Polycom IP500 vs Cisco 7940
Hi Everyone, I've been asked to determine which phones our organization should go with. And I've narrowed it down to the Polycom IP500 or the Cisco 7940. From my travels through google, it's hard to find a definitive comparison of the two phones. So I thought I would ask the people that have probably used both. From what I can tell, the only major benefit the Cisco has over the

Looking for PRI Outbound Caller ID Configuration
I'm having trouble setting the outbound caller ID on calls I make from my PRI trunk group. The PRIs are served out of a 5ESS. Telco has set the PRIs up for user provided caller id information, so I believe I just don't have it set up right in my dialplan or something. I can't seem to find an example of setting the outbound caller ID specifically for a 5ESS. Does anyone have an

Echo Cancellation not working in Zapata.conf
I have echocancel=yes in zapata.conf but when I do a zap show channel 1, I notice echo cancellation is turned off. I followed the article that talks about the order in which the statements need to be in zapata.conf to get echo canceling to work: http://lists.digium.com/pipermail/asterisk-users/2005-June/110615.html But it is still not working. Does anyone know how to get echo

PRI and echocancel
Hello, I have a crossover PRI(Asterisk server to PBX) and a regular telco PRI T1 line and currently have echocancel=yes and echocancelwhenbridged=yes on those spans in zapata.conf. I was discussing CPU load with another Asterisk user and he mentioned that PRIs don't need echo cancelation and that turning it off will reduced CPU load on the server. I checked many sample configs and the

Polycom Echo
Lately I have been experiencing a lot of echo from my Polycom phones. Only I hear the echo and it's not on every call. I've researched it via google and the forums and every echo problem usually relates when it's using a Zap card and not an IAX provider. Can anyone give me some advice or where to look to help solve this echo problem? This never occurs on any of our other phones,

3rd T1 of quad card won't change signaling
Hello, I'm trying to set the 3rd span of a new digium quad card as a E&M T1 for Faxes to a Hylafax server. The 1st and 2nd spans are working as PRIs. When I start asterisk, the logs show a signaling error and chan_zap.c dies. I also get an error that it can't read the gains but they are the standard shown below. 2.6 kernel, Debian Stable, * 1.2 svn from feb 2007 my procedure: make

pridialplan per call or per channel group?
Hi, Is it possible to set the pridialplan (or prilocaldialplan) on a call-by-call basis, or for a particular PRI channel-group? >From my experimentation so far, it appears to me that the pridialplan and prilocaldialplan are global in zapata.conf, unlike other options such as switchtype, signalling, and context. I currently have two PRIs from different providers (and different

Looking for PRI Outbound Caller ID Configura tion
As an employee in the technical operations of a CLEC this information is easily obtainable by anyone that has access to the Class 5 switch servicing that PRI... A Q.931 trace in the Class 5 Switch will tell the whole story.... -----Original Message----- From: asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com [mailto:asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com] On Behalf Of Rich Adamson Sent: Tuesday, June

Prohibit transfer to one extension
Hello all, first post, need help. I'm running a complex asterisk 1.8 install with five machines. I inherited it and don't fully understand it, nor the deep mysteries of asterisk either. I would appreciate any insight you might have. I scoured the 'net and the Digium wiki and my Google-Fu has failed me. I've been asked to somehow prohibit transfers to extension 3232. It has to be

Why does the s extension not work in my extensions.conf file
Hello In my extensions.conf file: [frompstnisdn] exten => s,1,Dial(SIP/200&SIP/202,20) exten => s,2,Voicemail(su200) exten => s,3,Hangup I use the s, start, extension to handle incoming calls. In my zapata.conf: context=frompstnisdn This works ok on another asterisk box I setup. But on incoming calls I get: -- Extension '787367' in context 'frompstnisdn'

Context fails so falling back to extension "s" ?
I realize it's bad form, but I'd really appreciate some hand holding here. AMP is making me pull my hair out and the mountain of configuration data in extensions.conf is starting to get to me... I have the first channel configured in zapata.conf to "take" incoming contexts to "from-pstn". I'm using AMP neat "Incoming Calls" configuration page and

Remote hold on PRI
Hi everybody We have a strange problem with several asterisk servers (Version 1.4.11) using PRI cards (tied to telco here in Belgium). Indeed we noticed that whenever a local user places an outgoing call through the PRI (and telco) to another IPBX (tied to telco using BRI or PRI), if the remote party places the call on hold, the caller hears the _local_ music on hold instead of the

T1 Timing Troubleshooting
I'm having (I think) timing issues in relation to bridged T1-T1 calls via dynamic spans. Fax calls are intermittently working, but voice is fine. My box has a Sangoma A400 inside it as the primary Zaptel timing source. My T1 PRIs that are hooked to the box come in via a foneBRIDGE2 (dynamic TDMoE spans). PRI #1 is the telco and PRI #2 is an existing Comdial FX-II. For some reason, bridged TDM

Problems with Call Progress and fax detection on PRI
Hello, I have been running some tests to get a better understanding of PRIs and the HANGUPCAUSE variable and I'm not having any luck. I have tried calling disconnected numbers and the call is connected through to my extension and I hear the tri-tones. And it looks like HANGUPCAUSE is always 16 (AST_CAUSE_NORMAL_CLEARING). Am I doing something wrong, or am I just misunderstanding? Also,

HFC-S card problems
Hello everybody, I'm having little trouble (well, pretty big trouble) with HFC-S card and Asterisk. My idea is to do VoIP/IAX link between two HW PBXen using two Asterisk PC boxen with ISDN cards in them. AFAIK HFC-S cards must be in NT mode for this installation, they must behave like state line for those HW PBXen. (if wrong, please correct me). Diagram follows:

Norstar MICS
I am currently working on an Asterisk test system, and will be presenting a demo to the Board of Directors tomorrow night. I want to make sure I have all of my ducks in a row. The Asterisk system will be used to replace a Norstar MICS. The location has two PRI's coming in, with a few hundred DIDs. I know how to make * use the DIDs incoming, and I know how Nortel uses the DIDs. Now for the
