Hello, I'm trying to find out if Asterisk will support plain G729 or G729b. I've read all over that it supports G729, but I can't seem to find any explicit remarks regarding the specific versions of the codec Asterisk will support. I noticed that Digium allows Asterisk users to register and download G729a, but refers to it as G729 on it's pages. I also noticed that on

I have multiple voiceage g729 licenses installed on a RH9 box, and have a remote C7960 configured to use it (low bandwidth). In calls like: Remote C7960 -> g729 -> asterisk -> g711 -> C7960 the audio is oftentimes rather choppy. Changing the remote 7960 to use g711 seems to eliminate/reduce the choppyness. Any ideas on what might be behind this?

Hi there, im having some problems with my asterisk box, it seems codec is the principal cause of it. Reading in some forums i found that i can get the new codec_g729 from ftp://ftp.digium.com/pub/telephony/asterisk/g729/new_codec_binary/codec_g729b.so i checked it but the directory new_codec_binary doesnt exist. My boss is insisting we support fax, and I keep telling him that Fax over IP is very unreliable and not recommended and his immediate come-back is "Vonage does it." and it's very hard to figure out how. I don't think Vonage does T.38, the Linksys/Sipura units they're using doesn't support T.38 to my knowledge. That means they have to be using G.711Ulaw to send faxes.

Hi, I'm looking for a good codec to use on a personal VoIP setup. It is strictly for my personal use, I'll never resell it, make money or it, or whatever. It seems a free personal-use G729 codec is available as a WIN32 library. I find it puzzling that at the same time one has to pay license fees to use it under Linux, even non-commercially. I was wondering -- am I missing something?

Has anyone out there successfully set up their * box to terminate their VONAGE calls? I (and I am sure lots of others) would love to hear how you did it. I'd like to be able to get rid of the extra hardware I have hanging around here and use the ASTERISK machine to handle the SIP termination instead of needing to have a Linksys modem (w/phone) and an additional X100P card. I just installed Asterisk on my server and I have Vonage softphone. I need my Asterisk server to receive calls through the Vonage Softphone DID and make outgoing calls through the Vonage ATA using an X100p to connect to it.
