IAXy playing dead again
It's happened before, cleared up and now it happened again.
The IAXy, working for a total of about 6 months.
Symptoms:
Registered with asterisk and even receives calls (the LED shows it's
ringing) but phones connected to it are dead.
Same phones work connected directly to the phone line.
Cable swapped out, no difference.
Endless re-provision (with normal looking output) and power

Ugh on new bios.
Just so others know. On my EVGA motherboard the option to boot
removable media didn't work on my usb flash drive with syslinux on it.
Yesterday I tried updating the version of syslinux and seeing if that
would wok. Frustrated with it not working I moaned and groaned and my
brother decided to look for options in the bios that I might have
missed. He couldn't find anything. But I decided to

AVM B1 and PTP mode
Hi !
I've fetched a spare AVM B1 card from the cellar, and installed it. After
"modprobe b1pci" I did "capiinit" and capiinit moaned about a missing
t1.b4.
So I search the web and found one at
http://www.avm.de/ftp/cardware/b1/x_misc/ddi/. When I now look at the
controller, I finally see p2p-mode:

undefined method `generate_token'
Hi Everyone...
I''m following a railscast episode on how to implement an invitation
feature.
It''s going really well, but i''ve hit a minor snag that I cant get
over..
undefined method `generate_token'' for #<Invitation:0x2563bf8>
The invite form allows me to check for a user, and whether they
already have registered. If they have, the invitation is not

plotrix and prettyR
Hi folks,
Both plotrix and prettyR have been updated. plotrix now has the "Matlab"
style dotplot that was requested not long ago on the list, provided by
that intrepid duo, Barry Rowlingson and Rolf Turner. Mike Cheetham has
contributed an implementation of the Piper diagram, also in response to
a request. prettyR has finally learned how to display SPSS value labels
in the xtab and

Sharing GDI printers
Hi guys,
Can someone explain why sharing a GDI printer (think Laserjet
1000/1005/1020 for example) is so unreliable? I'm not moaning about
Samba - I just want to understand.
I have seen this several times. I get the printer working fine under
Linux, then print to it through Samba, also fine. But then I get a call
a day later "we can't print" and when I get there the printer

Problem with '#' key recognition
Hi,
I seem to be unable to get Asterisk to recognise the '#' key being
pressed to acknowledge an incoming call from a queue. No matter how many
times I press the key to acknowledge, the Asterisk server acts as if I
have not.
I have installed the ztdummy module, and it seems that Asterisk is
picking it up OK (mainly since it's not moaning about permissions for

Checking fan state
I just replaced my fan in my nc2400. It was a 5hour job. Had to pull
EVERYTHING to get to where they have the fan in the thing.
Now I want to know if it is working. It is suppose to be
thermostatically controlled, and it takes time to heat up.
So how can I find out what Centos knows about the system temp and fan state?
It was hard to tell if I put the connector in the right way. At least

About DNS again
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I have got a couple of messages stating that I am wrong and that the
resolver vulnerability sent to list by Oliver Friedrichs (oliver@secnet.com)
is a new one. Our discussion with Oliver outlined that even though it is
possible that this vulnerability was discussed during BOFs at conferences
such as LISA, SANS and NETSEC,

Two Locations, One Domain - LDAP Auth Failure
Hi Dirk, thanks for your reply!
I definatly want to go down the BDC route so that I always log on to the nearest server. The link between the two isn't really an issue - both have a DSL connection to the
internet.
I started by modifying my smb.conf files so that each server is a local master for their subnet, but only the uni box is domain master. After fiddling with the 'remote

Strange issues with clients using Samba
Hi all,
Im currently having an issue with Samba (at least thats where I believe
the problem lies) and Windows 2000 and Windows XP clients.
The problem occurs when some of the clients will go to load a document
with Word or Excel, and lo, the client machine crashes, or the program
opening the document freezes. This is usually worked-around as the
offending program will generally work OK if the

CDR Desgin
I've taken the liberty of starting a new thread to discuss the design
of the Asterisk CDR mechanism. The discussion has been kindly
initiated by murf putting together a proposal:
http://svn.digium.com/svn/asterisk/team/murf/RFCs.
After reading the proposal I still don't think it's the right way to
go. To my mind adding more channel variables increases the complexity
