fedora core 3 kernel source - could someone throw the dog a bone!
Ok, don't flame me, I know this is a question with an obvious answer to
some, but I am not one of them.
Installed FC3, but this time I decide to update since my ISOs are a bit
old, so typical yum update
Downloaded the FC3 SRPM for my kernel 2.6.12...
Installed the SRPM package
Ran rpmbuild -bp -target=i686 kernel-2.6.spec

Closest Fedora to CentOS 4?
Hi, I want to take a SRPM that is available for various versions of Fedora
and rebuild it on a CentOS 4 system.
Which release of Fedora is the closest to CentOS 4? In other words, which
would be the best FC to take the SRPM for?
Cheers

Kernel panic - suggestions?
asterisk trunk from April 1 on fc3. Box has been up for several months
with no issues. Overnight, this remote box died, and rebooting shows the
following on the console:
exec of init (/sbin/init) Failed !!!: 20
umount /initrd/dev Failed: 2
kernel panic - not syncing: attempted to kill init
Does this sound like a hard drive failure?
The box is about 150 miles away and is inaccessible remotely.

R works on Fedora Core 3
The RPM for Fedora Core 2 seems to work just fine on Core 3.
(The graphics window got smaller, but I'm sure there is a setting
for that.)

Oh, sorry, I should have clarified.
What I meant by "wait a year" was the time from the first .0 or

Installing Packages on an Athlon 64 Linux System
I installed FC 2 X86-64 on an Athlon 64 system. I then installed R
2.0.0. It runs fine except when I try to install or update packages
using either "install.packages" or "update.packages". I get the
following types of errors:
gcc -I/usr/lib/R/include -I/usr/local/include -D__NO_MATH_INLINES
-mieee-fp -fPIC -O2 -g -pipe -march=i386 -mcpu=i686 -c block.c -o block.o

Easiest way to compile custom kernel, for fedora +openswan+xen+patchomatic
I want to compile a custom xenU kernel for a firewall distribution
(endianfw, version of ipcop), I can get it to load up but the kernel is
missing some modules that aren''t resident. So I want to make a custom
version for this domU, I know what I need kernel+openswan+xen+patch-o-matic
but I not sure the best way to go about this, do I patch a fedora source or
start with a vanilla kernel?

Centos vs FC
Hi all,
I hope I'm not starting a flame war.
I'm installing Centos 4.2 for a mail server. I've been experimenting with,
Centos before, and now wanting to put it into a real action as mail server.
Can someone pls tell me the up and down between Centos and FC?
I'm familiar with FC4 and some things that I like from it:
1. The available packages are abundant. Very easy to find

rotate * log file?
Running fc3 with current cvs-head...
Is there a nice way to rotate the /var/log/asterisk/messages file without
shutting down asterisk?
I'm currently rotating the log files via cron, however my script requires
asterisk to be shut down, which also kills any outstanding cli sessions
(eg, asterisk -rvvvvv). Would like to rotate the files without killing
the cli session. Any reasonable way to

Thank you for any help.

kind of urgent
Hi all.
Can anyone comment why shouldn't we use FC 3 for an * production system?
I'm not looking to start a distro war, but we just found out that redhat
9 (and FC 1) don't support SATA drives, and apparently FC 3 does.
We are only familiar with red hat and are in a point in time that
switching distros is not available.
The guy installing the system is already on location.

Has anyone successfully compiled mpg123 in the 1.0.x or 1.2beta1

ant RPM for CentOS 4
Attempting to build OpenOffice 2 on CentOS 4 from rawhide (future FC5) SRPM.
The spec file has EL4 target (which is nice), and I got almost all dependencies
in place (mostly from 4.2beta and some from rawhide). However, I'm missing the
ant package. Ant from rawhide doesn't compile since it is already gcc 4 based
(fails on dependencies, getting it to use gcc4 instead of gcc seems like

make hanging during compile of r-patched/R-devel on Fedora Core 3
Hi,
On a new Dell laptop, with a fresh FC3 installation (with latest updates
applied) I am experiencing make hanging consistently after/during
building grDevices. This happens when using the configure flag
--with-lapack (I have the LAPACK rpm distributed with FC3 installed).
The last two lines of output are:

OT: Dropbox - Fedora Core 9 RPM will work on CentOS 5.4?
Dropbox has an RPM for Fedora Core 9 (x86). I am running CentOS 5.4 on
my Desktop, which I believe is based on Fedora Core 6. Are the
libraries Fedora Core 9 uses substantially different than those CentOS
5.4 uses? If Dropbox had an SRPM available, I would Download that and
Rebuild, but I'm sure it is Proprietary and they won't release an SRPM
to me. TIA!

SMP kernel on Pent 4?
Had a Pent 4 server running fc3 crash (kernel panic) and am rebuilding
from scratch. I installed FreePBX (CentOs) from scratch and asterisk was
running, but had not yet been configured. It too crashed with a kernel
panic. Ran memtest for 24 hours; no errors or issues uncovered.
I then noticed that FreePBX installed using a SMP kernel (and grub
indicated a non-SMP kernel was installed as
