Problems dialing out with T100P and Adtran
I have a T100P card connected to an Adtran and then a T1. I have added the following configurations to Asterisk...but, when I dial 9 and then a local phone number, it bounces between the dial tone and silence and the *error* light on the Adtran blinks. zaptel.conf span=1,0,0,esf,b8zs fxsks=1-8 loadzone=us defaultzone=us zapata.conf [channels] context=from-sip signalling=fxs_ks

New office hardware set up question.
Pardon the newb question and all, but this is my first real experience with phone systems, let alone VoIP and Asterisk. I'm building an office space for a former employer and we are considering Asterisk as the phone system there. But, I've never set up an Asterisk system before so I've got a couple of questions about the required hardware. The network architecture is pretty

If you run Archlinux...
I remember a thread a while back asking about Linux distro's of choice. My flavor is Archlinux. But, I found a tiny discrepancy with Arch and Asterisk's install. Arch uses *mawk* for it's awk compiler, unfortunately...Asterisk doesn't seem to pick up on it. So, I installed *gawk* as well...and the install went smoothly after that. Just a heads up if you choose Archlinux

Help with a fax via Grandstream Handytone 286?
I have an analog Fax machine which I wish to connect to the network and the Asterisk server. It will connect through a GS Handytone 286 converter and then into the LAN. Is there any information out there on what I need to write in *sip.conf* and/or *extensions.conf* to make sure the fax works as a fax? Channel 8 on my T1 is a reserved, dedicated line for the fax number. Do I need to

T100P-E100P circuit board differences
Hi- Perhaps someone with an E100P in hand can answer this: I just received an E100P from Digium (I normally buy quad boards) I noticed that the circuit board says "T100P" on it, and I assume that the T100P and E100P both use the same circuit board. Can someone please confirm that their E100P says "T100P" on the artwork? Thanks Scott Scott M. Stingel Emerging Voice

Asterisk Install on Kernel 2.6.x
i know asterisk itself will install on a linux kernel 2.6.x, but i've seen places say that the zaptel drivers wont? is this still true? is it possible to build asterisk/zaptel on a linux 2.6.x kernel? -- Shawn Parker Network Administrator Cumulus Broadcasting, LLC. CPU power required - Asterisk
Hi- I'm almost embarrassed to ask the following simple question, following John's excellent and rigorous bandwidth analysis (see earlier thread): I have a straightforward Asterisk application, IVR-only (no connections between channels). It will simply decode DTMF's and speak prompts (probably A-Law encoded) on a number of E1 circuits simultaneously. Realistically, how many

use of Asterisk and T100P as Nortel DSX-1?
Hi all, I've seen a couple of posts recently from people who are doing something with Asterisk and a T100P and a Nortel PBX. However it's not clear exactly what they are doing. Does anyone know if it's possible to use a T100P or T400P as a DSX-1 interface to connect to a T1/PRI CO module in a Nortel PBX? We have a Nortel Norstar Modular ICS PBX and I'd like to plug its CO

Dell PowerEdge 750 rackmount
Hi- I have an upcoming order for a bunch of asterisk boxes, and I'm considering using an "assembled" package for the server, instead of building them from components as I usually do. Does anyone have experience with the Dell PowerEdge 750 server, or any other 1U rackmount server for use with asterisk? Thanks in advance Scott Stingel Scott M. Stingel President, Emerging Voice

X100P & T100P knock-off boards
Do they fall under FCC certification if they're built to the same specifications as the ones from Digium? If I build my own T100Ps from the schematics and board layouts that are available, are they legal to plug into the PSTN?

PRI dead in USA?
Hi- Because a majority of my customers are in Europe, I've gotten quite used to working with ISDN (PRI) and BRI on a regular basis. Recently one of my customers asked me if I could terminate a few lines locally here in the USA (California), so I called up SBC to enquire as to how much it would cost to install a BRI here. Although the rates were reasonable (except the installation), I got

Experiences with Fedora 1
Hi all- Over the past week or two, I've been trying out asterisk under Fedora 1 Linux (RedHat). In my setup (single and dual Xeon motherboards), I have so far had a very good experience in terms of performance. In doing E1 load testing, I've found that Fedora handles heavy load much better than RedHat9, probably because of its better use of the multi-threading capabilities of the Xeon.

"Glare" condition - How well does asterisk handle?
Hi- I have an upcoming application that requires use of PRI channels that are primarily used for high-volume incoming traffic, but that are to be used for outbound calling as well. Of course, one option is to have dedicated outbound channels reserved, but this is an inefficient use of channel resources. Normally PBX's are designed to have the CPE yield to an incoming call if a particular

Question about cdr_sql fields
Hello- Is it possible to set the CDR record field called "accountcode" from within the dialplan? Or is there another way to cause this field to be set, preferably without using AGI code. Offering an Asterisk Documentation and FAQ Portal
Hi, I have resources available to host a portal specifically for the Asterisk system, to help correlate documentation, FAQ's and How To I am new to Asterisk, and my hardest work is in locating information on using or configuring the software. Would Mark, John or any of you feel this would be of benefit to host? I am offering a PHP-NUKE portal for this, (Unless you know of a better

drop calls with T100P / PRI
Hi List, a number of our customers are reporting dropped calls. here is the config. 1 T100P T1 Card 1 Asterisk (Mid Nov build) T1 is signalled as a PRI(National) The card will only sync up if we clock, if we line side clock the card goes into yellow alarm and won't sync up. the only errors we see are framing slips. Around 2500 slips over a 18 hour period. (this was reported from

Tuning the Linux kernel?
Hi all- It's often mentioned here that recompiling the Linux kernel may improve the performance of asterisk. My question is: Does re-compiling the kernel have any effect if there are no changes to the configuration? What parameters will typically improve performance? Thanks for any insight! Scott Scott M. Fix for Redhat 9 zombie AGI processes
Hi all- Thanks to Mark Spencer for finding this patch: If you are experiencing leftover zombie processes from your AGI scripts that have terminated, this is apparently due to a RedHat 9 threading issue introduced in a recent update.... To get rid of this, try entering the following line before you start asterisk: export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1 It works for me - I'm still checking to
