AstriCon Videos and Presentations: First batch is on-line!
This year we recorded quite a few of the AstriCon sessions - 3 out of the 4 tracks were video taped. The folks at TMC then went through a fairly painstaking process of synchronizing the video presentations to the slide decks that each presenter provided, so we have an index-able and fast-forward-able version of each talk. I'm really excited about this video presentation method,

Off-topic -- an eye on a stats presentation for clinicians?
I've got a 20 slide Powerpoint set up against the expected day someone says "Mitch, could you talk for a short while to the residents on how to use statistics?" It looks good at this end, but I'd love to get at least one more pair of eyes on it. Any volunteers? -- Due to the recession, requests for instant gratification will be deferred until arrears in scheduled

Populating values in a PowerPoint table
Dear R-help, I managed (thanks to the R2PPT package) to create a PowerPoint presentation and create a table in it but for the life of me I can't find a way to populate the table with values and text. I'm aware of the function 'PPT.AddDataFrame' which creates an Excel object from a data frame, but the excel object is not nearly as nice looking and easy to manipulate (and apply

how to present a table in powerpoint?
Hi, I have a nicely printed table of results generated by R's > print(myresult) where myresult is a "data frame". I am trying to put this table into a powerpoint slide for presentation without re-typing and re-formating, i.e., present it as it is in the R window. This saves time when there are a lot of tables to be presented. I tried > sink("myresult.txt") >

Printing ps pictures with transparent b'ground
Hi all I wish to create a ps file of a picture produced in R. With my limited R, I see two ways: 1. Print direct to the postscript device 2. Print to the screen, and save to ps using dev.print. I want a white (not transparent) background. Option 1 above works fine, but 2 does not: even when I say I want a white background, I get transparent; perhaps I misread the help files. Here's some R

lmsensors sensors.conf file for gigabyte GA7N400 Pro2
Having done my fresh 5.0 install a couple months ago I'm slowly getting things back in to working condition. Decided last night to try setting up lmsensors. Got it all set up (modules, etc taken care of) and it runs and reports values, but some of 'em a clearly wrong with the default sensors.conf Trying to use the old sensors.conf I used on Centos 4 produces even more whacked-out results,

PowerPoint 2000 freezing with some presentations...
Hi all! I am having some problems with PowerPoint 2000 running in a wine 0.0.20050725-1 debian package. It works fine when I am creating a new presentation, but when I am opening old presentations it freezes after displaying the first slide and I am unable to even exit from ppoint. The console shows the following: err:syslevel:_EnterSysLevel (0x7f117380, level 2): Holding 0x7fb1fea0, level 3.

Dynamically switching lattice device characteristics in Sweave under Makefile control
I am indebted to Deepayan Sarkar for lattice graphics, Fritz Leisch for Sweave and the authors of the beamer package for LaTeX. For me these are a "killer app" combination. I wouldn't want to go back to creating presentations in any other way. When I create a presentation I use a Makefile that allows me to the presentation version of the slides, a 4-up version for printing on
