New here...
I am trying to get an initial setup up and going which I assume is a very common question here. My basic questions are the following: Can I get Asterisk up and going without voice cards using it with SoftPhones internally as a proof of concept. (just calling extensions and leaving voice mail) Is there a jump start config that would accomplish this? What is the recommended SoftPhone that is

Fedora Core 2 softphone
Hello all, I am in the process of converting our company over to * to replace our ancient executone system. As part of the testing process my boss wants us to all run softphones on our desktops until he gets the phones ordered. Quite a few of us run fedora core 2, and I haven't had any luck getting a soft phone to work. Kphone works the best out of all I have tried but I get no sound out of

Connections, but no voice paths except by console
I have a software-only PBX set up. I can register various softphones and they will call each other -- but I've never succeeded in getting any voice routed from any of the softphones. Only the console will transmit audio. I am writing to ask if I have missed some obvious step in configuring the system. Conditions: (1) Softphones running on the same machine as the PBX: Only Kphone seems

SIP/IAX softphones for use in call centre environments
I've been working my way through the softphones listed on voip-info over the last few weeks and I've not really found anything to fit the bill. Has anyone had more luck? The environment is a small call centre of 5 users. Operators often need to be able to transfer calls to other operators with different specialties, so the softphone needs to be easy to use and quick to transfer calls.

Enhanced Messaging and softphones
Hello, I've just read in [1] about SIP MESSAGE addition to both chan_pjsip and ConfBridge. It seems very interesting addition as it brings the capability to mix voice, video and text in conferencing. On an other hand, there are some softphones (Zoiper, Bria, ...) that tout voice, video and chat capability. Though Enhanced Messaging solution described in [1] seems more attractive to me in the

"403 Forbidden" between two softphones on same Asterisk
Hi, I have two softphones connected to an Asterisk "stable". I have two extensions, say 1000 and 2000. When 1000 calls 2000, the call cannot be completed; the softphone (either Diax97a , SJphone, Firefly 1.8) on extension 2000 will ring, but as soon as the call is picked up, extension 2000 will hang up the call. The softphone on 1000 (SIP, SJphone, e.g.) will give a "403

IAX2 softphones keep ringing....
Running AsteriskNow, with FreePBX front end. Have two users who use softphones on notebooks in the field. Problem is that if the softphone receives a call, but the user is not available to pick it up, Asterisk will send the call to voice mail as normal, but the softphone will continue to ring...... I've tested the Virbiage and x-Lite softphones, same issue. Is there an IAX setting in

Vista compatibilty in SIP softphones
Greetings list, I've noticed over the last couple of weeks that, unsurprisingly, nearly every new PC seems to be coming with Vista these days. I expect it'll only be a matter of time for all of us before clients start needing Vista-compatible softphones (if it's not already happened). So, what's the story with Vista compatibility amongst the softphones currently out there?

same extension on softphones and hardphones
Sorry if you see this message repeated twice. I would like to set up hard phones and softphones with the same extension so that when anybody in the company dials an extension, each user's hardphone and softphone will ring at the same time. I've tried setting this up before, but I noticed that the last sip device to register with the same extension is the only one that rings when the

iax softphones - not reconnecting
Hi together, I try to find a softphone (freeware) solution for Windows 32, that works without problems ... Right now I use iaxcomm wich was best, of the ones I tried. But I have one problem with it. When I turn on qualify, it will not connect to the asterisk. This is also documented and normal behaveor. But if I turn of qualify, iaxcomm does not reconnect to the server, when the server got

Softphone for Linux recommendation
Can anyone _recommend_ a downloadable OSS softphone that _works_ under Linux and is compatible with Asterisk. So far I have tried kphone and linphone and had problems with both, and I am still waiting to hear back from the X-Lite beta folks. -- Howard. ONLamp.com has finally published part 2 of my Rails article! You can find it here: http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2005/03/03/rails.html It would be really nice if we could get this slash dotted again before the weekend. >From what I understand, you''re more likely to get accepted when multiple people submit something. [Softphones] ZoIPer vs. XLite?
Hello I need to hook up someone's remote PC onto our Asterisk server over the Net. There are firewalls on each side, so I figured it's time to give IAX a try, and see if it's less of a pain to use than SIP. And since IAX hardphones are pretty are, I guess I'll go softphone. Apparently, the two most well-known IAX and SIP clients for Windows are ZoIPer and X-Lite, respectively.

SIP Softphones and Citrix ?
Anyone aware of any SIP softphones that might virtualize well with Citrix presentation server? I suspect I know the answer already as I have been researching softphones that work with Cisco CallManager that can be virtualized if you will with Citrix and have come to learn that its not something that seems to be doable at this time. I have to assume that the issues affecting the virtualization of

Should I uninstall everything to install InstantRails?
Please help me I am brand new to this. I have been following this tutorial from OnLamp http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2005/01/20/rails.html which tells you how to install ruby, rails and mySQL and get going. Doing this tutorial convinced me RoR was the way to go for me. So I got hold of this e-book: Agile Web Development with Rails - The Pragmatic Programmers The book tells me to install

how to set the busy signal usign softphones
Hi to all. I'm using Asterisk 1.4 with Sjphone as softphone. My problem is that when a SIP user is busy, he still receive calls from asterisk. I've tried to setup the call-limit preference to 1, but with this kind of configuration the user can't transfer calls, as the system block the 2nd call generated to do the transfer. I've also tried to set the user as friend, limitonpeers
