console sound
Hi, I have a RH9 system with an onboard VIA sound chip. According to the archives, VIA won't work for asterisk. So, I disabled the VIA and I purchased a Creative Labs "Soundblaster PCI 128-Voice" soundcard ($13). This card is on the "approved" RedHat list. However, the documentation inside the package says "VIBRA 128". Anyhow, kudzu doesn't see then

Strange soundcard problem w/4.2
Hi there, I'm trying to repurpose an unused machine (athlon XP 3000+) for my young daughter to use. It's on a motherboard with a VIA KT880 chipset and VIA integrated soundcard (VIA 8237). The card seems to be detected during boot time and shows up in the system log, but when I try to actually use the sound card within Gnome, there's no sound. The device is detected, but

SoundBlaster Live
Folks, I last saw this problem in a thread in this newsgroup a couple of years ago, but there was no solution then. It was then stated that you couldn't get a SoundBlaster Live sound card to work under Wine because Windows 'ran' everything through the emu10k1.vxd file and Wine did not support vxd files. Is this still the case? Has anyone found a workaround yet? Pete

CPU spikes with wcfxs loaded
I need to reopen this discussion because it's impossible to run spandsp (and VoIP) under these circumstances. With zaptel unloaded, I see the following "vmstat 1" output: no swapping, an occasional disk output, +/- 1003 interrupts/sec., less than 10 context switches/sec., CPU idle 100%. A very quiet system. I load modules zaptel and wcfxo, and the system utilization stays the

stream sounds like poo for no apparent reason
here at wkdu.org our minds are blown trying to figure out what our problem is, we are using a dell optiplex gx1 with a soundblaster live card. we are getting a nasty hum on the line in. the thing is we plug a cd player directly into the soundcard the hum goes away and when we plug the line in into anything else there is no hum, so the question i ask where is the hum coming from? we are

Getting lowest latency sound?
I have been trying to get lowest-latency sound (with highest fidelity) to use with Dragon NaturallySpeaking. I have Jaunty and the latest RT kernel, which I know has problems for many applications but works fine to run DNS. (It will not, however, install the program nor train it.) I set up real-time audio access as follows: sudo su -c 'echo @audio - rtprio 99 >>

SoundBlaster 16 removal impending
(Reply directly, as I''m not subscribed here.) As you may have seen, ARC recently approved my case to remove the ancient sbpro driver Solaris. I''m intent on doing that, because it really helps with our OSS integration effort, which I''m now leading. The problem is, will this impact qemu? I''m not sure of the answer. I *think* qemu emulates an older ESS1370

libao driver
I am trying to install mpg321 on another box. But there is no default libao driver on that sysytem, it has a soundblaster card, supported by the kernel directly. Never used OSS or ALSA on that system, so I wonder is it possible to do without OSS or ALSA . The libao documentation does not talk about kernel drivers, so I wonder how to get it work. Any ideas? Sound Problems
I have a Creative Audigy SE configured whit the module CA106 The problem is to make the mixer work. It seems that Wine looks for PCM Playback Volume that is common to many cards, but not mine. My card channels for Playback are IEC958, IEC958 C, IEC958 F, IEC958 R, Analog C, Analog F, Analog R and Analog S. What am I missing? Thanks.

I don't know the answer, but here are suggestions to the limit of my knowledge: 1) Is your sound going in via Line In, or Mic In? 2) Do you get the noise when recording, using ANY software (just record a wav file with something)? If so, at least you know it's not a software issue. I don't know what else to suggest, but I think this information would help you (or anyone who tries to

I had a similar problem... I updated our radio server to a new box and a SB Live and ran into all sorts of audio problems. I took the sound card (es1371) from the old box and swapped out the SB Live and the problems went away. I think the problem is with fbsd's sb live driver. <p>> -----Original Message----- > From: jim [mailto:bikepunx@impop.bellatlantic.net] > Sent: Thursday,

ATA devices
Does anyone know of a 24 port ATA device that could be installed in a phone closet? Like a channel bank, but, instead of multiplexing onto a T-1 circuit, it would convert to SIP/RTP on a LAN connection. Thanks, -- Michael Welter Introspect Telephony Corp. getting a Creative Soundblaster card to work
I just got a Creative Soundblaster X-fi Xtreme Audio card for my notebook. The card is recognized automatically in Ubuntu, and in Preferences/Sound I set the default to ALC861VD Analog, which is the mixer. But the option doesn't come up under winecfg. And my application (Dragon NaturallySpeaking) doesn't see it. Any suggestions?
