Polycom 501 power over ethernet
When I bought two Polycom 501 SIP phones, I naively thought they were
Power-over-Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af) because they were "powered over
ethernet." Silly me.
Polycom must have some odd voltage or funny way of injecting the
power, because the POE switch I bought for them (Netgear F@510P)
won't power them, though if I use the Polycom-supplied AC adapter and
ethernet power

Polycom 601 question
Hey everyone,
I know this isn't a direct Asterisk issue, but some of you may know this
answer.
I recently upgraded the SIP version to 1.6.6 on all of our phones in the
office. Everything is working fine, except one aspect. The phones in the
office reboot randomly for no apparent reason. I haven't changed
anything in the configuration files since the upgrade. The only setting

MOH too loud
I ripped a rock-and-roll CD for a client's moh. But it's too loud. Is
there a simple way to reduce the gain without having to remix the tracks?
Thanks

GPS-enabled cell phone/PDA
I would like to capture the lat/lon coordinates from a GPS-enabled cell
phone or PDA. Is this possible? Must I subscribe to this information
from the cellphone network provider, or can I capture it without charge?
What devices will broadcast the coordinates? Is there a device that
will broadcast its position inband that can be captured by Asterisk?
Can an SMS message include coordinates?

Outgoing Calls Not Working all the time
I currently have Asterisk 1.2.7.1 and the Sangoma A200 w/ 6 FXO ports and HW
Echo canceller. I have outgoing calling setup to use a group so that if one
channel is busy it goes to one of the other channels. What's weird is that
when I dial an outside number, sometimes it goes through and other times I
get "You have reached an invalid pager number MCLL327." I have no idea what

PAP2 and Asterisk
I have a Linksys PAP2 connected to Asterisk. Have one of the FXS ports
working fine. I am unable to get the other to work. Does anybody have an
example configuration to make both work. Both are registering fine but
there's just no dialtone on the non working port.

Simple setup ...
Hi,
I'm currently looking to run Asterisk in the office to replace an old PBX
and would appreciate a little help. We are moving offices and will have 8
digital lines. My questions are:
As there are 8 digital lines is this known as PRI?
Which Digium card would be the best fit?
Would you recommend looking at the echo cancellation cards?
We are UK based: is caller id supported by Asterisk

PoE - IEEE 802.3af
Hi,
I'm not clear on how to use Power--over-Ethernet, specifically with Polycom
phones.
What I understand, is that by buying the Polycom 501 with the 802.3af cable
bundle, I simply connect my phone, through the Polycom provided "special"
RJ-45 cable, into a PoE capable switch, and voil?!
Is this true? And if so, what happens when the Phone doesn't connect
directly to the

Digium TE205P and channelbank
Trying to find my feet here. If I wanted to connect Asterisk to a PRI and
throw in a T1 Adtran channel bank into the mix for fax machines would the
following work?
Connect PRI line from telco to Port 1 on the Digium Wildcard TE205P.
Connect Adtran TA-624-T1 to Post 2 on the Digium Wildcard TE205P
also, would I need a crossover to the channelbank or is it a patch lead
like the connection to the

Grandstream web configuration utility
I just purchased a Grandstream gxp-2000, budgetone102 and a HT-386.
Browsing to each device by IP address, I can get logged in using admin
and I can see the advanced settings, however, if I try to change the
settings and clicking the Change button, it just brings me back to ask
for the password again..
I can't get into the Status page or any of the Account1-4 pages either.

Hi,
I'm using the Read command the read a DTMF tone.
In this read command I play a voice-file.
But now when I press one off they keys of my telephone the voice-file
will stop playing a the program go the next priority.
Is it possible to play the voice-file until the right DTMF tone is
pressed? (say for instance the Zero).
Kind regards

Hardware
Hi,
I'm looking for IBM hardware to support:
100 SIP hard phone users
10 fax machines on SIP ata's
maybe later an additional 100 sip soft phones.
Initially, all calls will be through PRI.
Some conferencing. Don't know yet if this will even get used.
Using 1.4 + ( probably business edition )
I'm looking for anyone who some experience / gotchas. I've google'd and

Still finding my feet here. I need a server which can take approx 100 sip
users accessing 24 channels through pri. Approx 20 concurrent calls. 6000
calls a month. Are there any "rules of thumb" when it comes to sizing
hardware. I've checked the wiki but nothing close to what I need plus some
of the information is really old now and may not be relevant. Also, what

How to use a data T-1?
Depends what you want to do!
Do you want to do VoIP over that T1 to a provider or IP telephones?
Do you want to hook up to the PSTN through that T1 as 24 voice channels,
through a T1 card on your asterisk?
If you want to use the T1 as 24 voice channels, the Telco is going to
have to re-provision the T1 as a voice T1, because currently, presumably
it is one big channel of data. You could have
