Redhat vs Mandrake.
My thoughts on this after reading Steven's very politically worded reply is that IMO your best bet would be to go with RedHat, I am not going to go into details about the if's, when's, why's, and but's.. I am running Asterisk quite well on RedHat 9 and if you like I have created an install guide for setting up an Asterisk box on RedHat 9 which I can send to you if you are

Processor
Hi, I am interested in the thoughts of the people who know the architecture of Asterisk quite well.. What I am interested in is the performace difference of Celeron vs P4 vs Xeon.. I know Intel marketing says that servers should be Xeon, Workstations should be P4 and desktops should be Celeron and they are priced to the specific target market.. I am on a tight budget and so I am looking for the

Setting up MySQL CDR??
Hi, I am running Redhat, I loaded the mysql and mysql-devel RPM's and then recompiled *.. I thought it would be that simple but it looks like I have missed something becasue it doesn't look like the module has been complied.. What did I leave out? -- ______________________________________________ http://www.linuxmail.org/ Now with e-mail forwarding for only US$5.95/yr Powered by

ATT: marrandy - Re: Grandstream Budgettone 102
[Posted here becasue your mail server is rejecting my direct reply to you.] Hi Martin, AFAIK SIP can run on both UDP and TCP but I have only seen it used over UDP.. :) To setup the GS phones you need to open up the following ports (If its still set at the defaults)... UDP/5060 UDP/5004 UDP/5005 UDP/5006 UDP/5007 I have not tested the GS phone through a firewall yet but this config should

RE:mandrake linux install of zaptel
Extreme N00b, I am getting the error message "a target does not exist" when running the make install inside the zap directory, probably pretty common, possibly a package I didn't install, just need some insight on it. The same occurs with the libpri and asterisk. -----Original Message----- From: asterisk-users-bounces@lists.digium.com

Re: Adding an app (Steven Critchfield)
Thanks for the help. I was able to get my application to load with Asterisk, now I just need to get it to work. After reading your comment, I don't know that I fully understand what's going on as far as the channels and extensions. Are you saying that the MWI is tied to the channel? If that is the case, then for my SIP phones, would the channel be (SIP/XXXX)? If it should be, then

SNOM 100 vs SNOM 200??
Hi, I have more or less decided to do with the SNOM phones for the next stage of testing with Asterisk becasue they seem to be the best value for money and have support for the GSM codec and easy upgrades.. But now I have to decied wheather to get the 100 or 200 and if its the 200 then I need to have some justification for the extra cost.. Can someone who knows these 2 phones tell me what the

Switch issues with non-dedicated comms.. (My experience)
Hi, NOTE: This mail is sent for general information based on my experience to the Asterisk community not as an attack on Asterisk which I think is an amazing system.. Some of you may have seen my posting a few days ago where I was having problems with using the "switch" command in my dialplan.. It was suggested to put the switch command into its own [context] and then to include it

How could I install the asterisk with embede d system?
Just change the install prefix directory in asterisk makefile to something like /usr/local/asterisk, and then you will see all the files needed for asterisk to run. > -----Original Message----- > From: Steven Critchfield [mailto:critch at basesys.com] > Sent: Saturday, 1 March 2003 22:03 > To: asterisk-users at lists.digium.com > Subject: Re: [Asterisk-Users] How could I install

RE: +AFs-Asterisk-Users+AF0- Multi-line, multi-registration phones
Okay, so like this? PHONE1+AD0-SIP/2000 PHONE2+AD0-SIP/3000 PHONE3+AD0-SIP/4000 ALL+AD0AJAB7-PHONE1+AH0AJgAkAHs-PHONE2+AH0AJgAkAHs-PHONE3+AH0- Then you would have Exten +AD0APg- s,1,Dial(+ACQAew-ALL+AH0-,20) Is that right? I have read about the Macros but don't understand their use. Could someone provide an example? Sorry about the newby questions... This will hopefully be my

Hi http://rails-bestpractices.com added a new feature, asking for best practices, it allows users to ask for a best practice about any rails related work, such as "How to detect N+1 queries?" and "How to upload a large file with progress bar?". Then everyone can post your answer with your own best practice solution to the questions. Check it

Feedback request: AGI GET DATA change termination digits
Hi, this is my 1.st response to this list, i hope this will work. I tend to agree with Steven since just allowing other termination digits probaly wont solve your upcoming the issues anyway. I use a wrapper around the 'get digit' which allows me to specify that the * digit repeats the menu but maxium 3 times and if the * star digit is used twice in sequence (without other digits inbetween

Power Over Ethernet for *any* ethernet switch(or hub); product idea
PoE, or 802.3af, uses a device detection routine to determine if the connected device needs power. The process, in greatly simplified terms, is as follows: 1. Detect link state 2. Send a pulse of a known frequency and intensity over the TX/RX pairs 3. Listen for reflection. 3a. No reflection- provide power 3b. Reflection- no power Devices that comply with 802.3af have filters designed

Dialogic channel pricing
Speaking as former Dialogic/Bayonne user who was frustrated for months with Dialogic's complexity and months of initial testing with GlobalCall only to use their many-years-old and very complex base Dialogic drivers(and eventually scrapping it all for Digium/Asterisk and being up one week later), I can tell you that Digium/Asterisk is definately the way to go. It is 1000 times easier to

OT: BRI ISDN question
I am going to try and use a passive AVM fritz BRI card for my * setup.. Here is the thing.. I need to order my BRI from BT.. The service that looks to be the one to use is what they call ISDN 2e becasue this has the option to setup hunt groups across multiple ISDN2e lines so I could add another line later to get 4 channels.. According to the BT website in order to use the hunt grouping across

Re: Applications of TDMoE "critch"
Juan, I dont see people here with "attitude" or any need to shut down this list as you suggested. Contrary to your experience, I find people to be quite helpful here. Steven's comment "Start here and then ask a real question" is definitely not arrogant IMHO. He is just trying to knock some etiquette on Luan. Besides, he did give him all the answer Luan was looking for.

OT: Grandstream power supplies..
Hi, Quick question to all the electronics gurus out there.. I unpacked my second GS phone yesterday (had it for about a month!) and set it up.. This morning the power supply is dead.. I have looked for a new one online (In the UK using Maplin let me know if you know a better place.) becasue it would probbaly take too long to get one sent from China or the US and I need to get that station
