Definitely recommend upgrades on Tyan S2895 ...
It seems that unstable PowerNow support on the Tyan S2895 is not limited to Linux according to this review: http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-296-1.htm Their solution was to upgrade the BIOS as well. -- Bryan J. Where do my RPMs actually go, and is it different for Red Hat builds?
I'm trying to install themes for KDE. In doing so, I came across the following web site which seems to have the themes I want as RPMs: http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/17/dept/3/idg/User+Interface_Desktop The theme I want is called "Thinkeramik", and it has the following versions, for various Red Hat builds: thinkeramik-3.2.1-1.0.el3.kde.i386.rpm RedHat EL 3

Fedora packages or Enterprise packages of Samba on RHEL4?
Hello, Can somebody of the Samba team explain me the difference of Fedora packages or Enterprise packages ( <http://enterprisesamba.com/> http://enterprisesamba.com/) of Samba on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4? I tried to find any information about this subject, but googleing doesn't help me. The standard Samba package (3.0.10EL) of RHEL4 doesn't communicate with a W2k3 server

Red Hat Directory Server + Fedora Directory Server version correlation?
Hi All, I was wondering if anyone knows about version-number correlation between RHDS and FDS. I've sofar been quite unable to find anything about it. The latest version of seems to be 7.1SP3: http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/dir-server/ And the latest version of FD seems to be 1.0.4: http://directory.fedoraproject.org/wiki/Download Most sources I could find state that "FDS and RHDS

Cannot authenticate with new Red Hat/Fedora SHA512
RHEL6 and Fedora 14 use an improved password algorithm of SHA512 on a brand new install of the OS (:$6$ in shadow file). cat /etc/shadow user1:$6$<salt>$<password>:15006:0:99999:7::: I cannot get dovecot to authenticate. I've search for a way to change the default algorithm in dovecot and found you should use CRYPT but I don't know what to put in the

Red Hat and "use sendfile"
Recently I've seen several suggestions on this list for the enabling of "use sendfile" as a means to improve throughput. I thought this was peculiar since the doc says it is enabled by default. I guess it isn't. On both RHEL4 (Samba v3.0.10) and Fedora Core 4 (Samba v3.0.14) the entry for "use sendfile" in the smb.conf says: Default: use sendfile = yes Hmm.

Choosing to put CentOS in terms of itself ...
I've been reading back through the archives, really detailed, especially a select few people. And I promise, this is the last time I'm going to say this. I think CentOS stands great on itself, and you don't need to define many things is dislike of other distro. I know many of us (at least us Americans) like to put things in terms of "versus" as much as we can. And I am too

Would RHEL, CentOS, and Fedora Remain Open Source/Free Software After IBM Buys Red Hat for $34 Billion?
If I heard/remember correctly, AT&T's UNIX was proprietary but they released it to academic institutions under NDA and were lax in enforcement. We all know what happened. In this case it's obviously open source, we know what will happen if someone tries something. My main concern is future development, will it remain open source. My real fear is that a certain un-named company is

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and CentOS 5 extras packages

Red Hat commercial support for CentOS/Fedora
Someone told me that if you have a CentOS or Fedora server, you can pay a Red Hat yearly fee and get them to support it (because the environments are so similar). Can anyone here substantiate this claim? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Can't build wine on Red Hat Fedora
Hi! I get this error when I'm trying to compile wine 0911 release on Red Hat Fedora (with gcc-3.3.1-5) using the tools/wineinstall script. Can someone please tell what is wrong? I could't compile last month's wine either. There was a segfault at the end of the installation process, when it reached some "wine registry". make[2]: Entering directory

Fixing filenames with directories with spaces in the names
Should be simple and perhaps I'm tired but it's not coming to me. In its simplest form... for old in `cat "$FILENAME"`;do echo "$old" dirname "$old" new="$(echo $old | sed 's/\*/\-/')" done I'm trying to take out some stupid Macintosh things - in this case filenames with asterisks but I have others like tilde's and probably
