OT - Cisco IP Phone and PC in different VLANs(with802.1x)
Switch is only tagging the vlan packets. Once the PC loads the vlan aware driver ("client") it will be able to read tagged packet for the vlan which PC has been configured to use. Nothing to be done on the switch. OT - Cisco IP Phone and PC in diferent VLANs (with 802.1x)
Hello to all I would like to know If some of you have already configured an Cisco IP Phone (7940 or 7960) to work in a different VLAN than the PC that is connected through the phone switch? I know that this can be done with the Skinny firmware, but I dont if it works with the SIP firmware. The Cisco technical staff told me that these phones dont support 802.1x but can work as pass-through.

OT: Patch to OSS app for CDP without a Cisco switch - TESTERS WANTED
Hey everyone, I came across a situation where I needed to use CDP to advertise a voice vlan to Polycom/Cisco (and other CDP capable phones) without a Cisco switch. Sure I have Cisco switches in places but I like my Polycoms to work out of the box and it isn't always practical to purchase a Cisco switch for every location. cdp-tools homepage: http://gpl.internetconnection.net/ So I

etherchannel/port group/bonding plus vlan works well
I figured I should post this because before I went to do it I searched the web for caveats etc and didn''t really find much. So anyway, I set up bonding + vlan for a project. Computer is dell powerdge 350 with 2 intel 82559 10/100 nic running stock 2.4.20. I tried both the eepro100 and the e100 drivers for the nics, both work 802.1q and bonding are modules. Switch is cisco 2924xl-en

Andrew and Dennis are spot on. Their conclusions about your server being connected to an access port and not a trunk port would be my conclusion as well. OK... but why does it need to be a trunk port? Boris. VLAN issue
OK, thanks again for all your help. I have resolved this, finally. The problem was that I configured VLAN 48 as the native VLAN on the trunk port. That was a mistake as apparently the native VLAN is the one where Cisco does not bother to tag packets. For now I set the native VLAN to VLAN 1 and that works. Cheers, Boris. On Sun, Jan 25, 2015 at 7:13 PM, Boris Epstein <borepstein at

Polycom VLANs
So has anyone had any experience working with the polycom 501 or 301 and vlans? We run dell managed switches here, so we don't have the luxury of running CDP to force the VOIP vlan. I haven't been able to get the polycom phones to talk on a manually set vlan. I have some junky sipura phones that work fine-(get dhcp, register to asterisk etc) when i manually set them to vlan4. Any advice

A VLAN is basically a 4 byte "tag" that gets injected into the packet header when the packet enters the VLAN network. When we trunk a VLAN we say to the switch "pass packets on VLAN x but

VLAN issue
Hi Boris, what I'd like to know is the actual VLAN configuration of the switch port (link-type and tagged and untagged VLANs). When I look at the switchport coniguration here I get (among other things): ... Port link-type: trunk Tagged VLAN ID : 8, 1624 Untagged VLAN ID : 10 ... Here is my suspicion: Your ports have an access link-type with an untagged VLAN ID of 48. That would

[Bridge] Re: [VLAN] newbie problems
Thanks for the reply. You are quite right about the routing, and i've advanced to the bridging part. But it will not work. I've finaly gotten access to the switch it's connected to and from the logs i've got this output: Jan 26 16:49:56: %SPANTREE-2-RECV_PVID_ERR: Received BPDU with inconsistent peer vlan id 4 on GigabitEthernet0/1 VLAN40. Do you need the whole configuration? On the switch end, we have the relevant VLAN (VLAN 48) with the assigned IP address of 192.168.48.101 and the range of ports (Gi1/0/1 - Gi1/0/8) assigned to that VLAN. Seems - and acts - like a legitimate setup and works fine, except for this particular instance. Thanks. Boris. On Fri, Jan 23, 2015 at 8:54 PM, Dennis Jacobfeuerborn < dennisml at

Cisco 79XX and VLANS
Hey gang, We have about 30 Cisco 79XX phones all running latest 7.5 SIP. We are also using all Cisco Switches and Routers. Everything works great except that when you reboot a phone it takes like 3-5 minutes for it to come up. The phones spend tons of time 'Configuring VLAN..' We don't run any VLANs. Is there some way to skip this? In the 'Network Settings' I have

Polycom provision errors still! Arg!
I have been struggling over central provisioning for quite some time. I have eagerly watched each post with like problems but have yet to find a reliable answer. I have a Polycom 501 and I am trying to provision from an FTP server, and just to take any routing out of the issue it is on the same subnet. I am running the 2.0.1.0291 firmware and 3.2.2 bootrom. I set the IP info on the phone and

I've got a SoundPoint IP500 that I upgraded to BootROM 2.6.2 and SIP image 1.5.2 on someone elses advice, I forgot to change out the old config for the new when I loaded the image up (I guess the config changed a bunch between 1.5.2 and 1.3.1) I was prompted with an error
