480's and 57i's) into a fairly simple asterisk setup. Although call park & pickup work fine using xfer to 700 (to park), dial 701 (to pickup), we are unable to make the park/pickup softkey feature work on the aastra's. Although we've programmed the softkeys per the manuals, they seem to have no effect (just dead). For example, our 57i is

Off Topic: Aastra BLF limit...
Hi. Does anyone have a patch or workaround for the 50 BLF limit of Aastra phones? I have a couple 57i with the 560M console and only the first 50 BLF lines get registered. I am using the latest firmware from Aastra but I read that this limit was imposed because of a memory leak. Obviously my customer is complaining about these last 10 lines not showing their status. -- Telecomunicaciones

BLF with Aastra
I have a 536i expansion module attached to a 57i-CT. The BLF lights on the 536i will light up and work fine for a while... however after a bit they seem to loose their ability to see if someone is on a phone. They still work to dial, if I try to dial, however, they don't light up when someone makes a call, or if their phone rings. If I reboot the phone, the lights start working again

Call Manager as trunk
I have Asterisk 1.4 tied via SIP to a Cisco Callmanager 6.1 system. Calls between the systems (ie. extension to extension) work perfectly. However when I attempt to make an outside call from an Asterisk extension through Call Manager to the outside world, it connects but only for a few seconds, and on the Asterisk console I get: Got SIP response 503 "Service Unavailable" back from (ip
