Actual audio bitrates
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I was just measuring the bitrates of a couple of codecs via iax. I'm getting much higher numbers than expected, so maybe I'm doing something wrong? Measured with iptraf, values displayed are: codec: measured bitrate (bitrate according codec definition) gsm: 52 kbps (13 kpbs) alaw: 154 kbps (?) speex: 57 kpbs (24 kpbs) Seems a little

Help with Weird Setup
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, I have 2 outgoing calling companies. Say A and B. With A company, I'm given 250 Minutes free per month. I would like to start off by using A company until 250 minutes were depleted for that month then use B and of course switch back to A once the next month turns up. How would I do this? - -- ================================= Joshua

wav instead of gsm for vm-sounds?
Is there a way to get * to use wav files instead of gsm files for the voicemail, agents, and queues applications? Gsm does not give all the quality we would like to have, and we use no low bit rate codecs.

jitter buffer
jitter varioues from application to application and network to network. let me give you an instance from my own work. i am using speex in a voip application that has to work on gprs connection. the gprs gives just 9.6 kpbs up. hence, i have an upper limit of 6kpbs on the codec and not more than 5 udp packets per sec. that means, putting in 10 speex frames in every rtp packet. i need to jitter

Jitter buffer latency
Hi, I'm trying to use the jitter buffer feature that comes with Speex but I'm getting unexpected latency. I wrote a client application that does VOIP-like functions and without using jitter buffer, the end-to-end latency is around 250 ms (I'm using lowband 5.97 kpbs). However, when I tried to incorporate the jitter buffer feature, the latency would grow as time elapsed (up to a few

quality vs bitrate
The problem is that the mp3 dewdz will be used to looking at bitrates to determine quality, so the solution (as several here say) seems to me to just rip out anything mentioning bitrate from the simple tools. But, they will still see the bitrate in players like winamp. To solve this, why not store the quality setting used when encoding into the ogg file itself ? Either use a field unused when

Questiosn about dbox
Hello I have read carefully about dbox (/http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailboxFormat/dbox/) and I have some questions: - One of the main advantages (speed wise) of dbox over maildir is that index files are the only storage for message flags and keywords. What happens when we want to recover some messages from backup? With maildir we can rebuild message indexes, but I am not sure about

plan/date for new features
Greetings, With all the press concerning the 'almost 1.0' release of vorbis; I see a lot of messages floating around as 'now 1.0, and -soon- it will include joint-stereo, Wavelets, low-bitrate, peeling, etc. etc.' Before I start 'advocating' vorbis and tell everybody what it all can do; is there actually a date or some other planning when all those

Any have any success using a patton smartnode 4118/js/eiu fxs gateway with asterisk? We we're able to get the unit to register with asterisk, but when trying to place a call, no codec was compatible, even though I had all of the following enabled on the patton ... # G.711 A-Law/?-Law (64kbps) # G.726 (ADPCM 40, 32, 24, 16 kpbs) # G.723.1 (5.3 or 6.3 kbps) # G.729ab (8kbps) the link to this

vorbis-tools CVS
Coming out of a long (but definately needed) silence for a moment: A few things for vorbis-tools, since I no longer have CVS access (I think I just misplaced that key): 1. Before anything, put oggchain out of its misery. Please. It's a pile of junk that should have never been committed. Any smidgen of usefulness from it belongs in ogginfo anyway (and it's already there). 2. ./autogen.sh

Samba4 and NVSv4
Short story: cannot get Kerberized NFSv4 to work. I've googled a great deal and cannot find where I have goofed (and there sure is a lot of misleading and just plain incorrect information out there), so would appreciate another pair of eyes. NFSv4 without Kerberos does work fine, as does ID mapping. We're using NFSv4 in production with sec=sys, but I'm not happy with that. My

I have a configured kerberos and ldap server and authenticate in linux using nslcd. nfs4 works fine in the linux world. R as a non-functional language
I'm reading Torgo (2010) *Data Mining with R*<http://www.liaad.up.pt/~ltorgo/DataMiningWithR/code.html>in preparation for a class I'll be teaching next quarter. Here's an example that is very non-functional. > pH <- c(4.5,7,7.3,8.2,6.3) > names(pH) <- c('area1','area2','mud','dam','middle') > pH area1 area2 mud dam
