911 emergency service and VoIP
I understand that most VoIP providers allow for 911 calling but that 911 service is not the same as that available to PSTN.

asterisk-users Digest, Vol 66, Issue 75
Hi Shahnawaz Have you considered how you are going to address location issue for Mobile users calling 911. You should think of SS7 MAP/TCAP to atleast know their Cell ID Regards Sam > Thanks very much everybody who contributed their thoughts. Intrado / VoIP E911
Ok, So... we've been looking at Intrado as a solution for national E911. They claim to be able to offer FCC compliant E911 services for VoIP companies. However, as I look into things further, they don't seem to have links to all the PSAPs for E911. Now, I understand if the PSAP is not capable of receiving E911 information, the VoIP provider is under no obligation to provide it.

911, networks of * servers, etc. (was: VOIP Dialtone?)
OK, that "VOIP dialtone?" thread was getting really out of hand, so I'll condense my answers into one big ugly message: 1) 911 service. Yes, that is one of three reasons to keep your PSTN line. The other two reasons are: Inbound calls from local callers still should work on a POTS line, for now. You can't find VOIP providers in most area codes, so you'll most

Re: 911 and lawsuits and redundancy
Hi, Most companies we work with, have 'designated' crisis management teams. These vary from the insignificant crisis', through to life-threatening crisis'. There is always an assigned emergency services contact, whose job it is in an emergency, to maintain communication with the emergency services. One of our corporate functions is crisis management - so we have to consider

911, location
Hi there, I am running a PBX under asterisk 1.6. I have few FXO analogue lines connecting to PSTN. These lines are in a hunt group. I trying to make my extensions to dial 91, but this is a bit scary, I mean if somebody make an emergency call after hours and without completing call is not able to tell his/her location. How can I make 911 call center to know the exact location of my extension. I

Heineken Face EU Fines for Curbing Rivalry
Heineken NV and Carlsberg A/S may be fined after the European Commission charged that they conspired to curb competition in the Dutch and Danish beer markets from 1993 to 1996. The European Union's antitrust regulator said evidence collected in raids two years ago showed the two brewers broke EU law by agreeing not to sell ``intensively'' in each other's territory. Patents on algorithms harm data analytic services
Cologne, 10.12.00 Dear Sir, Dear Madam, We are concerned about the possibility that the European Commission might introduce software patenting into the European Community because we think this will harm our profession. We make our living on data management and statistical analyses. Modern statistics crucially depends on algorithms [cf. Venables, W. N., & Ripley, B. D. (1999). Modern applied
