Polycom 501 power over ethernet
When I bought two Polycom 501 SIP phones, I naively thought they were Power-over-Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af) because they were "powered over ethernet." Silly me. Polycom must have some odd voltage or funny way of injecting the power, because the POE switch I bought for them (Netgear F@510P) won't power them, though if I use the Polycom-supplied AC adapter and ethernet power

cisco poe
I know this is on the wiki, I just want to confirm so I don't blow up my cisco phones. I've got several cisco 7940's all running using cisco power cubes. However, my boss wants me to switch just a few over to poe, but doesn't want to fork out the dough for a nice cisco poe switch, or anybody else's poe switch for that matter. So my question is, what is the '99.999%

Cheap PoE switches/injectors?
I'm trying to spec out hardware for a new office, and I'd like to include power over Ethernet as an option. I've seen a handful of PoE injectors around $1000 for 24 ports and a couple switches up around $2500 for 24 ports. Are there any cheaper options, short of buying a boatload of 1-port injectors off of ebay? I don't really need more then 24 ports of PoE out of 48 total

Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch recommendations
Hi listers, I am looking for people who have used Power over Ethernet switches, primarily in conjunction with Polycom IP 501's. I've been looking at the Linksys SRW224P, since I've had good luck with the SRW224 in our office. However, Nortel, Cisco, Adtran, etc. all have an offering, all of which vary in price. I would appreciate any input people have to offer. Thanks, James

OT: cisco 7960G powered by 3com 3CNJPSE
Is anyone using a 3com 3CNJPSE to power a 7960G? I have a couple of 7960Gs and 3CNJPSEs but no combination appears to work. Both phones work fine with a cisco power cube. I get a 47.6V reading across pins 5 and 8 on the patch cable coming from the 3CNJPSE. The network still works through the 3CNJPSE, just no power to the phone until I connect the power cube. Using two straight through wired

Linksys SRW224P POE Switch
We are currently considering the Linksys POE switch for a small Asterisk office deployment. There will be no separate wiring closet to put it in. Can anybody tell me if this switch has a loud fan? Users would not be able to tolerate a loud noise close by. Otherwise we will go with a fanless desktop switch. Thanks, -- Andres

D-LINK PoE switch, does it work with cisco or do I need to do the cable trick?
As an alternative to the "expensive" PoE switches out there, I found the D-Link Web Smart DES-1316 switch for just around $400. Now, the issue is, it does 802.3af power and, as I've found out through previous discussions, this original 76?0 series phones (the non G variety) do not use 802.3af. So I'm assuming I just need to use the special cable thing as per

Sipura 841 delayed: other PoE options?
I -think- that the Sipura 841 was PoE... and I'd been anxious to find out. However, according to Atacomm.com, it's been delayed until mid-January. *sigh* So: does anyone know of a (decent) phone that meets the following criteria, and isn't too expensive? - SIP - two (or more) lines - some form of TCP/IP-based configuration - 802.3af (power-over-ethernet) - 100 Mbit passthrough (not

Cisco 7940/60 and 802.3af PoE
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Are any versions of the Cisco 7940/7960 or 7940G/7960G phones compatible with the 802.4af Power over Ethernet Standard? Ok, I know the question has been asked before, but googling has turned up several contradictory results: 1/ No - not at all 2/ Maybe - 79XXG will work 3/ With a special cable/dongle (a la wikki) I am looking at getting

POE hub
I need to connect up to sixteen phones per building, I can use a cheap hub, but POE would be useful. Is there a cheap POE hub available? Everything I have seen has been expensive. Chris Mason

Polycom 600 phone
>From their website, the key difference between the polycom 500 and 600 phones is the number of "lines" they support. What does this mean in terms of asterisk? Do I have to have a seperate extension for each of these lines or ? Also, slightly off-topic, how does the 500 POE "optional" cable work? Is this similar to have a power box on your desk, or is just a differently

Polycom 601 question
Hey everyone, I know this isn't a direct Asterisk issue, but some of you may know this answer. I recently upgraded the SIP version to 1.6.6 on all of our phones in the office. Everything is working fine, except one aspect. The phones in the office reboot randomly for no apparent reason. I haven't changed anything in the configuration files since the upgrade. The only setting in the

Wildcard TDM400P (TDM40B) connectors
Hi, I'm no phone guy but I've been having quite a bit of fun messing with Asterisk. I just unwrapped my new Wildcard TDM400P (TDM40B) which is the new 4 port FXS PCI card. It has 4 RJ45 connectors and I'd like to hookup 4 regular phones which are RJ11. If I crip RJ45 connectors to the phone cords do I simple use the center two pins (pins 4 and 5)? Thanks, Randy Smith Tiger

Recommendations for QoS, PoE Switches
Hi all, For a top quality setup, I will need to install high quality VoIP switches with QoS and PoE. My potential customer should not have any problem with call quality. Experienced folks, Please advice me what switches to install and at what price. I may need it for upto 100 phones. What else should I consider so that phones work without problem along with the computers on the same network?

Slightly OT: SNOM & PoE
Hello All, I apologize for the slightly off-topic question, but I'm sure that the people best acquainted with the issue would be hanging around here. We recently deployed several Linksys POE switches for some smaller customers (10-24 station) and appear to be suffering from intermittent lock-ups of the SNOM phones attached. Obviously we are running Asterisk for the gateway, but I was

Power Over Ethernet for *any* ethernet switch (or hub); product idea
Based on several threads I've read on this list, I assume that it would be handy to supply POE (power over ethernet) in an environment without having to purchase POE switches (assumed expensive) and abandon one's existing (familiar/custom/not-yet-expensed/etc.) switches/hubs. Assume I have a non-POE switch with 24 RJ-45 (ethernet) ports. I design a 1U box that can be mounted just

Quiet 24 port POE gig switch
A little off topic but.... I need to put a 24 port Gig PoE switch into a small office - no computer room / rack etc. All CAT5 terminates near the owners desk (smart huh?). I want to put a PoE switch in place, with 24 ports and Gig speed. Everyone I've researched so far is LOUD... Anyone know of a quiet one? Thanks -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment

Cisco phones and Linksys SRW224P
I'm having problem powering Cisco phone's (7940 and 7905) on Linksys SRW224P switch (with PoE functionality). I have tested three phone's, one is working (7905) and two aren't (7905 and 7940). I have plugged all three phones on same switch port with same cable! Do I need to change anything in phone configuration? Is there something wrong with Linksys switch? How can I troubleshoot
