retrieving object names passed indirectly to a function
Hi folks, I'm stuck with a problem that I suspect has a trivial solution... I have a function, call it foo, that takes a number of arguments which it uses as parameters for a simulation. For later analysis, foo stores the names of the objects passed to it along with the simulation results in its output (written to a database). The objects names are accessed with deparse(substitute(argname)).

Disk error 00, drive F0
Hello, I have recently downloaded Sorcerer GNU Linux (http://sorcerer.wox.org/) which uses ISOLINUX for booting the installation CD-ROM. Problem is, I can not get the CD-ROM to boot. I have tested it on another computer, and it works fine (The CD-ROM has been written correctly). When I boot it on my home system, it gives me this error message: ISOLINUX 1.66 2002-01-01 isolinux: Disk error 00,

syslinux-3.36-pre8 feedback
Tested floppy boot on two machines (one PII 350, one 486DX4) Floppy boot with syslinux is very very slow, more than 18 mn to boot a linux kernel from floppy on the 2 machines. Tested with 3 different disquettes that were know to work, boot is reached after this very long time. Noise from floppy head make think floppy wait approximatly one minute between each read. No problem with pxe boot with

Hello, I''m going to be helping a friend setup Shorewall in place of his Cisco router on his home network. Shorewall will be acting as the router/firewall gateway for internet access for his home LAN. His connection to the ISP is via PPPOE. Nothing unfamiliar here to me. It will be a standard 2 interface setup. My curiosity was peaked when he said that he is going to be installing

T100P specs
Does anyone have the physical spec sheet for the T100P from Digium? The one on the website doesn't have what I need. Things like 3.3 or 5v operation, uses n IRQ channels, requires 32-bit PCI, must be installed while standing on one foot and reciting the GPL, etc. Also, if anyone is selling a used T100P or TE4xxP I'd like to talk... Thanks, --Ernest

anova power calculations
I sent a message a couple days ago about doing calculations for power of the ANOVA. Several people got back to me very quickly which I really appreciated. I'm working now on a similar problem, but instead of a balanced ANOVA, I have an unbalanced one. The first part of the question was: You assume that the within-population standard deviations all equal 9. You set the Type 1 error rate at รก

oops 2.2.19 ext3 0.0.6b prune_dcache
Hi, i am seeing an oops (every couple of days) on a UP PII system with SCSI disks, Kernel 2.2.19 and ext3 0.0.6b. All oops output passed the klogd thus i cant anymore pipe it through ksymoops - I ensured klogd got the correct System.map so the result should be reliable. Performance Issues with GBit LAN
Hi. I have 2 PC's connected with 1GBit NIC's. When I transfer a file from my File-Server(Redhat9.0, 256 SD-RAM, 300MHz PII, RTL8169 NIC, 2x Western Digital WD200JB RAID 0) to my Windows-PC(AMD Athlon XP 1800+, 1024 MB DDR-RAM, WINXP PRO, RTL8169 NIC, 2x Western Digital WD080JB RAID 0) with Samba, i get Speeds around 8-9MB/sec. I think this is too low for an GBit Network, so i tested the
