hotdesk and voicemail
We have several types of phones,
cisco 7940/7960
aastra 55i/9113i/
grandstream gxp2010
I want to be able to implement hotdesking where an agent will logon to
any phone. I got all of that working, without having to reboot phones,
but then hit a brick wall.
Voicemail.
I still want each phone to use the BLF for voicemail indication, and to
use the "voicemail button" to dial

Vlan question
There is a way to ensure traffic prioritisation...but it can work out a little expensive.
1. Use 3Com 4400 PWR as your switch.
2. Use 3Com NJ200/NJ220 (US) or NJ205/NJ225 (EU) POE Multiport switches
3. Use 3CNJVOIP-CPOD POE --> 7960 POE/Data splitters for power and data connections to the phone.
The 4400 Delivers Power to the NJ2xx switches, these switches have 4 ports which can be

Inexpensive Layer 3 Switch?
Any recommendations on an economical layer 3 switch? Preferably something that you have hands on experience with connecting to IP phones with attached PCs? Specifically I need the ability to set the VLAN in the phone to tag voice packets and to set a native VLAN on a per port basis on the switch to put the untagged packets from the attached PC into a separate VLAN.
POE is not a requirement

[Bridge] VLAN translation + PVST+
Hello, I am creating a configuration where a Redhat server running
bridge-tools 0.9.5 will be bridging between different VLANs on the same
physical interface (for example: a bridge consisting of eth1.100 and
eth1.110). This physical interface is being connected to modern Cisco
switches running PVST+.
The Cisco switch does not like this configuration as the tags on its

[Bridge] combining vlan tagging and spanning tree
Hi,
I am configuring some servers in a high availability setup. The servers
are connected to two switches with two LAN cards in each server. The two
switches are connected directly to each other.
The servers are configured to bridge eth0 and eth1 with spanning tree.
Usually this makes sure eth1 is disabled, unless something happens to
eth0. This way I can have one IP address on each server.

Cisco 7960 & v7.4
I have recently upgraded my firmware from v6.3 to v7.4. Now when the phone is booted or rebooted, the initial screen "Initializing Vlan" takes forever to initialize before it initializes IP. Any ideas/Thoughts? (Trying not to Revert back to v6.3).

OT - Cisco IP Phone and PC in diferent VLANs (with 802.1x)
Hello to all
I would like to know If some of you have already configured an Cisco IP
Phone (7940 or 7960) to work in a different VLAN than the PC that is
connected through the phone switch?
I know that this can be done with the Skinny firmware, but I dont if it
works with the SIP firmware.
The Cisco technical staff told me that these phones dont support 802.1x
but can work as pass-through.

VLAN issue
OK, thanks again for all your help.
I have resolved this, finally. The problem was that I configured VLAN 48 as
the native VLAN on the trunk port. That was a mistake as apparently the
native VLAN is the one where Cisco does not bother to tag packets.
For now I set the native VLAN to VLAN 1 and that works.
Cheers,
Boris.

Cisco 79XX and VLANS
Hey gang,
We have about 30 Cisco 79XX phones all running latest 7.5 SIP. We are
also using all Cisco Switches and Routers. Everything works great except
that when you reboot a phone it takes like 3-5 minutes for it to come up.
The phones spend tons of time 'Configuring VLAN..' We don't run any
VLANs. Is there some way to skip this?
In the 'Network Settings' I have

PoE switch recommendations?
Hey, all. We're rolling out VoIP, and I'm wondering about PoE
recommendations, as we're going to have to replace our current network
equipment. My first inclination would be to just plunk down the cash and
do a Cisco system, but I'm relatively certain that would get shot down by
finance. Any recommendations for a couple-hundred-port solution with
VLANs, PoE, and QoS? Don't

Fw: linksys rt31p2 test case
Hi all,
I'm trying to set up a test case for an ISP featuring an asterisk server and a couple of linksys rt31p2-na routers registering on it.
Instead of using dsl lines, i'm trying to plug the * server and the routers on a cisco switch, just to test their functionality.
I have created a vlan and a subnet on the switch and set up the ip addresses of the routers in that subnet.
When i plug

Polycom IP 330 w/VLAN?
Hi, all. I see that the Polycom SoundPoint IP 330 supports VLAN... but I
don't quite see how that works. Do you point a non-VLAN'd segment at it
(akin to when you uplink a VLAN_enabled switch), and have the phone
implement the VLAN? Or...? *puzzled*
Thanks much,

Polycom getting DCHP address from wrong VLAN
Hello,
I have been tearing my hair out on this issue for 2 days, any help
would be appreciated.
We have a normal network and a Cisco SGE2010P switch - a 48 port PoE switch
There are two VLANs, 1(data) & 50(VoIP). When Polycoms are connected
to the switch with VLAN 50 hard coded in the config they grab a DHCP
address from VLAN 1, the PVID for the switch port.
The ports have membership in

Changing labels on Phones
We have several types of phones, Cisco 79xx, Aastra 9133i etc. We have a
"hotdesk" type system where anyone can log on to an extension - however what
I would love to do is relabel the phone with the current "owner" when this
logon happens. I know that I can change the sip.conf and phones tftp file,
however this is a big problem with the Cisco's as they take *forever* (ok,

Cisco 7960 says "Protocol Application Invalid?"
I have been able to upgrade my Cisco 7905G phones to the SIP Image without
any problems, but I just got a 7960, and I can't seem to get to the settings
so I can upgrade to a SIP Image.
When the phone boots up, it says Configuring VLAN, Configuring IP, TFTP
????..., then Protocol Application Invalid.
I noticed on the wiki page "Firmware issues on 7940 - 7960"

VLAN vs RealLan
Given a choice, and a green-field site, would you
a) Have a separate network (switches etc) for your data and phone
b) Use the same network, but use VLAN's ??
What are the pro's and con's of each ?
TIA

Asterisk server and DSCP QOS
Can anyone comment on the DSCP quality of service settings on your
Asterisk server?
The network we're setting up has data on the default VLAN, Asterisk
server and phones on VLAN 4, and we're using Polycom phones with a PC
hooked up to the phone's pass-thru port.
What iptables settings are you using on the Asterisk server for DSCP?
What are your Polycom DSCP settings? We're using

Cisco 7960 SIP boot takes 2 minutes?
Two minutes seems like a long time to initialize a Cisco 7960 IP phone.
What times are others seeing for the load when you reboot a phone? We are
running the SIP 7.4 load. Our * 1.0 stable is also our http, dhcp and tftp
server.
During boot, the display shows:
Configuring VLAN 100 seconds
TFTP SIP loads a few seconds
back to Configuring VLAN the rest of the time.

Centos box and Cisco 3750 VLAN's
Hello all,
I have a CentOS box that has a NIC (eth0) on which I defined 4 VLAN's
(counting the NIC itself): eth0, eth0.1, eth0.2 and eht0.3. Initially the
Cisco switch was not partitioned into VLAN's which means that the only VLAN
running on it was the default one (VLAN 1).
I have then played with VLAN's a bit on the switch and at this point have
two: VLAN 1 (which is default and can

C8 - KVM on bridge on VLAN on team issues.
As part of my initial KVM host on C8 deployment, I decided to set up
some HA features on the new host, specifically NIC teaming. Teaming
seems to be bond++ of a sort, so I thought I would at least try it.? So
here's the scenario:
1.) Server with two gigabit ethernet ports, two Cisco switches.
2.) During install, used the 'Server with GUI' group and added the
