[OT] Services for Unix being built into Win2K3-R2
I found this article about Microsoft SFU being built into the new Windows 2003 Server R2 very interesting. http://news.com.com/Microsoft+makes+Unix+changes/2100-1016_3-5845790.html?tag=cd.top What does this signify? Is Windows ready to really co-exist with Unix / Linux ... or are they going to try and provide similar functionality because they recognize it is better technology moving forward?

[IDMAP AD] Strange questions on uid/gid resolution.
Dear all, I am using Win2003 with SFU 3.5 (not R2) as domain controller. I enabled the UNIX attributes of several users and groups. I use idmap = ad to connect to my Win2003 box and setup the winbind / nss accordingly. wbinfo -u / -g work fine, getent passwd / group works fine, chown works fine, id <username> works fine. But when I tries to use ls or groups <username>, it returns the

automounter with users home directories on centos 7.
----- Original Message ----- | Not tried automount with Centos 7 nor with selinux. | | With that said autofs relies on nfs mounting to work, so have you | started there by attempting to manually mount /home? | | Another place to look is at the hostname. I've had problems where auto | mount doesn't like the short name and insists on using a FQDN, to get | around that you could try using

Using idmap backend = ad
Good day! I have AD on Win2003 Server with Services For UNIX 3.5. When I try to set idmap backend = ad and type # id <domain_user_name> I get in log.winbindd-idmap following: [2007/11/07 18:09:18, 1] nsswitch/idmap_ad.c:idmap_ad_sids_to_unixids(613) Could not get unix ID AD user has SFU UID 20000000. wbinfo -u prints correct lists of domain users, and when using idmap bakend = tdb

winbind idmap question
Hi, how do I tell winbind to use "UserId" from AD, and not doing own mapping of ID's ? AD is win2003 R2 Std with sfu. What I did/tried: current (this did not work): # winbind separator = \ winbind use default domain = Yes winbind nested groups = Yes # winbind cache time = 600 template shell = /bin/bash # template homedir = /home/%D/%U

Allow ALL internal traffic
Hi all, its a real nightmare for me. Although i have read and searched the web for two weeks i can`t get shorewall to work. problem is that we have only one server that acts as fileserver (samba, nis, nfs) and router/firewall for the lan. the server has two interfaces eth0 = lan and eth1 = internet. The only what we need is full access from the lan to the firewall and restricted access

Fix passwd/shadow/group files?
I've been copying old passwd/shadow/group files from system to system for ages across different distributions/updates and would like to get them back in sync with each other so the system tools will work. Now they hang like: #userdel irose hangs forever, syslog says: Jul 12 11:19:32 newftp userdel[30335]: delete user `irose' Jul 12 11:19:32 newftp userdel[30335]: delete `irose'

Mailing List Etiquette
OK guys and gals ... can we please stop all the fighting? When technical questions are asked, they should be answered. I lot of people on this list have something that a lot of newbies need ... experience. So answering a question with "RTFM" or "JFGI" is not going to impart any of your experience ... which is one of the things they need and want. Also ... if someone attacks

64 bit hardware and filesystem size limit
We recently bought a 32-bit Xeon system with a 12-port 3Ware RAID card and a dozen 500GB drives. We wanted to create 4TB drive arrays; however, we soon discovered that there is about a 2.2TB drive array size limit on 32-bit hardware. Does that sound correct? Would replacing the 32-bit mobo/cpu with a 64-bit mobo/cpu allow us to use drive arrays larger than 2.2TB? Thanks.

Still can't mount Samba shares from other Samba server
I am *still* unable to mount shares from a Ubuntu 10.04 server, using a Ubuntu 10.04 laptop. I totally re-formatted both my desktop and my laptop with Ubuntu 10.04 (so that they would be using the same version of Samba). I am using the exact same smb.conf for the 2 machines (less the share definitions, which exist only on the desktop, known as "workhorse"). wbinfo -u, wbinfo -g,

64-bit Windows advanced server 2003 hangs
I just had the unpleasant experience of crashing a production server _twice_ when trying to access a file share. The server is 64-bit Windows 2003 on an itanium3. My box is RedHat Linux 8.0 with Samba 3.0.0-2. Here's some messages from syslog: Mar 19 09:13:58 hedron automount[1037]: attempting to mount entry /dborg/POS Mar 19 09:13:58 hedron mount.smbfs[23153]: [2004/03/19 09:13:58, 0]

getent passwd does not list trusted users
I am running Samba 3.5.5 on Solaris 10. This is the latest Sun/Oracle provided build. I have an ldap backend for everything (unix+samba accounts, idmapping for domain trusts.) The Samba server is a PDC for a domain we can call "SAMBA." Each samba account is tied to a unix account. I have a one-way domain trust setup with a Windows 2003 domain which we can call
