Wherefore whitebox?
Well,
I'm a recent convert from WBEL. My biggest concern with CentOS is that the
community here seems to want to be more than a recompile of RHEL.
But WBEL is floundering, what with Katrina and Rita, and there really being
only 1 developer behind it, etc.
I offer an automated shell script to switch from WBEL4 to CentOS4 (easy, it's
hosted on my home DSL line!) It assumes that

Comming from WhiteBox Linux ...
Hello
several months ago I install WhiteBox Linux on several severs, I was
happy, not woriing about upgrading every 1,5 year as when I use RH 4.0,
6.0, 7.3, 9.0 ....
And then WhiteBox went black, WBEL updates release slowed down and
maintainer wont help form anybody. Just telling "If you want quick
updates, build it yourself.".
I prefer wasting time for customizations and/or

Problems migrating from WBEL
Hi folks:
I've recently migrated one of my production servers (bad Jason!) from
WBEL to CentOS 3.3 using Donavan's instructions in the FAQ
(http://www.centos.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=19). While it
was as painless as the document suggests, I've run into problems with
postgrey (a postfix greylisting daemon) on my server. Whenever I try
to start postgrey, I get the

64-bit ISO Burning Failures
Hi,
I have downloaded several different sets of the 64-bit ISOs, and have
burned them to CD using various of my known-good ISO burning softwares,
including Nero and DeepBurn on Windows, as well as the native CD burning
KDE linux tool on Xandros Linux. I am using mirrors from the site, like
kernel.org.
I have chosen low burning speeds also, but when I insert the ISO CD into a
server and boot it

WhiteBox 4 -> CentOS4.1 - Yum
Hi
Is it possible to swap the yum.conf from my centos box onto my whitebox
box and have the whitebox machine use centos updates through yum? CentOS
seems further ahead and far quicker at roll outs than whitebox?
thanks

Upgrading from WBEL and 4.2?
A while ago, I wrote a script to switch a server from WBEL 4.x to CentOS 4.x.
The recent switch to 4.2 broke this script. Now there are all kinds of
dependencies like python-urlgrabber, and tshe task of getting these sorted
out just drop me into dependency hell. (and this is just trying to get yum
installed!)
Suggestions?

Converting from WBEL 4 to CentOS 4.
Hi all
I want to migrate a server from Whitebox Linux 4 to CentOS 4. I think I
should be able to do it without reinstallation, as both are RHEL
clones...Can someone please tell me how? and if there are any pitfalls
doing it on a production server and doing further updates from CentOS
updates?
With best regards.
Sanjay.

Using Centos
We need to resell systems that run commercial software on Linux. We were
using Red Hat ES 3 originally.
But we later realize that we cannot redistribute RHES without paying
them huge subscription fee because of the trademark.
I came across CentOS from WBEL mailing list. This looks like a godsend
to me. I have some questions regarding CentOS.
I would appreciate it if someone can provide me the

Newbie Questions
Recent convert from WhiteBox, a few questions
What is the difference between CentOS 4.2 and "4"? Is this like the Whitebox
"respin"? Are updates/packages for 4.2 applicable across all the "4" series
of releases?

Mod_auth_mysql
Hello,
I just upgraded from WBEL 4 to Centos 4.1 per the FAQ. I'm pretty sure
after running 'yum update', mysql and apache were updated.
I was previously using mod_auth_mysql under WBEL 4 to password protect
several directories but now things seem to be broken. When I go to a
password protected directory I get an Internal Server Error 500. The only
explanation in the error log is

How quickly are RHEL errata released as CentOS errata ?
Hi,
I am deciding on what 'RHEL clone' to use and prefer to use one that has a
quick release after RedHat releases an update.
I checked the repositories, but have not encountered any of the latest
errata. Am I looking at the wrong place ?
Thanks,

Modify rescue mode boot?
Hi,
I have been able to boot with pxe and load linux rescue, it loads
loader and ask me lang, keyboard, load base from nfs, etc... then it
ask me about mount chroot or skip, I just choose skip to go to shell.
What I want is boot in rescue mode and get a shell directly without
having to enter lang, keyboard, nfs ip and dir, skip, etc... once
booted on shell I want it automatically run a script

HowTos/MigrationGuide
Please (particularly Smooge) review and comment on the new content at
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/MigrationGuide
Based heavily on the pieces I added earlier to
http://wiki.centos.org/Migration/5
Tried to keep it general.
Would assume that we want only one page on Migration with sub-pages for
specific versions. I referred to the CentOS 3 FAQ entry on WBEL
migration but it would seem to be

Updating an RH3 system from CentOS
Can I maintain an RH3 system using centos packages? I admin a
non-profit's server and got them RH3 but the subscription has expired. I
would rather not reload the os, rather just update it using centos and
yum. I haven't worked with yum much, how do I configure it?
TIA
