Zork and Asterisk
http://www.boingboing.net/2006/06/05/play_zork_by_phone.html Let me preface this idea with one comment: I don't have the time to do this - I don't even have time to eat these days. But someone out there has the cycles to do this... and it would be very cool. OK, so now Zork is attached to Asterisk, but using the less-than-clear Festival engine. There are beta tests of the LumenVox

dialplan game
Has anyone built a game with the dialplan? I would think this would most easily be managed by an AGI, but its possible with realtime extensions. The game would be like 'adventure' that I first played on a prime in 1979. Or any of the infocom games (ie zork). Infact since the infocom spec is known it might be possible to plug in the data files directly from an AGI. If anyone has done

Add vorbis_dsp_init() ?
Hi, This mozilla bug report is a crash triggered by a Vorbis file with corrupt headers: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481601 The patch to fix the crash adds a new vorbis_dsp_init() function to libvorbis, and calls that from fs_vorbis_init() in libfishsound: https://bug481601.bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=366150 The public function it adds is: void

pretty eerie feeling: Google "down", Twitter "down", R sites up
Maybe this is just from inside ETH Zurich, but I haven't seen this before in many years: for > 15 minutes now, for me and at least someone else here, - Google (incl. Gmail, calendar..) is entirely unreachable - Twitter is "connecting" and is not reached (in the browser), - three major Swiss news(paper) websites (20min, TA, NZZ) are out of reach, but "of course"

Underground Asterisk Command Set?
Hi People! Is there an underground asterisk command reference manual that the Gurus here share amongst themselves only? :-) The reason I ask is that sometimes I see mention of an asterisk command and I scramble for my asterisk book (pdf) to look it up but can't find it in there. For example, I saw here last week people talking about the Set() application with the "If" conditional

Elastix workshop in Toronto; Wed Nov 26th, 2008
This Wednesday, November 26th, the Toronto Asterisk Users Group invites all in the area to join us for a telephony workshop and talk sponsored by Sangoma Inc.[1] Jose Landivar, co-founder of PaloSanto Solutions[2], creators of Elastix, will be running a "getting started" workshop on Elastix, followed by a talk discussing how it differs from other Asterisk-based distributions, and a

CIDR-matching in puppet manifests?
I have a few settings that change based on the network that a system is in, and I have a heterogeneous collection of networks (a few /24s, some /25s, a /29 and a couple /27s, and hey look a /16 in rfc1918 space and...). So I can''t do simple regex matches on dotted-quad IP notation and expect to get a complete story. What I''d like is something like, I dunno... $nameserver =

R on AIX?
Hi, Last year our systems group tried to install R on an IBM p5-570 machine (16 nodes, 256 GB shared RAM), running AIX 5.3. They ran into all sorts of difficulties and finally gave up. I am interested in trying again (and working with an IBM support group if necessary), but before embarking on this odyssey I was wondering if anyone on this list has ever successfully run R on a similar

RE: [on-asterisk] containers, virtualization, and high availability
I've been trying out asterisk on xen myself. One thing to note for anyone that is experimenting that by default the Xen kernel runs at 100hz. To use ztdummy you need a 1000hz source so you need to recompile the dom0 and domU kernels with 1000hz. If remember correctly you also need to set CONFIG_CRC_CCITT=y in the kernel as well. I have not tested the service migration but it does sound

portmap messages under /var/log/messages
I am running Redhat 6.1 as a firewall between a cable modem and my home network. Occasionally, I see messages such as these under /var/log/messages: Jan 17 13:38:16 saturn5 portmap[3726]: connect from 24.28.77.200 to dump(): request from unauthorized host Jan 18 14:00:34 saturn5 portmap[1544]: connect from 204.151.148.146 to dump(): request from unauthorized host My assumption is that the

rh62 suid files
Hi, I believe having less root setuid binaries on system is The Way ... so: Why does RH6.2 ships with /sbin/dump & /sbin/restore root setuid? These are for sysadmins, not for regular users I hope. Is /sbin/unix_chkpwd really used and what is it used for? I haven't find anything about it in pam documentation. Is it really necessary to ship /usr/bin/gpasswd and /usr/bin/newgrp? Does

AGI and Severe Weather Alerts
All, I am toying with an idea of using an AGI to be able to 'call' my phone, or phones, in case of severe weather warnings. I have been tinkering with a script that reads from weather underground for the forecast, based off a PHP version of a weather AGI I found on the net. It seems rather trivial to have the AGI as a script, that does nothing unless a condition is met, and

music e-commerce using vorbis
Hi, I am the CTO of an online e-commerce site selling signed underground music. We're just about to begin with mp3 distribution by download. I have looked into Ogg Vorbis, and it is interesting for us to both avoid the mp3 patent stuff (what's the legal status of Fraunhofer looking into any possible patent infringements by Ogg?), and WMA. However, I still don't think Ogg Vorbis is

rails_upgrade maintenance
There was a thread a little earlier in the year about maintaining the official Rails plugins. It would seem that rails_upgrade has been left by the wayside, with pull requests dating back as early as September last year. It''s mentioned in the 3.0 release notes as a way of checking your application for changes between 2.3 and 3.0, but what''s the point if the official version of it

Success report with 2.4.12 on UltraSPARC
I felt like some excitement today[0], and so I ported[1] Andrew's patch for 2.4.10 to 2.4.12 and gave it a try. Everything is solid so far; I did a copy of each of two large kernel trees I have lying around and diffed them, followed by an rm -rf of the copies. Everything stayed smooth and stable. Great work, folks. Here's to a merge with mainline! Regards, Sean. [0] It's
