Closing bug reports without fixing the repor ted problem
[vested interest: I reported that bug!] I agree with this, a system that has x bugs still has x bugs even if you close them, I think they should be closed by houskeeping if they can't be reproduced and the person that reported them can't provide a way to replicate, but they shouldn't be closed because nobody has fixed them for a while. This seems to be the case on a number of

procrustes results affected by order of sites in input file
Dear All, I am using a Procrustes analysis to compare two NMDS ordinations for the same set of sites. One ordination is based on fish data, the other is based on invertebrate data. Ordinations were derived using metaMDS() from the {vegan} library as follows: fish.mds<-metaMDS(fish.data, distance="bray", k=3, trymax=100, wascores=TRUE, trace=TRUE, zero="add")

parser does not catch strings without closing quote
Shouldn't the parser complain about unfinished strings in files? It doesn't and will tack on a newline if there isn't one there. > withOption <- function(optionList, expr) { + oldOption <- options(optionList) + on.exit(options(oldOption)) + expr + } > cat(file=tf<-tempfile(), "\"string without closing quote\n") > p <-

Rails too Active?
I feel the need to protest about a disturbing trend in the vibrant RoR community - name dilution. ActiveRecord is called that precisely because it is that. The name come from Martin Fowler, and it expresses a class which is a database record, only _active_ - that is with methods & behaviors (unlike a classical database record, which is completely passive.) If you look in the

pam_sss fails to close cache files
Dear folks, After updating some of our servers to CentOS 6.8, we've noticed that the ones using pam_sss.so for authentication, appear to be suffering from a leak of sorts. On these systems, the /var partition is running out of disk space, and we eventually noticed that it's because of deleted, but still open files like these: httpd 1081 apache 8r REG 253,2

trouble getting output from graphs, again
It seems like every time I try to do something a little different, I cannot get output saved just right. This is on RedHat 7.2 with R 1.4.1. The png output looks fine, but the eps output has the problem that the bounding box on the legend cuts the legend in half. I put a copy of a bad one here: http://lark.cc.ukans.edu/~pauljohn/ResearchPapers/meanProtest-box.eps When I asked about these

[RFC] Add mergeable and eh_frame section pieces to map files and --print-gc/icf-sections reports
It seems that showing eh_frame section pieces in the map file is useful, but I wonder what would be a concrete use case of the feature. Do you mind if you ask you to describe your plan if you have a use case in mind? I''m doing some housekeeping and just realised that the rdoc formatter produces gibberish: http://rspec.rubyforge.org/rdoc/files/EXAMPLES_rd.html Will anyone protest if I just go ahead and remove it? (I can''t imagine anyone using it, especially with the much better HTML formatter) Aslak

[RFC] Add mergeable and eh_frame section pieces to map files and --print-gc/icf-sections reports
Hi, We’d like to propose an extension to both the map file and the print-gc/icf-sections output. This extension would be to report the pieces of .eh_frame and SHF_MERGE sections in these files somehow. Since all (or at least the majority) of the contents of these sections in the output come from inputs, it would be beneficial in trying to associate the output contents with where they came from,
