Three (quick?) questions...
[Please excuse if this is a repeat; I initially tried to send it from a
different account, and it's been held up for a couple of days awaiting
moderation.]
1) What's the absolute minimum required (hardware-wise) in order to get one
in-bound POTS line into Asterisk, and then have IP phones "inside?"
[In other words, I obviously need a NIC -- but what would be the

Newbie trying to make calls outside via digium card and POTS line
Hello,
This is my first asterisk installation, and having read up on the
documentation, and trying several tutorials i'm unable to get my
outbound route working. I'm certain it's an issue with my configuration
and my inexperience with asterisk. So i have my POTS phone connected to
my digium card, and when i make a call, I receive the "cannot be
completed as dialed" message.

Asterisk Dial Out Issues - POTS Line

Want to use a remotely location POTS phone
I have 2 locations connection via high speed internet. At location B, I
have a regular old phone line I want to be able to use seemlessly from
location A. What would be required to do this both software and hardware
wise? I (think I) understand a SIP adapter at location A, and a server
running * at location B, but what type of hardware will let me connect the
POTS line to the * server?

Caller ID from POTS lines
Hi,
I'm using asterisk 1.4.22-4 in Trixbox with snom 360 phones. When
calls come in on our POTS lines, the caller id shows up like
"555-555-1234 at 192.168.1.10" where 555-555-1234 is the correct phone
number and 192.168.1.10 is my pbx server IP. This format does not work
for redialing on outbound calls.
While there may be an outbound dialing change that could be made, it

X100P question about odd behavior
Hi All...
I have installed a single X100P card in my PC and am playing with Asterisk.
The wire I plugged into the X100P has two POTS lines on it, wired on the
RJ45 in the normal way.
I am getting odd behavior. It seems when I dial out that the X100P dials
both lines at the same time.
I have two questions.
First, I see that the X100P is only a single channel. Does this mean that
I can

Zap POTS Line Problem calling outbound
I have one POTS line going into a TDM400P. Here in Atlanta, we have 10
digit local dialing. I launch a call "Zap/1/7705551212" and it goes
thru just fine. The next time I try it, without any modifications, I
get a Bell recording telling me that I must dial the area code and seven
digit number when placing a local call. It's like Asterisk may be
starting the dial before the line

Call quality issue across VPN-> POTS vs SIP
Hi All,
Got a strange (at least IMHO) issue that doesn't make much sense to me.
Basic configuration is two sites with a site-to-site (aka router-to-router) VPN. Both sites have Cisco 7961G phones [with SIP firmware] on users' desks, and the only VoIP is internal - all of our outward telecom is on POTS or Centrex-enabled POTS lines.
Site 1 has a Dell PowerEdge 1950 with Asterisk built

* dialing before line is open?
Hi guys,
I've had a sporadic problem recently with one of my users on our POTS
line. About 1/3 of the time he dials a number (usually from a speeddial
on his phone, I think), he'll get some phone company message (from the
outside) about how the call could not be completed as dialed or
something like that.
However, the logs (and the console) always show the correct dialed digits.

Asterisk with Dialplan or TrixBox for this case?
Hi all -
Been using Asterisk installed on Debian and love it. But it's time to
rearrange some lines and looking for a few features I didn't enable or
have in the dial plan the first time around and wondering if you would
recommend doing it through configs again or if one of the prepackaged
solutions would more easily support these needs. One that caught my
eye was TrixBox but I'd be

How to use Sipura SPA3k POTS line to dial Asterisk SIP phones?
My SIP phones can dial out through Sipura SPA3k to POTS for local and
911 calls _but_ incoming POTS calls are being swallowup somehow.
Am I on the right track with the code snippit below?
sip.conf:

In sip.conf the following code is _supposed_ to ring the SIP phones when
a POTS line call comes in through Sipuara to Asterisk.

2 POTS to
Hi all,
Im trying to build an small home system. I have 2 pots lines, and i need to
make 8 extensions and be able to use my old analog phones.
What would you recommend to use as the 8 FXS switch?
I saw some equipment from quintum, they have a Tenor AS that offer 4 FXS
ports. But i don't know if it is the best solution.
Does anyone have a better solution to build this system?

alarm POTS lines
Hi,
I've brought this up in the past and there was a good discussion - am
wondering if there have been any new developments.
Our dialtone service, like I am sure is true for most ITSPs, touts the
ability to drop your POTs lines for significant savings. For businesses
we have a low-cost Atom based PBX and a "fax relay" setup locally with
hylafax/iaxmodem to solve that issue,

Ascend Pipeline POTS to TDM400P FXO Question..
I have a TDM400P with some FXO ports, and I wanted to connect the two POTS
lines from my Pipeline-75 ISDN router into the FXO interfaces on my Asterisk
server.
Hooked it up, seemed fine, called in and it answered. The problem is when
the call is hung up on, the FXO port never drops. So of course then the P75
just holds the line off hook and you get a busy. So it's good for the first

Pots Extensions
Hi all,
I am either going daft or not reading things right.
I have just installed, (well 10 hours ago) a TDM40B and 3 X100P cards. I
have followed the examples for the conf files to the letter.
I can call the pots extensions OK from IAX clients, SIP clients and from the
incoming X100P cards.
But, if I pick up the handset to make a call all I get is the engaged tone
and the following message.

Can Asterisk ring a specific extension based on the number the outside caller dialed?
I am thinking of having a pots line with multiple numbers on it, and having
Asterisk dial my desk if the outside caller dials xxx-xxx-xxx1, and ring
another desk if the person called xxx-xxx-xxx2, etc.
Can Asterisk do this?

telco access ?s -- PRI, T1, POTS?
Hi guys,
I'm new to the telco game and still pretty new to Asterisk, although
I've been using it for a couple of months now and like most of what I
see. At my office, we've got a small two extension setup w/ two Digium
cards for a single FXO line and three FXS extensions, but I'm also
working on designing a larger installation for a customer which will
involve ~16 analog

international calling via POTS in Russia
Hi,
I'm having a problem calling international numbers with debian's
Asterisk 1.0.7 w/ zaptel 1.0.9 in Moscow. Russia doesn't seem to have
touchtone dialing, so pulsedial is enabled on my TDM400P interface.
Local numbers work fine, but when it comes to long distance or
international, I'm lost.
The prefix for these should be 8 (wait for dialtone) 10 (country code)
(city code)

CallerID Debug On Zap/POTS Channel
Hi all,
I've been trying to wrap my mind around this one for several days now.
How can I 'debug' the CallerID reception on a Zap/POTS channel? I have
a POTS line with CallerID and a Digium TDM11B card right now. I have my
signalling set to ks for both sides, can make and receive calls just
fine. But I never get CallerID on incoming calls. I get the following
messages:
