Hello, I need a hand in choosing a small ATA, even with one FXS port, that should do only fax with T38. I've tried Grandstream (ht286 model) but the faxes go out without ECM, even if the Fax machine has ECM enabled. Is there anyone that can recommend an ATA that might do the trick? What are your experiences with faxing through Asterisk to the PSTN? We are using g.711u as a codec, and are originating/terminating with Broadvox as well as through our own PSTN gateways. We have had some luck with incoming faxes coming into our network from Broadvox DIDs. They work 50% of the time. Not sure yet on PSTN incoming since nobody that is using FAX is in our local rate centers.

My boss is insisting we support fax, and I keep telling him that Fax over IP is very unreliable and not recommended and his immediate come-back is "Vonage does it." and it's very hard to figure out how. I don't think Vonage does T.38, the Linksys/Sipura units they're using doesn't support T.38 to my knowledge. That means they have to be using G.711Ulaw to send faxes.

Hello, I tried the above setups and am having large problems sending and receiving faxes, even in very low speeds (9600 and far below). Faxes are either shifted (i.e. missing lines) or corrupt at all, some faxes do break with communication errors (although CRC-alike algorithms are turned off) or in alot of cases only the upper quarter or 1/8 is transferred. Iam seeking for any idea on how to
