WebRTC as Softphone substitute ?
Hello,
This morning, I asked myself if WebRTC could be a viable alternative to
softphone deployment.
For me, main issue with Softphones is the amount of work needed for
installation and configuration.
Also, Softphones must be carefully choosen if Deskphone-like quality is
expected.
Now that WebRTC becomes ubiquitous, it might make sense to trade Softphone
features (call history, BLF, ...) for

WebRTC as Softphone substitute ?
Hi Olivior,
We have recently worked on a WebRTC based agent panel. As based on my
experience I think that WebRTC based phones are far better and cheaper then
those soft / sip phone. the big plus is that they are easy to customize and
developer can use the power of browser and web to build / offer features
which are not possible with regular phones.
Regarding your concern about BLF or call

WebRTC as Softphone substitute ?
@Olivior
I agree that seting up WebRTC is hard, however when done it is smooth to
use. For replication you can build RPMs with working configurations.
Regarding stability, it is not being used widly, so can't say it is mature.
However we have no complain so far regarding audio or connectivity.
sometime we provide support for "allow media / mic" type issues, but you

Able to tell if phone is registered?
Hi All,
I have a new asterisk setup running at home and am very happy with it.
One thing that I am trying to do is to take various actions in the
dialplan *if* a particular phone is registered/authenticated/connected.
For example, if someone dials *me* and is shows that I am connected via
my softphone, to try it instead of my deskphone (and possibly notifiy
the user in advance that it is

Softphone behind NAT issues
We are trying to use a softphone from a location that is behind a
firewall. We are using x-lite as the softphone.
So far, we've been able to get the phone to register with the asterisk
server, and it can receive voice from the asterisk server (IE,
voicemail, etc).
However, asterisk can't hear anything from the softphone. We have used 2
different machines to test this on. We are watching

Softphone recommendation
Hi Folks,
Had a quick search through the archives for softphones and cannot see any
recommended ones.
My question is what recommended free softphones are out there that can be
used with Asterix? I don't really know how many are out there. Is anyone
currently using a softphone with Asterix and if so which one and how do you
find it?
I'm only interested in ones that I can download and use

X-Lite Softphone
Hey Everyone,
I downloaded and installed the X-Lite softphone the other day (the lite
version) and cannot seem to get it to work well.
Don't get me wrong, it registers with my asterisk server and everything
seems to work well, except the call quality really is horrible.
I thought it may be the place I was trying it at (DSL) so I took it to
the office and tried it right next to the asterisk

multiple softphone clients and same/different account credentials
(I'm new to Asterisk, after having started VOIP with vat on the mbone in
the 90s.)
I am setting up my first Asterisk system, and trying to read
docs/guidance and follow best practices. I have read the 5th Edition of
"Asterisk: The Definitive Guide" and like the 3rd Edition on the web it
recommends that hardphones and softphones both have a unique name

softphone has problem to call out via X100P card
Hi all,
I have the Asterisk set up and 2 softphone (Xlite) set up on two other PC.
With the following configuration, I can use one softphone (2000) to call the
other one (2001) and/or the voicemail at 2999.
Here is my problem:
1. When I dial 9+nxxx-xxxx with one of the softphone to the PSTN via
X100P card, I got busy tone. (i.e. I want to use the phone line which is

softphone headsets
Anybody have a suggestion for a nice inexpensive headset for mobile
users on a laptop with a softphone?
What are people using for softphones on M$ platforms? I have been using
the x-lite client. Is there something better out there?

Snom 190's vs Softphone
I have been playing with asterisk for a couple of weeks now and I
have been very happy with its performance. However, I have run into a
problem with how I want to deploy this solution.
I have a mix of softphones (SJ and Xlite), ATA's, and a couple of IP
phones (Snom 190). The asterisk box is on the public network. For my
primary users they will reside behind a watchguard 4500 firewall.

Softphone for Linux desktops
Hi all,
We are successfuly running an Asterisk server with standard SIP hard
phones and it is working well. We are looking to deploy some soft
phones on our Linux desktops. There seems to be several floating
about. Anyone out there with some good/bad experiences with particular
Linux softphones. We only need g711 and prefer IAX but a SIP one will
do....
Thanks....

Best USB Handset and Softphone Combination
I have a client that want to try the softphone with USB handsets route
to see if hardphones will even be needed. I always push for hardphones
(Polycom) so I am not sure about softphones or USB handsets.
This is going to be for a 300+ seat call center onsite and many offsite,
I plan on using OpenVPN for the offsite machines.
Any advice on softphones, handsets, or practical experience with
