Out of the woodwork
Greetings Everyone,
I finally got around to downloading and installing CentOS 3.1. Performed
flawlessly :)
Any of my whitebox friends still around here?
I've been extremely busy with work as of late....I'm still considering getting
involved with CentOS.

Firewall frustration
Well FWbuilder is NOT easy. The documentation does not match the
current GUI. Now the box is locked up. I will have to pull it again,
hook it up to a kybd/VGA and reset iptables....
Maybe Shoreline with webmin....
Problem is I want a REAL router/firewall with little work. Both public
and private nets have routable addresses. No NATing for me! I just
help write the RFC ;) And all the

Red Hat Legal Targets www.centos.org website content
To squelch the questions (related to the changing content on
www.centos.org), I decided this needs to be published.
The CentOS Team has been contacted by representatives of Red Hat's hired
legal team regarding the use of Red Hat Trademarks on www.centos.org.
(Full Email follows.) While the CentOS team feels we are using Red
Hat's marks in a fair and legal manner, we have no choice

If anyone has continuing issues, please ensure you force a reload of the

File Sharing
I have a network with one Linux machine and samba 2.0.7 as well as two
windows 98 machines.
We use one hard disk on the Linux machine to share important project files.
Often we create new directories and here is the problem:
The one creating the directory has full access (of course) but the other
has not!
I put create mode 777 but that is not done.
The folder is /home/tmp but it is shared

WINS server
Hi all. Ok, I'm sufficiently pissed off now. Hopefully someone can help.
Since I have no NT4 servers on the network, I'd like to be domain master,
and a wins server. So I've added the following to the global section:
local master = yes
os level = 33
domain master = yes
preferred master = yes
wins support = yes
And now I receive the following message:

Best Firewall Suggestions?
Hi,
My customer has a outdated firewall that is also presenting a NAT nightmare
for getting the Asterisk server reachable from the internet.
What firewalls work good with VOIP? I really want to steer away from any ALG
supported firewall. I just want a good firewall that works well with
Asterisk.
Thanks,
David Wathen

Problem with SysLinux but not with LILO
Hi,
I am trying to use two products that use SysLinux and finally realised the
SysLinux is the cause of my woes. I'm trying to use Freesco and IPCop. IPCop
version 1.3 used a different boot loader to 1.4 which uses SysLinux. I have
been through numerous trials and tribulations in trying to get Freesco to
work but eventually gave up and went with IPCop. I kept getting the "Boot

Wildcard expansion in remote files or recursion?
Hi all,
[Please CC me in replies, I am not subscribed to this list.]
First of all, thanks for puppet! It is a very nice tool and I''m in the (slow)
process of using it to manage my new Xen-based virtual server farm with it.
Most of the "simple" tasks worked well so far, and I may be able to add a few
recipies to the Wiki when I find time to do so.
However, is there any way

rsync without reverse dns lookup
Hello,
I set up an script witch connects my rsyncd server. But the IPs for
rsyncd Server and Client have no DNS Name, and so rsync trys to lookup
for a DNS Name for this IPs. This causes a long DNS Timeout!
My question: is there a commandline option to disable this "feature"? Or
can you give me quick "hack around"?
Best regards

Multiple Static Ip''s on a adls connection
Hi all.
I have recently signed up with a adsl supplier. I ordered static ip''s I was given a block from 153-158. I am trying to make it so that each machine gets a live ip address that is accessable on the wan. I am using floppyfw as my router on a p200. I know that I could setup the the eth0 as multiple ip''s and do nat, but I am wondering if there is another way. I just want

Problems migrating from WBEL
Hi folks:
I've recently migrated one of my production servers (bad Jason!) from
WBEL to CentOS 3.3 using Donavan's instructions in the FAQ
(http://www.centos.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=19). While it
was as painless as the document suggests, I've run into problems with
postgrey (a postfix greylisting daemon) on my server. Whenever I try
to start postgrey, I get the

Setting up a simple NAT on CentOS 3.5
Well I think this system is back on 3.5. How do I tell? Have not
used it in a while...
I need a NAT for some quick testing and this box was available. Only
a 6gb drive, so I can't install Astaro (which I have licenses for).
So is there a simple way to turn on NATing? Should I upgrade to 4.2?
This box is behind a firewall, so security risks are not the issue. This time.

GLM output for deviance and loglikelihood
It has always been my understanding that deviance for GLMs is defined
by;
D = -2(loglikelihood(model) - loglikelihood(saturated model))
and this can be calculated by (or at least usually is);
D = -2(loglikelihood(model))
As is done so in the code for 'polr' by Brian Ripley (in the package
'MASS') where the -loglikehood is minimised using optim;
