Too many open files, Bug 3342
We submitted bug 3342 on Dec. 20th, Too many open files. It has not moved from the new state. So lets try here. We have Dell Quad Xeon server that we end up rebooting about every 2-3 weeks when the number of open samba files sky rockets. The system is a ClearCase server system. We have been monitoring this system for a few months now and are not able to pin down a cause to this issue. The system

W2k8 "DNS Manager" doesn't work anymore...
Hey guys, Since the deployment, in production, of my brand new `Samba4 AC DC` (Ubuntu 14.04.1), I was using regularly the "Windows 2008 R2 Enteprise" (also brand new installation - no I.E. installed) software called "DNS Manager", to manage my `Samba4 + Bind9` couple but, since today, out of nothing, the "DNS Manager" does not work anymore, I'm seeing the

Blog article about the state of CentOS
Hi, I just read this blog article from austrian Linux expert Michael Kofler. For those among you who don't know the guy, he's my home country's number one Linux expert (known as "der Kofler") and most notably the author of a series of excellent books about Linux over the last 25 years. https://kofler.info/centos-8-wertlose-langzeitunterstuetzung/ Disclaimer : I've been

plotting survival curves with model parameters
Hello. I am trying to write an R function to plot the survival function (and associated hazard and density) for a Siler competing hazards model. This model is similar to the Gompertz-Makeham, with the addition of a juvenile component that includes two parameters---one that describes the initial infant mortality rate, and a negative exponential that describes typical mortality decline over the

Strategy for a stable IAXy
I've heard comments about the instability of the IAXy (loosing IP, locking up, etc) . I want to deploy some, in a remote site. The comments on the instability suggest that the simplest approach is to power-cycle them when you have problems. The IAXy would only be in use from 3PM to 8 PM. My potential simple solution is to have a timed power brick (like what you would use for a block heater)

plotting survival curves (multiple curves on single graph)
Hello. This is a follow-up to a question I posted last week. With some previous suggestions from the R-help community, I have been able to plot survival (, hazard, and density) curves using published data for Siler hazard parameters from a number of ethnographic populations. Can the function below be modified, perhaps with a "for" statement, so that multiple curves (different line
