Local mirrors and ISP transfer bills
As a matter of policy and because I'm at the end of a DS/1 that needs to feed my customers needs, I've set up a local subset mirror of Centos 3.3. It's a subset because I don't copy any of the x86_64 directories ( no machines that use them ) but it's also a superset because I've added an additional "local" directory structure that contains things that I need -

Release of centos-3.3 ISP bill
It turns out that the release of Centos-3.3 was so popular, that it threw us way over the threshold of our ISP's, and now we are stuck with a _very_ large bill (as in an estimated 6TB of transfers). While in one hand I am ecstatic that we are so successful, but on the other hand, that is coming out of the developers pockets. The developers should be the last ones footing these bills (and this

Red Hat Legal Targets www.centos.org website content
To squelch the questions (related to the changing content on www.centos.org), I decided this needs to be published. The CentOS Team has been contacted by representatives of Red Hat's hired legal team regarding the use of Red Hat Trademarks on www.centos.org. (Full Email follows.) While the CentOS team feels we are using Red Hat's marks in a fair and legal manner, we have no choice

Centos at FOSDEM in Brussels?
Hi, I'm a Centos user in Brussels, BE. I'll be going to the FOSDEM conference next weekend and I was thinking about printing up and giving out centos CDs while there. 1) any other centos folks going to be at FOSDEM? 2) any guidelines for printing CD's - I can only run 50 or 100... regards, -Ryan -- Ryan Sweet <ryan.sweet at aoes.com> Advanced Operations and

wifi cluelessness
The nice folks at work have just provided me with a new, really spiffy, ThinkPad. So, I''m trying to get wireless working under CentOS4 and I''m having trouble. First, I can''t seem to find any rpms to just install (this would be really nice). And, second, when I try to build it from the src.rpm that I pulled from the atrpms repository with "rpmbuild --recompile

RHN-like system for CentOS?
Team, Is anyone aware of a Red Hat Network alike system of server package update status that could be adapted for CentOS3? I'm not interested in the complete management aspect (channels, scheduling remote updates, etc) but merely the ability to see your list of systems and determine which are out of date with XXX packages. If you happen to manage a large-ish number of RHES3 systems, you

OT -- Inexpensive CentOS dedicated servers?
Hey all, I am looking to get some input regarding inexpensive dedicated servers -- preferably with a hosting company the offers CentOS as an OS option. Does anybody have any input or recommendations? I'd really like to support a company that uses CentOS. And there are _so many options out there, is kind of overwhelming. Thanks, Ryan

centos-announce list?
Any chance we can set up a low-volume "centos-announce" list so that we all don't have to read all of these non-Centos-specific E-mail threads about people figuring out how to admin a Linux box when all we need to know is when major releases/milestones/news items are available? Regards, -Tom

Hello list. Anyone have a php rpm with snmp enabled or a php-nsmp rpm? I need to build some php pages and would like to use the snmp function that are built in. If there is another way to enable it by not using one of these rpm's that would be great too. TIA Dan

Yum problem CentOS 3.3?
I''m still using CentOS 3.3 as our install mechanism, then adding some packages from a tarball of RPMs we need. Then I run # yum update yum which sometimes takes a while. Yesterday it took many hours. I like to run these from behind a firewall in our office before taking the server to the datacenter, but the delay meant a whole day''s delay in our trip to the datacenter

Re: CentOS 3.4 Single CD "Server" version
Hey, Lance mentioned yum group install. This yum group capability makes the "server" CD's more versatile than the name implies -- you only need a broadband connection to get any kind of CentOS install you want. Start with a minimal install off the CD, and then use the yum group install to conveniently get the same install you could get off the 3 CD set (only more up to date).

Messing around with iptables
Hello all, I am messing around with iptables, trying to learn how it works so that I can build my self a router/firewall and mabey a VPN. Anyway I tried to use a command on my Desktop CentOS3 machine. "iptables -A INPUT -s 127.0.0.1 -p icmp -j DROP" now the command seems to have went through because I didn't get any errors, but when I go to ping 127.0.0.1 I am getting a response

Getting Spam Assassin and Amavis working
Okay, y'all know that I've been working on a script to auto-setup an email server. (updated script at: http://www.benjamin.weiss.name/mail-server.sh ) I've been trying to get Spam Assassin to work correctly with amavisd and razor. To test, I've taken email from my current email server that has a score of 9 or more and tried emailing it to the new server, but it doesn't

openssl-0.9.7a-33.12
Why is RH using such an outdated version of OpenSSL ? I understand that they may have back-ported the fix but I just tried installing Net::SSLeay on a Centos 3.3 box and it wouldn't install, saying that the openssl version was old and suggested I get 9.7b or later? How are you handling this problem? I am resorting to recompiling OpenSSL 9.7d . Thanks, Dave
